HOMOEOPATHIC LINKS
1/2001

This issue is devoted to new remedies with cases: Chocolate, Hydrogen, Lac-caprinum Lac- equinum and Tungsten.

An interesting case of Chocolate: A male patient complained of tension, sense of hurriedness; felt nothing was being done fast enough. He complained of nasal obstruction, pain in back and neck, cramps calves and inter-coastal neuralgia. He had a strong sense of duty and wanted to be precise and correct in his work- a perfectionist. Aversion to children and fond of chocolate and likes to take chocolate with milk. Irritable when disturbed. He felt good when sitting in the sun. Various remedies did not act. Based on his preference for sunlight and chocolate, he was prescribed Chocolate in potencies, which cured him.

Mary Aspinwall of Ireland discusses 3 cases of Hydrogen prescribed for the mother, daughter and niece! Mother and daughter had similar back pains and problems with pregnancy.

SOME RUBRICS OF HYDROGEN:
Mind, awareness heightened.
Mind, Conflict between higher consciousness and worldly existence.
Del God, presence of God that he is in. Mind Love, overflowing, for humanity.

On the flip side: loss of oneness, separation from the world, paradise lost and fall from grace.

Joan Scott Lowe, USA presents 2 cases of Lac- caprinum (goat's milk). A 46 year old lawyer - depression, mood swings and fear of heart attack. Wakes up frightened, helpless and trapped. For years he could not stand anyone to be near his face (Goats are afraid of being killed by wolf by the neck); fear of sharp and pointed objects. Highly sexed, he chased women but was bored with marriage; he was a procrastinating type. He was addicted to tobacco and also suffered from ADD. Lac-caprinum 1M- improved mentally, emotionally and physically; it was repeated after 3 months and the patient stopped taking anti-depressant tablets. Follow-up for 2 years during which the remedy had not to be repeated. He became tobacco free and hypo-hyper energy crises did not arise and his hyper sexuality decreased considerably.

The other case: A 10-y-old boy, was brought for ADD and behavioural problems. This boy also exhibited some common features of the other case ie lot of energy, fun loving and capricious nature, problems of ADD, lack of mental focus, easily distracted mind and deep-seated fears of sharp and pointed objects such as needles and knives and. fear of falling. He was argumentative and obstinate. A perfectionist. Based on the family history of cancer, diabetes and respiratory problems, the boy was initially prescribed Carcinocin. Initial good improvement in behaviour but later reverted to old self even after repetition of the second dose. Taking note of his animal magnetism and manner of butting heads with other boys (goats fight like that) and others similar to the earlier case, he was prescribed Lac-caprinum 1M and the boy improved. Follow up over two years during which it had to be repeated when symptoms relapsed but majority of complaints were resolved in one year in both the cases.

A case of a 57-year-old lady, with severe hot flushes- 20 per day; treated with potentised Tungsten. Also complained of constipation, loss of smell and constriction in throat. Lachesis was prescribed which did not help her much. She said that she worked hard to prove herself especially to her father, who felt that girls need not study. Here, the main theme: desire to prove and perform indicates a metal. The heavier the metal the heavier the need to perform. Frank Beijering says that he chose Tungsten based on correspondence between the thermal property of the metal with intensity of the hot flushes of the patient. After a dose of IM, the hot flushes diminished rapidly in 3 weeks; hair loss and constipation improved. She reported severe migraine attacks after 10 weeks and the remedy was repeated in LM 18 potency twice a week. She improved well under it but developed a fascination about anything connected with fire. After nine months she did not have any hot flushes.

This issue also contains 3 cases of another milk remedy- Lac-equinum (horse's milk). The three patients loved horses. They were determined and worked hard to please and serve others, not to cause disharmony in the family; fun loving. They were dependent on family and group to satisfy their desires- thus vulnerable to frustration and undermining their confidence; they felt angry and trapped in their situations.

Book reviews and review of Hompath software form the rest of the issue.

