MEDICINA FUTURA HOMOEOPATHY.
Vol 9 No 3, Jan'99

Dr A N Ramanathan, reacting to editor's article regarding Pyrogen, states that laparoscopy reveals the wide prevalence of Endometriosis. The endometrial cells grow on uterine adnexia producing ovarian cyst, scattered patches of endometriosis and finally fibrosis and adhesions from degeneration. Our Masters obtained remarkable results from Pyrogen but modern medicine ignores it as the remedy ranks low as a bactericide when clinically tested.

On Diabetes, Dr Ramanathan avers that Homoeopathy can effect a complete cure only when the disease is of a recent origin, and not in old standing cases. Good results recorded with Acid-phos 200, supplemented with Jambul tincture.
Tip: Lac-def, Graphites and Thyroid help many aches and pains of diabetes.

Clinical Cases Section: Dr Lakshminarayanan has presented with pre and post photos, the case of a spastic child treated with Lathyrus-sat, Tuber- koch, Abrot, Kali-iod, Medh, Cicuta and Nat-sul for head injury etc. The child which sat on her haunches with legs tucked under could now stand unsupported and could support herself on her arms when put on all fours. Further feedback poor because the child and her parents reside in USA.

Case 2 - A case of carbuncle in a diabetic male with, cured with Pyrogen followed by Tarentula-cub, Silicea, Anthracinum, Sulphuric-acid etc; Through the 3 month treatment the patient was comfortable.

Case 3 - of varicose ulcer, cerebral palsy, vertigo cured with Theridion.

Case 4 - retinal haemorrhage by Veratrum-viride.
Tip: Dr LN recently read that Acetic-acid can be a leading remedy for bad effects of anaesthesia; previously he used Nitrous-oxide, Aether, and Chloroform for problem after surgery.

Case 5 - 7 years old child, hearing loss after surgery for VSD at one month after birth. Dr LN gave Acetic-acid 200 - 6 doses. Other medicines given were Nitrous-oxide, Rubella, Morbilinum etc over a period of 2 years. The child's hearing improved dramatically.
Tip: Strophanthus for chronic urticaria. Case of recurrent urticaria where this was the main remedy (See Boericke's MM under skin-urticaria, especially more chronic forms)

Two cases of IHD treated effectively with Carbo-veg by Dr G Saraswathi reconfirms our faith in Homoeopathy in emergency conditions. Another case of head injury of a 20-year-old male who developed Rt sided palsy and fractures in the skull. Starting with Arnica 1M 3 doses at one hourly intervals, he was prescribed Ledum, Hypericum and Arnica in 1 M potency along with usual Nat-sulph and after 2 days the swaying gait improved and vertigo was less. During next week the above medicines were repeated and there was slow and steady progress. Later Causticum corrected the deviation of mouth and in one month the patient was well except for the headache. (BHJ also discusses use of ammonium compounds for head injury like Nat-sulph )

The clinical case section is very interesting as here, the Editor, Dr D Lakshminarayanan shares his vast clinical experience. All cases reported are from his practice. (1) He describes the allergic reaction of a Texan mechanic tending to petrol-operated machines: his skin turns yellow and then cracks. Later it peels off leaving a raw area & exposing the tendons. He had to give up his job. His remedy Petroleum was selected from the group of Petroleum, Kreos, Carbolic acid and Bovista, which have the power of antidoting hydrocarbon agent like petrol. Given Petroleum 30 and advised to wear cotton gloves and use gram flour for cleaning the skin. Remarkable improvement - the top layers of the skin started growing and hands were well.

Tip: A case of diplopia AF allopathic drugs for malarial fever. Also suffered from vertigo, pain and noises in the ear. Sepia cured him. Dr Kent writes in his lectures "In old cases of suppressed malaria, Sepia brings back the chill but its most useful sphere is after a bad selection of Homoeopathic remedies confuses the case."

In his repertory under Fever - Intermittent-spoilt Dr Kent lists Sepia in capital letters (p1288). Dr L says that even in a case of jaundice after badly treated malaria, Sepia helped the case.

In an earlier issue, Dr L had written about the efficacy of Strophanthus in urticaria. In this issue he cites additional 5 cases where Strophanthus cured urticaria.

Tip: In his experience, Ignatia, Natrum-mur and Sepia represent the most important remedies that Homoeopathy offers in ameliorating, relieving and curing manic depression swiftly. The double salt of Aurum and Natrum-mur is more effective than Natrum-mur alone.

Tip: Where the symptoms originate in shock, brooding, unpleasant memories, weeping, silent hilarity, irritability and in general are paradoxical or erratic, Ignatia is to be considered first. Natrum-mur / Aurum-mur-nat follow as strong complementary where the introverted characteristic manifests with anger and irritability or resenting sympathy, inability to weep even with grief shows up. Sepia finishes the case where the element of hatred/ alienation / hostility is detected. He illustrates this point with two cases - one of manic depression and another of an angry woman.

