ICR Hahnemann Day 2005
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 2005 Mar / Apr VOL VIII NO 2.
Reported by
Dr Aditya Tiwari
The Institute of Clinical Research, Mumbai celebrated the 250th Birth Anniversary of Dr Samuel Hahnemann on 17th April 2005 at its newly acquired hospital at Dahisar. As per tradition, this event is celebrated by educational activity- a lecture or a presentation of cases.
The Experience:
Dr N L Tiwari (MD Hom), the senior most faculty member of the institute, gave an exposition of his MD dissertation topic.
Unprejudiced observer: concept, evolution, application and relevance in homoeopathic practice.
The topic was dealt with at a very basic and conceptual level. It included the travel of a new enthusiastic, ambitious physician without adequate knowledge and vision of the future for homoeopathic practice. The experience contained a few cases from initial practice where difficulties were maximum and available guides were minimum. The identification of prejudice evolved from these cases. The learning from these cases was: The lack of knowledge is a source of prejudice.
Further cases were from his training period under Dr M L Dhawale. These cases showed how Sir evolved various methods from time to time to suit the requirements of the student to help him find his prejudice and become aware of it. The concept of an Observer in a case was the unique contribution of Dr Dhawale and Dr N L Tiwari shared valuable experiences of working with him: How an observer can be a mirror to the physician in helping him identify the prejudice he has and in the process discover his own. Thus the importance of a healthy interaction between the physician and observer was emphasized. The physician needs to be open to the feedbacks given to him by the observer and try to understand them.
The manner in which a person lives his life interferes with his thinking process and eventually hampers Perceiving. This altered perceiving is prejudice. Cases demonstrating the faulty beliefs of physicians were presented to get the point across. Sharing of experiences of interviews with a closed confidential group helps one to get a broader perspective to a single thing. It helps to know how different people look at one thing or one aspect of the case. Thus the presenter gets the benefit of gaining tremendous experience in a very short time and the group also gets an opportunity to know their thought processes and hence their prejudice. The travel was a though journey for him as he had to comply with a huge amount of work given by Dr MLD Sir to the extent of shutting off his running clinic.
The MD students attending the session identified with this process readily as most of them found the training process equally demanding but were relieved to see what potential the training process has to help a common, average student of homoeopathy to reach up to an institutional level. The evolution of a man to institute.
The function ended with facilitations to former IDR-ites:
Dr Kishore Mehta was felicitated for his contribution in the educational activities in homoeopathy.
Dr Jawahar Shah was felicitated for his generous donation of the HOMPATH LAN version software in memory of his mother Smt Hasumati J Shah and in the globalization of homoeopathy. Finally, a short exposition of the details of the layout of the newly acquired hospital by Dr Anoop Nigwekar and Dr K P Pandya.
