Dr Ajit Kulkarni organized a 6-day workshop from 20-25th March 2005 at Satara. Mainly attended by foreign delegates from Bulgaria, Russia and Croatia. It was for the first time that Satara town saw that many homoeopaths from abroad.
The day began with garlanding Hahnemann and welcoming the foreign delegates as per Hindu culture. Dr Dora Patchova released Dr Ajit Kulkarni's book "Homoeopathic Posology." Mr M S Aptikar, a Sanskrit Pandit launched Dr Kulkarni's website www.ajit kulkarni.com.
Scientific Sessions
First Presentation: 'The Elusive Merc Group'.
Dr Ajit Kulkarni first laid down the core elements of Merc Group and explained them with many illustrative cases. The personality of Merc was presented through transitional phases viz childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. He corelated through doctrine of signature, the analogical relation between properties of Merc and its portrait in Homoeopathic Materia Medica.
Dr Dora Patchova, President, European School of Homoeopathy spoke on 'Homoeopathy in Bulgaria.Through photographs and slides, she showed Bulgaria as a country and the history of homoeopathy in Bulgaria. Dr Ajit Kulkarni commented that if one would write the history of homoeopathy in Bulgaria, he would have to mention the contribution and dynamism of Dr Dora Patchova.
2. Stress Management and Homoeopathic Approach Dr Kulkarni presented HERO principle (H = Happening, E = Evaluation, R = Reappraisal and O = Outcome) and presented numerous cases to show how HERO principle helps a homoeopath in analyzing the case.
3. The third year students of homoeopathic medical college presented a love story of 15 minutes through 'Dramatizing Materia Medica.' Their superb 'acting' and correlation with MM entertained the participants. The seminar ended with Q-A session and was attended by 150 delegates from different parts of the country.
The five day workshop from 21-25 March 2005 was a deep learning experience for the participants. Daily 2-3 live cases and their in-depth analysis opened for all of us, new ways of analytical methods, new ways of learning Materia Medica and above all a way to introspect ourselves as homoeopaths. Live cases through skilled interview by Dr Kulkarni and then lively discussions made us rich in the practical knowledge of homoeopathy.
Remedies like Bar-ars, Thuja, Lyco, Lach, Calc-sul, Carc, Sepia, Caust were discussed with their comparative study of Materia Medica. A case of Bar-ars was a lesson as everyone was stuck on Kali-ars. But Dr Kulkarni saw a Baryta layer beneath Kali layer which nobody was paying attention to! Dr Kulkarni then beautifully explained through patient's data, behaviour and gesticulations how Baryta is a primary layer where his sickness is represented. He differentiated between Baryta, Calcarea and Kali at length.
In this workshop we were introduced to Dr Ajit Kulkarni's deep, pervasive case-taking and extensive analysis of the data to understand the sickness through nucleus. According to him, nucleus has the very basis of the logistic concept of generalization and nucleus must include analysis of life space, strong physical and mental generals, the miasmatic influence, strong physical particulars, causative modalities, pathology etc all through individual attributes.
While analyzing emotions, he guided extensively and asked the participants to focus on intensity / magnitude / depth / width / length / energy of each emotion and its integration with the total personality.
To Cite a Case: a female aged 60 years, suffering from chronic erythema nodosum. Complaints < wet weather; chilly patient. H/o bereavement due to death of son and daughter; chronic insomnia; PID etc. Family oriented, dependent and conscientious; with self reproach 3. Sometimes vanishing of thoughts. Strong delusion that bones have become brittle and are separated.
A long discussion followed in this case and Dr Kulkarni prescribed Thuja as her constitutional remedy. He focused on fragile ego and the process of dissolution as the nucleus of the case and of Thuja.
In the workshop, Dr Abhay Talwalkar presented 'Carbon Series in Labour,' Dr Madhusudan Vaidya spoke on a case of cardiac neurosis, while Dr Prashant Gangwal presented a case of diabetic ulcer. Dr Apte presented some cases of AIDS and Dr Wadgaonkar some cancer cases.
On the final day, the foreign delegates asked Dr Kulkarni to teach Nux-moschus from 'A Select Homoeopathic Materia Medica,' as some teachers from the group wanted to know how selection of MM is constructed and how to teach MM to the students. Dr Kulkarni's presented the nucleus / monogram of Nux-mos and he differentiated at large with other remedies like Nux-vom, Ignatia, Opium, Moschus etc.
Overall, it was a good workshop. All cases were dealt with totalistic concept and all discussions were well grounded. We learnt a lot and the inspiration which we received from Dr Ajit Kulkarni will definitely motivate us to work as quality homoeopaths.