The issue concludes the seminar paper given by Dr D P Rastogi on the usefulness of Boger-Boenninghausen Repertory, citing cases for which the remedy was accurately found from that repertory. It is very instructive.

  • "Nature notes" section: an extract from Dr Wm H Bates' book "Good sight without glasses": usefulness of palming for preventing eyestrain and improving the eyesight has been given. Dr Bates advises that more deeply the shade of black is imagined with eyes closed, the more easily it can be remembered when reading the letters on the test card.
  • In the news section editor Dr Lakshminarayanan laments that modern doctors, enamored of modern scientific methods of investigation, give up the basic physical examination which can be diagnostic and save expensive tests.
  • He gives the following hints:
    1. Less expensive urine analysis instead of urine culture test for UTI.
    2. throat examinations may avoid tonsillectomy.
    3. Examination of the tongue can reveal the appropriate remedy in serious cases- such as red triangular tip- Rhus-tox in typhoid and red stripe down center of a coated tongue - Veratrum-viride in pneumonia.
    4. Glandular growths in specific locations indicate similarly the relevant remedy.
    5. The colour, shape and sensitiveness to touch of an abscess: blue- Terentula-cub; black- Ars-alb/ Lach and yellow Hepar-s
    6. Pulse out of proportion to temperature- Pyrogen, etc

The editor also narrates as to how the famous late Dr N M Jaisoorya, diagnosed in a 19 yr old boy, who was very obese and shy, a case of undescended testicles and cured it with Thuja CM one dose. This simple physical diagnosis was missed even by the patient's father, a leading allopath.

  • A part of an address by Dr Vijai Kumar on "sleep, snoring and life" which is very erudite and informative. one fourth of population above the age of 30 suffer from sleep related breathing disorders, which affect their productive life during daytime. They may develop daytime sleepiness with disastrous consequences.
  • Dr Lakshminarayanan exhorts Homoeopaths to explore the scope of Homoeopathy to treat these disorders.

Cases: a 65-year-old advocate was suffering for years with vertigo with a tendency to fall. Allopathic treatment did not give complete improvement. Recently also developed frequent urination before an important litigation. Conium did not have any effect. Opium -200- 3 doses selected on the basis of fear of approaching vehicles along with Gelsemium for anticipatory anxiety was prescribed. No change; then Opium CM one dose and Vanadium 6 to be taken after the dose of Opium were given. The vertigo > over a 2 month period and the cervical pain which emerged after taking Opium was also less. He was still not fully cured as he had vertigo when looking down from a height.

Tip: Pheytoin (Eptoin- Boots) is found useful as an external dressing for rapid healing of ulcers left by drained abscesses.

Royal E Haye's unusual case dealing with cure in b irds and fishes followed by a discussion makes interesting reading. Dr S C Mishra presents a Chyluria case.

MEDICINA FUTURA HOMOEOPATHY.
April 2000, Vol 10 No 4

This journal completes 10 years of existence, only due to the indefatigable efforts of a single individual- its editor Dr Lakshminarayanan. In his editorial he laments that very few Homoeopaths have done any experiments as the founder of the system Dr Hahnemann did to strengthen the system.

The editor starts a new section cerebral Haemorrhage- coma in which he discusses a case of an allopathic doctor who was treated with Opium and Arnica, Bryonia and Natrum-mur during such episodes. In September 1999, now aged 57 years, he had a sudden sinking feeling and the usual intake of glucose for such attacks did not have any effect. He then had a massive haemorrhage and was in a coma for 2 weeks with poor prognosis. He was put on Arnica 1M in water and the next day he opened his eyes. He was then administered Opium 1M 12 hourly. After a week there were transient movement of limbs on the left side and oral sounds uttered. The potency was increased successively to 10M and then to 50M when the earlier potency did not show any further response. At the end of second week he could he could recognize people. His right side remained paralyzed as also his rectum and bladder. Dr Lakshminarayanan then administered Plumbum 200 7 nights. His right lower extremity came under control while his Rt arm was still paralysed. The editor suggests that homoeopaths should read the write-up on Opium and Plumbum in the Manual of Homoeopathic Therapeutics by Stoneham and Neat by. An interesting case of jaundice in a 2 month old baby with a congenital defect of not having the bile duct, with poor prognosis, was successfully treated with Cal-carb and Chel. There are two articles on treating vertigo, one with Salicyclic-acid and Natrum-mur. In the latter case, the patient had an urge to urinate with attack of vertigo. This remedy is not found in the repertory against that rubric but the patient was cured with Natrum-mur.

It is however distressing to read a sarcastic review on the report of the seminar "Similimum" organized by Dr Jawahar Shah. Dr Lakshminarayanan writes that some professional writer might have written the report "though signed by Jawahar Shah whose language is well-known to the cognoscente" The Editor could have avoided these remarks. He adds "this will probably be the only time valuable space in this journal will be utilized for reporting seminars and today's exception is because the write-up was so titillating!" It is unfortunate that the editor should condemn in wholesale fashion the utility of seminars, which are the universally accepted method of disseminating experience and exchange of ideas.
