HOMOEOPATHIC LINKS
Vol 11 3/98
This issue of Homoepathic Links is devoted to Nosodes: Lyssinum and Carcinosin.
- Dr Jonathan Hardy discusses four cases of Lyssinum. In two, there was a basic fear that something terrible will happen- an important rubric of this remedy. Both patients lived in mortal fear of their lives. In other two, the fear or delusion was- tormented he is, with fears of water, losing sanity, of high places, discontentment, striking and abusive etc are the other symptoms of this nosode. Fear during pregnancy is in second degree under Lyssinum. In one of the cases of a 4-year-old boy with driest skin and eczema was cured based on the state of the mother during pregnancy. She was very anxious and had the fear that she would lose the baby, and these were transmitted to the child and he was always whining and complaining, did not like his mother, and felt tormented. In two cases there was special craving for milk during pregnancy.
- Dr Tinus Smits presents an in-depth analysis of Carcinosin. He found that this nosode was prepared in different countries from different tumours. He has identified as many as 48 varieties of Carcinosin. Hence results are not uniform. In his view the mixture of different tumours in preparing this nosode exceeding 10-12 tumours, will make it a universal remedy. Desires and aversions are not stable enough to base one's choice on this nosode. Carcinosin has fear of cancer, of crowd, of narrow or high places fear of spiders, mice, snakes, fear of failure, fear of thunderstorms and he excludes fear of dogs and fear of dark. The cancer patient has very low self-esteem and lacks self-confidence. Excessive parental control during childhood. The usual childhood diseases appear later in life and are often very severe. He is a workaholic, feels guilty on rest without completing his work.
The Carcinosin patient has, because of his low esteem, allowed malignant cells to grow in his body without activating his immune system. To a substantial extent the immunization of children after birth and suppression of fevers with antibiotics etc further weakens the immune system. He has, therefore, a tendency to view strength as something that is outside himself, feels weak and vulnerable and seeks outside support such as surgery and chemo therapy. Thus a cancer patient becomes helpless and completely dependent on his doctor. Dr Smits adds that instead of giving hope & cheer so essential for recovery, allopaths, in order to be truthful, not give false hope and play safe, directly give bad prognosis in advanced cases. To be sent away without any hope can leave the patient devastated and hasten his death. To overcome illness, one has to reconnect with the inner force, even while surrendering completely to the physician. He has to take responsibility for his own life again making it meaningful and to achieve the purpose of his life.
Allow him to express his emotions including anger, grief and irritability. At the physical side build up a good immune system. (It is found that the immune system of optimistic people is 60% stronger). A Carcinosin patient may try to compensate for his weak ego by being brilliant or proving capability by being persevering, extremely well organized and leaving nothing to chance. Here the nosode can be helpful to resolve the ego problem. It was observed that the patients who received this nosode for over 2 years were more confident. They can take time for themselves without guilt feelings. They learn to express their feelings freely. Dr Smits illustrates these points with two cases.
5 cases of Agaricus-muscarius including one by Dr Parinaz Humranwala bring out various characteristics of the remedy: fearlessness, loquacity but does not answer questions, misreading of distances & awkwardness; inquisitive. One author points out their fascination with death, dying and after life etc. Germanium is an element recently proved by Jeremy Sherr and it will prove to be an invaluable polychrest. Three cases cured with it are given, wherein the patients felt isolated, had a sensation of and ailments from being unveiled, tendency to hide every thing, fear of what people will think of her, a feeling that something is wrong with me, self-hatred, etc.
Dr Vassilis Ghegas presents the essence of Stannum-met.
- All symptoms, mental, emotional, or physical, appear gradually in the forenoon and disappear gradually in the afternoon. No complaints at night. They weep all day and such weeping aggravates them and makes them irritable. It is one of the weakest remedies in the Materia Medica. Stannum cannot talk due to weakness. & can become desperate and suicidal. Dr Ghegas says that with a history of TB, especially when coupled with melancholy and exhaustion, one should think of this remedy.
- Weakness in chest is a big pointer to Stannum even without mental and emotional symptoms.
- Characteristic perspiration around the external throat to chest.
- Dr Ghegas differentiates it with other weakness remedies like Phos-acid, Picric-acid and Muriatic-acid. Causticum, Puls, and Tuberculinum are the complementary remedies. A case was cited by Dr Berghe where this remedy cured painful urination, with strong pain in the bladder where the characteristic guiding symptom of aggravation at noon and pain free in evening and night was present.
- Dr Jawahar Shah presents Gratiola, where the theme is overweening pride and the patient suffers from ailments from pride of others such as a daughter-in-law, or an employee under a proud employer.
