HOMOEOPATHY TODAY
Vol.23 No 4 April 2003
This issue is devoted to ‘Autism epidemic; comes as NJH
completes the Mercury issue and first article that catches our attention is ‘Land
of the free’ by Dr Dooley. In this article he talks of litigation filed
against by parents of autistic children. It contends that the use of a mercury
preservative (thimerosol) in vaccines far exceeded the levels of mercury allowed
by the environmental protection agency and caused damage in the children’s
developing nervous systems resulting in autism. He also mentions the power,
politic and economic interests of the ruling party as well as the pharmaceutical
giants. Homoeopathy is the correct alternative to regain confidence in the body’s
ability to heal itself and our ability to aid that process.
Judyth Reichenberg: In her article ‘epidemic of autism’ antes Autism
falls under pervasive Developmental Disorders and affects children in many ways.
Extreme cases can be diagnosed before the age of one but those with Asperger’s
Disorders may be diagnosed by the time a child enters school. mmr vaccine could
be the culprit in many cases. In her practice, she has treated some children of
autism who were perfectly healthy prior to mmr vaccine and autistic immediately
afterwards. Autistic children experience the world differently, they have more
interest in trains, fans, cyclone than little Paul from next door. They may
exhibit repetitive, peculiar habits. They are inarticulate or ask the same
question again and again. May be gifted in one particular area or may have a
wide range of behavioral problem. Homoeopathy helps depending on where the child
falls on the autistic spectrum. There is more success with Asperger’s disorder
where children may be more articulate, verbal and socially interactive. The
approach is individualization.
Robert Ulman: His case ‘beautiful mind’ is really a beautiful case of an
11 yr old autistic child. Sam, who at age five could calculate cube roots but
never made eye contact at his mother. He banged his head hundred times a day and
did not speak till age three. He was a maths genius with difficulty in relating
to children and adults. The rubrics taken were : a) conscientious about trifles
b) counting continually c) Mathematics calculating apt for d) Monomania e) Noise
- inclined to make a f) Reserved g) retarded children h) Rigidity i) talk,
slow learning to and j) vaccination after. Silicea was the medicine that
gave amazing, results with overall improvement.
Other articles: Cases of add, skating accident : 3 medicines to know etc. The
editorial voices a universal feeling that presenting Homoeopathy to the world is
very important and good introductory talks can be efficient tools. |

Vol 23, May 2003
This issue is devoted to senior citizens. Miranda Castro
lists 10 juvenile remedies for senior, viz Alumina-dry and slow; Ambra-gr
eratic and embarrassed. Arsenic- anxious, fussy, restless. Baryta childish,
petty; Carbo-veg: sluggish and gassy . Conium- slow, dizzy
Ignatia - loss of grief. Lyco- irritable,
anxious, gassy. Phos-acid: weakness, apathy Rhus-tox: stiff, achy.
Valeria Wyckoff’s article stresses the need for correct
nutrition, minimizing drugs and exercises. Sublingual tar of vit B12 in daily
dosage can help problems like bone spurs, nerve pains and numbness of hands and
feet. People taking aspirin daily should supplement with folic acid, Vit C and
Zinc because aspirin therapy increases the loss of folic acid, vit C and Zinc.
Valeria wycoff in ‘safe passage’ beautifully and
sensitively desvribes-how ‘Ars Alb’ helped her 95 yrs old grandmother pass
away calmly and eased the suffering of stroke.
FAQ section has an interesting answer to ‘will my health insurance cover
the cost of Rx ? The health insurance cover the cost but many insures are
investigating Hom for its cost effective potential. |
HOMOEOPATHY TODAY
Vol 23 Oct 2003
After the last two issues for women, this issue comes for men-with
a father’s guide to kid care, Homoeopathy for prostate and research on male
infertility.
