The Masi study group of Holland, presents a novel method taught by Alfonso Masi Elisalde wherein the symptoms of a remedy are clubbed under various themes. The themes five a perfect perception of the remedy. Cocculus studies on similar lines brought out the following themes - anxiety of conscience, anxiety about the health of himself and others, deformation of the senses, easily out of balance, does not want change, empty feeling, head and body are separated, slowness, trifles affect her. Cases of Cocculus are also carried. Deoborah Collins reports a case of Cocculus of a 40 yr old man with weakness, tiredness and vertigo with a floating feeling. Instead of telling his complaints he spoke about his handicapped son who had become the focus of his life. So conscious was he of the child's welfare that he kept wakeful night after night carrying the weepy child in his arms. Later he developed a vacant feeling, lack of concentration and dizziness. Cocculus helped his complaints and changed the state of his mind.

When patients feel a strong relationship with a plant, animal or mineral and use this as a symbol to explain themselves, one has to be aware of possible pitfalls with regard to different meanings a symbol may have for different persons. So it is very important to question again and again what the real properties of the symbol are. One should try and delve into the semantic meaning of symbols brought forward in case taking. A girl who loved cats because they scratch, turned out to be a Anacardium; a man with allergy to cats but also a liking for them - Tuberculinum; another case where the girl liked the cat because she never left her and was always at home was given Mag-phos.