- Weak will or loss of will and the patient lacks perseverance. Develops depression easily. A remedy where Nux-vom symptoms predominate in females. He presents a case of a 22 year old woman, who, though coming from a rich family, had to undergo frequent insults from her mother-in-law and she was cured of her allergic colds, acidity etc. with this remedy.
- Two cases of Rhododendron, one case of Rhus-tox, a case of Bismuth and book reviews complete the issue.

HOMOEOPATHIC LINKS
Vol 12 1/99
Ever since allopaths have been putting down Homoeopathy as a placebo effect, in the absence of a demonstrable evidence of medicine after 12c potency, constant attempts have been made to explain the basis on which the Homoeopathic dilutions and potencies act. Michael Quinn in his article, draws attention to the research done by Dr Shui-Yin-Lo on this matter. Dr Lo discovered that when a solution of a particular chemical is diluted to one billion parts of water or about a D8 or a C4 potency, the water molecules in close proximity to the chemical molecule harden into solid water or ice even at room temperature. Their shape is determined by the chemical and has a unique shape for each different chemical. If the solution is diluted further and shaken vigorously the concentration of the solid water actually increases even when none of the original chemical is present. These crystals called IE crystals have specific properties. Dr Quinn believes that these water crystals are acting as solvent based, self-replicating, solvate agents for the very chemicals from which they were prepared. He refers to records of patients having excreted large amounts of that very chemical from which the potentised Homoeopathic remedy was made, indicating that chemical toxicity is antidoted by the potentised remedy.
(This is also the principle of tautopathy). He concludes that we are one and whole and energy based; and all metals, minerals and plant and animal substances have a metaphysical energy which rebalance the energy field of the patient.
In a case of profound depression in a 42 year old woman with other complaints such as headaches, PMS, hay fever , bleeding uterine polyps, panic attacks, remedies such as Nat-mur, Aurum, China, Arg-nit and Sepia did not cure. On re-examination of the case, it was found that the patient felt isolated from her family and society, inability to connect with others, claustrophobic in crowds etc. She was indifferent to everything and to her children. Many of her symptoms corresponded to the recent provings of Chocolate. It was prescribed in 30 potency and later in 200 which cured her; a complete report of the follow-up of the case for 20 months is presented.
Dr Nandita Shah discusses two cases of Cobaltum. In both cases, there was a delusion-imagines criminal he is, delusion he has done wrong and he would he hauled up for that. There was also lack of self-confidence with workaholism; guilt even to take a holiday. Another case of a three and half years old boy with behavioural disorders like aggressive behaviour, hitting other children, screaming and throwing things and unresponsive to the punishment. He wanted to play with chords, pipes, phone chords and used to make patterns like a spider spinning a web. Aranea-ixabola, a spider remedy cured him.
- Proving of Helodrilus-caliginosusi, a common field earthworm, in which the provers had dreams of accidents, schizophrenia, high sexuality with perversity and consequent remorse. The article contains an acute case of a patient who survived a serious car accident; her parents died and she and her brother were seriously injured. After discharge from the hospital the patient had grief, numb feeling in arms and one leg and also loss of voice. After taking Hypericum 200, a few doses, her numbness was gone but loss of voice persisted along with lack of energy. She was then prescribed Hel-calig in 30 potency, 3 doses in a day. Within 2 days her voice returned to full strength and her energy also dramatically increased.
- An interesting write-up on Dinosaur and a proving from the fossil of that animal from the pen of Nancy Herrick. The basic themes which emerged from the proving were: apprehension, danger, accidents, helping -no one is helping, joy, fun, ecstasy, decadent sexuality.
- Dr Jonathan Shore discusses a case of a male aged 48 years who was cured with this remedy. The patient gave up his calling as a hypnotist and psychotherapist, became spiritual but gave up because females dominated it. He then fell passionately in love with a woman but was disappointed as she dominated him and he felt he was being destroyed. She also had affairs with others and hence he felt betrayed. He felt he was at a dead end. Dreams-accidents and being involved in accidents. He was prescribed Dinosaur on the basis of the themes referred to above.
The recent issues of Homoeopathic Links carried articles on various spider remedies and in this issue, apart from the case of Aranea-ixobola, a detailed discussion on Latroduectus-mactans, the black widow spider, and also a case of Theridion are given..
The book review section reviews three important books viz-
- Theory of High Dilutions by Rolland Conte (Referred to earlier in this abstracts),
- Encyclopaedia of Remedy Relationships in Homoeopathy by Abdur Rehman.
- Animal Minds and Voices by Nancy Herrick, in which she summarizes the proving of eight new remedies viz. a whole butterfly, blood of a rat, the bone of a dinosaur, milk of the horse, elephant, wolf, dolphin and lion.