Cindy Papse gives tips to protect prostate. She suggests:
Reduce fat in diet, daily use of flax oil, multi vitamins and carotene
supplements, include tomatoes in diet-cooked tomatoes contain Lycopene. Vit C
& E are also useful. Also consume Soy proteins, green tea and 200 microgram
of Selenium. The remedies for acute/chronic prostates are Agnus, Apis,
Baryta, Chimaphila, Conium, Copiva, Digitalis, Lyco, Medorrhinum, Nit-acid,
Pareira-brava, Pulsatilla, Sabal-serr, Sepia, Staphysagria, Sulphur and Thuja.
Dr Julian suggests Homoeopathy should be the first choice of treatment. It is
important to have a good diagnosis but prostate cancer is often referred to as
the Ca you die with rather then the Ca you die of, because it is very slow
growing and one can live with if for a good number of years.
A research on male infertility conducted by Heidelberg
University in Germany showed encouraging results with constitutional
Homoeopathic remedies. This has been extensively given in Dr Dana Ulman’s
article excerpted from the website www.homeopathic.com
Thomas Kunzel narrates a case of 24 years old man who had
persistent urethral discharge, worse in the morning. No h/o STD. He had high
libido, frequent erections and used marijuana daily. Based on the rubrics:
sexual desire excessive. Bladder discharge, gleety, painless, Bladder,
Urethritis, discharge white, purulent - Cann-sativa 30 twice daily with
Uva-Ursi and Kava-kave was prescribed and the response was seen
within 24 hours. Previous antibiotics had not helped him at all.
In another case report, Andrew Soul writes about a two-years
toddler who was scheduled for surgery for fistula-in-ano. Silicea 6x for
one weak cleared the fistula and the paediatrician cancelled the appointment for
surgery. |

Vol 23, Nov 2003
This issue is a Treasure trove for the teens. It discusses
everything that the teenagers go through and gives tips on raising healthy
teens.
Army Rothenberg writes about noticing teenage behaviour, their
likes, dislikes, choice of music, and cautions physician to maintain a balance
between supporting the parents and maintaining confidentiality of the interview.
Pettorah Olenev discusses food-habits of teens and how Phosphorus
helped her treat a case of fever and tonsillitis. She had craving for cold
drinks.... esp. cranberry and apple juice.
Donna Power in ‘watch warts disappear’ gives a case where the teenage
girl spoke about everything, but warts was the last thing, she mentioned
because, as she writes warts are supposed to belong on the end of a witch’s
nose or an ugly toad that no one wants to kiss. The key features were she was a
compassionate child, had fear of being alone, had feeling of not voiding urine
completely and liked gloomy weather. The rubrics were fear, happen something
with family to or to him, fear-dark, fear alone, night worries full of relatives
about and sympathetic compassionate children in. Causticum was the
remedy. After the first dose of 30 C, she had few more warts, more sweaty hands,
but her fears improved and she was much calmer. After the 2nd
prescription of Causticum 12C for three days, there was overall
improvement and all the warts disappeared.
Two articles by Mary Aspinwall are examples of art of writing. She writes
‘Teenage clients want a magic wand waved over their acne, period pains or exam
nerves. The flies in the ointment of teenage paradise are the grown ups. Myself
stands on the very brink of turning into a fly in the ointment. As she suggests,
all life stages (different age groups) come with their default setting.
Teenagers want to be free because that is their default setting. To live
harmoniously with people with radically different default setting from our own
is always challenging. She nostalgically narrates her own teenage years of
unstoppable lust for life and feels that teenagers know how to live with passion
,but the question is, do we know how to let them? And if we don’t, then we
should not be surprised when our teenagers become "Economical with the
truth".
Her two cases; first of a mother who used herself as a guinea pig before
starting her daughter’s treatment justifying the Chinese saying if the child
is sick then treat the mother. The mother in this case was terrified after her
car was trapped during the floods. She also had fear of lightening and
thunderstorm. She was helped with Phosphorus while her daughter who had
low self esteem and ovarian cyst, removed surgically, had pain in the other
ovary was cured with Lac-can.
