HOMOEOPATHIC CLINICAL CASE RECORDER
Vol VII No1&2

Institute for Cultivation of Health "Alok", Jayawantinagar, Ambajogai-431517 This is a combined issue and contains 15 cases cured with Homoeopathic remedies. Dr Gypser of Germany presents a 36-year-old female with pressing, stitching and cramping pains in the stomach and attendant complaints of insomnia with lack of interest, full of fears, empty eructations after dinner etc for two years. Her main complaint was < night, lying on back and > lying on Rt side. Dr Gypser used the Boenninghausen's Therapeutic Pocket Book for repertorisation and arrived at Phos which cured the patient. Dr Gypser writes; "After having used Kent's method of case analyzing for many years, I found Boenninghausen's method superior to it. It covered more cases than Kent's and sometimes led to surprising results; unexpected remedies came up and cured brilliantly. But as Kent's it is not applicable to all cases".

Tip: Dr K J James writing on Rheumatic remedies points out that while treating rheumatism it is important to pay attention to the location or tissues involved, because of the special affinity of our remedies to certain tissues, synovial membrane etc. He has cured many cases of Rheumatism of knees by alternating Bryonia and Rhus-tox and Sulph is needed to follow up; Where sycotic miasm is the main obstruction, Calc-carb will be needed and Calc-flour when syphilitic. Similarly Tuberculinum follows well for the Tuberculous miasmatic state.

Tip: Dr James also says that whenever deep acting remedies are prescribed, drainage remedies should also be used to prevent aggravation. Dr Nebel of France developed the concept of drainage remedies and Dr James has listed the various drainage remedies for guidance. Dr Mamgain, who is a regular contributor to our Journal also, discusses two cases; in one case of a 5-month-old child suffering from discharge of purulent matter from Lt eye, with redness and inflammation Puls cured. The other case is one of osteomyelitis humerus suppurating scar where the patient, a 20 year old lady, developed this complaint after intra-muscular injections, was cured by Ledum-pal 1M in weekly doses and Graphites 30. Dr Prakash Shinde has discussed 5 cases. A male aged 35 yrs, and an engineer by profession consulted him for pain in lumbar region. Despite consulting two orthopedic surgeons he did not get relief. Despite his pain he never stopped his vigorous exercise regimen and used to travel about 100 kms daily in a motorbike. Based on the rubrics:

  1. Desires company
  2. Active and industrious
  3. Desires open air; cold food
  4. AGG by warm covering
  5. Desires sweets
  6. Sore pain in the lumbar region
    >sitting erect and lying on the back and < jarring and beginning to move
  7. Effects of injury and strain. The remedies which came up on repertorisation were Lyco, Puls, Sepia, Phos, Carbo-veg, Sil, Rhus-tox and Sulph, Silicea was selected on the basis of rocklike personality, very stubborn but patient listener and in a period of 6 months the patient was cured.
Dr Kasim Chimthanawala discusses his success in a case of chronic renal failure with Eel's serum in 30 and 1M potency followed by Natrum-mur 1M. Dr Ajit Kulkarni has presented two cases where uncommon remedies were prescribed. One is a case of Aristolochia-clematis. The patient had tenesmus and mucus in stool, dysuria, incontinence and pain in hypogastrium apart from headache. Dr Ajit Kulkarni has presented the structure of the case and shows how the remedy evolves therefrom. (Dr E Whitmont while writing on the remedy says that the physical symptoms resemble Puls while the mental and personality type seems nearer to Sepia). The other relates to a case of acute bronchial asthma, which responded to a few doses of nosode Streptococcinum 1M.

In the books review section, Dr E Mistry reviews very interesting books. A new translation of Dr Hahnemann's Organon by Steven Decker, stated to be very good. AIDS: the homoeopathic challenge by Jonathan Stallick, where the doctor shares his experience of treating over 400 AIDS cases; Homoeopathy in cancer, tumours, Warts, Ulcers etc by Dr Jiban Das, Dr Gunavante's book titled The Amazing Power of Homoeopathy, Homoeopathic teachings from masters by Edward Cotter and two books by Reshad Field, who is stated to be an authority on spiritual healing. The Editor says that the book "Creation of Health" by Norman Shealy and Caroline Myss must be read by all doctors because it is a unique venture of cooperation between a surgeon (Dr Shealy) and an intuitive energy healer (Caroline Myss). Reading this book will give a fuller view of the way illness develops and why so. The book draws attention to two new thought currents "that we create our own reality and we are headed on a path towards becoming more empowered individuals." The reviews of other journals completes the issue.

HOMOEOPATHIC CLINICAL CASE RECORDER
VOL-S NO : 3

The epidemic these days affecting the eyes is Oedematous Blepharo Conjunctivitis. Dr Satish Rane reports having shortened the period from 7 to 3 days with Nat-mur 200 in about 75 percent. The editorial stresses on Nutrition and dietics which is neglected by busy practitioners due to death of time.