HOMOEOPATHIC LINKS
4/2001

An issue wholly contributed by French Homoeopaths. All of us know that Dr Hahnemann himself practiced in Paris.

Two good articles from the pen of Didier Grandgeorge, a leading Homoeopath of France. One is on small remedies and the other on Urtica- urens. He says that "20 years of clinical experience in the psychiatric and paediatric fields have convinced me that the origin of all physical ills is to be found somewhere in our subconscious. Words unable to be expressed, emerge in our conscious state. The word thus takes shape in the body, which becomes a theatre where symbolic plays are acted out, a painful attempt to resolve a problem present in another apparently inaccessible part of us." After doing a proving of processionary (a variety) of caterpillars, the author had an emergency case of a 9-yr old boy suffering from twisted testicle. One prover had had a sensation of twisted testicle as if castrated, though investigations later did not find anything wrong. Based on that, Grandgeorge asked whether the boy had touched any processionary caterpillars and when the answer was yes, he gave a dose of processionary Bombyx 30 and by the time the boy went to the hospital, he was free from pain and swelling!

Case: A 17-year-old boy lost one testicle due to poor treatment and later developed asthma. On that history, he was given this remedy; asthma better and his energy level increased. The doctor recommends that this remedy should be considered when there is a testicle problem. He asks "Could it be the remedy for individuals who feel psychologically castrated and have only stereotyped behaviour?" He cites a case of a boy with tight phimosis cured with Castoreum (from a substance near the sex glands next to genitals of beaver). The boy was suffering from progressive sclero-atrophic lichen of the prepuce. Peculiar symptom: the boy yawned during sleep (only remedy in KR p1258). He was to undergo a third operation for that complaint which was postponed; after six months he had an eczema on penis but the lichen problem had disappeared and his behaviour also improved.

Tip: Ornithogallum when history of pyloric stenosis and its after effects. He gives two cases of children cured after they developed other complaints following operation for pyloric-stenosis.

Tip: Hura for rheumatoid arthritis (case given in Learn a remedy section); Iodum for Myasthenia gravis; Oleum-jecoris aselli for ankylosing spondylitis (he gives two cases cured with the last mentioned remedy and in these two cases the patients had taken vitamin D preparations as supplement).

Dr Grandgeorge has a knack of getting a different type of insight into the homoeopathic remedies (Hura for fear of losing child). In his article on Urtica-urens, he highlights the mental aspect A/F death of father. He has cited 7 cases, mostly of women, where the disease was triggered by the death of the father.

Case: The sister-in-law of a colleague was dying of breast cancer; her condition was deteriorating rapidly. When Grandgeorge asked the most important event in her life, which might have been the cause of the present complaint, his colleague replied that she never recovered from her father’s death five years ago. On that symptom she was given one dose of Urtica- urens 10MK. In some weeks her health improved and she lived for few years. In another case a woman experienced difficulty in breast-feeding her child on the fourth day after birth as the child looked very yellow. The mother recalled that her father who died of liver cancer several years earlier, was all yellow few days before his death. Urtica-urens was given and the mother was able to breast-feed her child thereafter. Didier Grandgeorge says "If a father dies, the child can no longer escape the symbiotic love with his mother because it is through the father that a child can break away from his mother". Father enables a child to go forward in life to the society and live a life of his/her own.

Case: A 6-yr-old girl was brought for consultation to Dr Patricia for her misbehaviour, strongly introverted nature, daily masturbation and school problems. Initially, under Bufo-rana her habit of masturbation disappeared, but other problems persisted. On probing, sexual abuse by father was suspected, though the parents were now separated. On that history and dreams of snakes, and her habit of washing her hands frequently, Lac-can was prescribed with success.

Provings of Neptunium-mur, Lac-asinum, a case of dermatopolymyositis (a serious autoimmune and incurable disease) by Bovista, two cases of Germanium, an interview with Andre Saine and book review form the rest of the issue.