Case 2: high powered peas in a pod: she describes the father and son who
had the same drive to be the best in everything they did. Son wanted the same
school and college as the father "because they are the best". Son had
infectious mononucleosis. They both viewed the illness as disaster. This and
over ambition led her to give him Aurum-met which helped ,but the moment
he recovered; he was pushed hard to succeed and had relapse.
In an interesting case titled ‘terrible teens’, Judyth Ulman
describes 17 yrs old Randi who was adopted when two days old; she was a ‘tough
cookie’ who had adHd and was at loggerheads with her mother. She missed
classes and tested positive for Marijuana. She had low self esteem, chose wrong
friends, spoke lies and stole money. She had stringy bleeding with clots from
right nostril. She said ‘I like snakes and even hold them in class, but hate
spiders’. She felt she was being treated like a pig and had a brown cakey area
on her chest. The rubrics were: dreams animals, of spiders, loquacity,
epistaxis, aversion to family members, anger, quarrelsome, company desire for
and concentration difficult Crotalus-horridus was the remedy where
snakes, spiders and pigs fit in and match with the physical complaints. A single
dose in 200 C and six weeks later, she was more cheerful with parents and
suddenly started reading. There was one relapse after two months and two doses
-of 200 C and 1 M each were enough to set her right. On researching Crotalus
further, the author found that rattlers have brown pigmented patches, they are
most social, pigs are their most natural enemies because they are immune to
their poison because of their thick skin and Dr Sankaran’s proving mentions
‘Dreams of big, hairy spiders, feeling of rejected and desire of fight. Also
the repertory rubric- sensitive to reading lists Crotalus. Thus the case
gives us an in-depth understanding of the remedy.
Ellen Goldman writes a case of a boy who wore two different shoes because of
ingrown toe nails. Three surgeries had not helped him. Single dose of Calc-sulph
200 C was followed by pustular discharge and a month later he could wear normal
shoes.
Also discussed is chronic fatigue, Hom in emergency and alone medicines.

Main articles in this issue are on stress. Rest includes insomnia and facts about flue vaccine.
Cindi Papso: She deals with stress of a chronic illness - Crohn's disease in 32 years old David who was a happy go lucky person. The disease hit him 10 yrs ago; he had to plan his life activities around the? nearest. His case was repertorised on the symptoms of Rectum- open anus and Hemorrhage tendency. Phosphorus was his remedy. Phos 30 C every 3-4 weeks cured him within nine months. Later David had hamstring injury for which he wanted Hom Rx but the author instead of interfering with the action of the medicine, resorted to FEldenkrius method. This is a popular method in Germany. It uses movement and its awareness, to change behavioural pattern. It is assumed that when we organize ourselves better physically, we would have more space available in the brain for creative and intellectual activities. It helps in reducing tension and stress.
Stephen Messer: He treated Judy who was a nervous wreck due to a series of events like death, divorce, accidents and loss of job. She was completely terrorized and looked horrible. Phosphoric-acid helped a bit but she was still consumed with self doubts and sheer terror- felt she may never recover, and may die. Many times she repeated 'my blood runs cold'. Aconite covers the rubric 'Generalities, cold feeling in the blood vessels'. This feeling with fear of death helped to prescribe Aconite in 10M potency and on the very next day she was 50% better and following day had no need to see the therapist.
Mary Aspinwal: In her article 'To job or not to job' discusses pros and cons of flue vaccine. Survey shows that the vaccine is not effective. The vaccine sells since flue is scary. No flue vaccine contains the mutated Fujian strain that is causing severe flue. She warns: Do not fall for wrong advice for vaccinating children under 2 yrs and adults above 50. Homoeopathy is very effective. She also gives a case of post vaccination blues where a woman of 35 yrs developed severe chest pain, fear of cancer and anxiety. She also had mouth ulcers, post nasal drip and was chilly. Silicea helped her to recover. |