Dental science has changed spectacularly since 1950, and the progress is especially evident in orthodontics and prosthodontics. The profession has been using gold alloys, nickel chrome alloys, chrome cobalt alloys, porcelain acrylic and titanium in various combinations. However, it is found that when two metals have been used in the fillings, the galvanic action with the saliva as electrolyte, the patient often complaints of vague pains. The metallic dental materials in their diversity of alloys,in their composition represent a major hazard. Even gold alloys have shown a tendency to corrode. Dr Nasser reports Titanium for dental prosthesis offers biocompatibility; it is

also corrosion resistant, its low density and high stability help in the process of casing. In view of its light weight compared to other metals used in prosthodontics, titanium offers a better wearing comfort of metal base and allows X-ray diagnostics on the crowned teeth, and it is less expensive when compared gold crown.

Brain scans of nine migraine patients studies within six hours of the start of migraine attacks showed persistent overactivity of the brainstem, report researchers. The scan revealed a possible migraine generator at the point where the brainstem joints the mind-brain says Dr Hans Christopher Diener.

Dr Prabha Patwardhan writes an indepth article on child care and homoeopathy". Recent studies show the milk bottle to be a potent source of infection. The other disadvantage of the milk bottle is that the child finds easier to suck from the bottle than from the breast and hence refuse the mothers breast and prefers the bottle at an earlier date than required. Hence if top feed is required a spoon should be used and not the bottle. The extensive articles deals with topics like Infant mortality rate, preventive treatment, to mother during pregnancy, diet schedule, Immunisation, preventive Homoeopathic treatment, and various rubrics applicable to children.

Think-tank, Brain Teasers, and news cover the rest of the issue edited by Dr Vijay Bhusan.
The October issue of njh is dedicated to the memory of late Dr Jaisoorya. Dr Laxminarayan choose to reprint Dr Jaisooryas article on "Leprosy in India" written in 1960, which is relevant even today. Pulse Polio has gained momentum in the country and Dr Jaisooryas words echoes the feeling of the Indian government- "The more one fails to find successful methods of curing diseases, the more helpless emphasis is laid on what is known as preventive medicine.".

One of the best articles from the pen of Dr M L V Kothari is "The art of teaching medicine." As Thomas Huxley says students work to pass, not to know. When they do pass, they dont know. Dr Kothari advised the students to remember the pneumonic CHRIST>.

C- Compassion H - Humility R- Resourcefulness I - Intelligence S _ Science T - Technology.
I would personally recommend that this article be read by interns and teachers of all Homoeopathic colleges in the country.

Cholera and gastro-enteritis still evoke abject fear and pain among the afflicted and the medicine men alike. Sulphas, and now antibiotics inspire little confidence and less assurance of being effective. "Thus Hahnemann - on cure and prevention of Cholera" is an abstract from the lesser writings of Samuel Hahnemann.

Rene Dubos in the year 1959 put forward the theory that it is not cholera virus which are just the cause of the disease, but it is increased permeability of the gut which is the real culprit of the disease. He opines that cholera can be treated successfully by replacing lost fluid and electrolyte, without any serum ar anti-microbial drug to combat the infection.

Excerpts of Dr Axel Munthes book about his experience with cholera epidemic in Naples, show his exasperation with orthodox medicine.

Dr Wm Griggs practiced Homoeopathy for 68 tears and investigated the efficacy of Bowel Nosodes for 35 years. Bowel Nosodes in his opinion are true Nosodes. This issue throws light on Gaertner co, which is suitably called "The childrens Nosode" because the clinical picture show nutritional disorders common in children. The child is mentally precocious, hypersensitive to all impressions, psychical and physical and shows marked fear of dark or being alone. The symptom complex of over active brain and under nourished body is characteristic of Galentner child. The remedy has been used with great success by Dr Griggs in malignancy cases too.

Continuing the series - Prolongation of life by Gutman, the theme of sleep is deliberated upon.
Dr Kulay reports two cases of trauma. A thorn injury on the chest which led to a non-painful callosity was treated with Ant-crude, and not Silicia. The other case wherein the injury occured at the level of ligaments was treated with Anacardium. Dr Laxminarayan reports cases of Mastodynia wherein Lac-can yielded excellent results.

A quarterly journal by Dr Subhash Meher, Near Hotel Chankya, Anandrishi Marg, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, 414001

This issue of the journal edited by Dr D E Mistry, comes after a lapse of two years due to various reasons, despite strenuous efforts by the Chief Editor. From now it will be be a half-yearly journal. This issue is devoted entirely to cases from practice of homoeopaths. An excellent article on "Follow-up of the case" by Dr Diwan Harisch Chand is a must-read for all the homeopaths, as it covers all aspects as how to follow up a case after the administration of the remedy, including the second prescription, potency, change of prescription etc.

Laparoscopy before contemplated surgery showed uterus and both tubes were normal.

3. Dr K J James, Pune discusses a few interesting cases from his practice. 1)A restless and disobedient child was initially prescribed Tarentula-hisp with no effect but became all right after a dose of Tuberculinum. In another case where an old lady consulted for chronic cough and said that it came after her three of her sisters died in an accident was cured with Ars-alb preceded by Tub 1M on the basis of rubrics- ailments from grief, weeping causeless, suicidal thinking, full moon aggravation, escape attempts to.