HOMOEOPATHIC LINKS
Vol 1. 2002

  1. This issue deals mainly with the homoeopathic treatment of childbirth process, efficacy of homeopathic medicines in new-born children in ICU, treatment of adverse effects of vaccination. Dafina Levanon of Israel discusses with case examples how fear of pain can influence the course of labour and how homoeopathic medicines can eradicate such pain and ensure safe delivery. The author has presented three cases; one in which the same fear which the patient experienced when she was a child was present when she was delivering her child. She said that she was afraid of birth and would like to avoid such suffering and felt helpless as one without head, hands and feet. Piper-methysticum was prescribed on the basis of her dreams of fire and fear of pain. In the second case the woman who had severe menstrual pains was afraid of experiencing similar pains during labour, which she actually experienced in her previous two deliveries and which paralysed the labour contractions; she was in her third pregnancy. She was given a dose of Cimicifuga 200 one dose and in two days she delivered normally and she did not have fears, which she had earlier.

  2. Dr Harry Va der Zee says that individual patient’s birth history shows a similar theme in the constitutional state later in life and as a consequence the same remedy picture.

(We are aware that in recent years in many cases similimum for the children was arrived on the basis of birth history and also the mother’s state during pregnancy and have been recorded literature). He presents a case of Carcinosinum to substantiate this point. Normally in all maternity wards, allopathic treatment of crises of labour, new born children is the order of the day, though homoeopathy can prevent many such crises and also deal effectively with them after they occur. Wolfgang of Germany shares his experience in such areas in a hospital where homoeopathy was allowed as a supplemental therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit. He discusses 6 short cases where the administration of appropriate homoeopathic remedies in new born children with various problems have proved curative.; he cites a case of five day old child with cardiac arrest where other usual emergency allopathic treatment was ineffective and child was saved by giving Camphora 30 and within a few seconds the child regained its colour and later recovered.; in another case of tonic-clonic convulsions in a new born child it was cured with Cuprum- met 200. (It is high time that in maternity hospitals such homeopathic treatment is permitted as a supplementary aid so as to save precious lives. Interestingly in January 2002 issue of Homoeopathy Today, an American Journal, a small write-up on the same subject is given. A case of a prematurely born baby after 24 weeks of gestation suffering from bleeding in its brain in which Arnica 30C given in dilution and in a bottle with a dropper surreptitiously saved the child; the drops were placed on the exposed skin of the child as it had tubes everywhere. Subsequently also when the same child faced other crises homoeopathic medicines in diluted form was administered under the guise " holy water" and the homoeopath or the mother’s friend disguised as a priest or nun! Appreciating the effect of such holy water in saving the child the doctor in charge allowed them to do so whenever needed little suspecting homoeopathic remedies were being given!.)

  3. There are four articles on childhood infections as after effects of vaccinations. A very good article by Tinus Smits of Netherlands highlights the fact that authorities do not normally associate the serious childhood infections noticed after compulsory vaccinations as arising from such vaccinations and often dismissed such occurrences as lacking in evidence. He has cited several instances where the use of same vaccines potentised, in cases, where it was possible to deduce that the infections and other serious childhood ailments followed shortly after the vaccinations, had restored the children to normalcy. A four year old child which received a shot of DTPol injection did not feel well, had a red throat, developed temperature next day ending in convulsions and fell unconscious. He was admitted into ICU in a coma and was treated allopathically. After his discharge he became dreamy, lacked concentration and his speech became unintelligible. On ascertaining the past history Dr Smits thought that the cause of the whole trouble was due to the DTPol shot and gave DTPol in ascending potencies, and in a month the child was normal in all respects. He suggests administration of potencies of suspected vaccines in four different scales: 30, 200, M and XM. Depending on the severity of the case and the energy level of the patient, this course is given over four days or slowed down to four weeks. Whenever there is clear reaction to a particular potency it is repeated until the reaction is over. If the reaction is severe, the dose is dissolved in water and given.
