Case 1
Ms Sanjuli 25 came with fever since three days with bodyache and, headache. Thirst normal. Different remedies given according to symptoms but in vain. Her family members were insisting for typhoid test. Further questioning revealed a conflict with her MIL the evening she had fever. Taking this as important causative modality, I took the rubric ailments after suppressed emotions and anger, I prescribed Staphysagria 200 for one day followed by Sac-lac and asked her to wait for two days after which she can go for the test. Next follow-up: temperature touched normal after the first dose and remained normal.

Case 2: A Zig-Zag Cure
Mr Hassan Zaheer, 23, a student of M Tech at AMU came to me on 26.3.04 with continuous fever with chills since 19.3.04. He had been taking antibiotics with no effect. Got his blood test done for typhoid and malaria both negative. On case taking: Headache, weakness, could not even get up by himself to take a glass of water, anorexia, bodyache, tongue thick white coated, thirst for full glass of water at moderate intervals. Stool normal. Fever at 12 noon was 103.6 F. Remedy given: Bryonia 200 2 hourly, asked to report next day.

He came on 31.3.04, after a gap of 4 days. He had very high fever with no response after the medicine, so he again took allopathy but his condition was still the same, with some reduction in his temp : it sometimes touches 99 F. His temp at 1 pm was 99 F Bryonia 200 was given 2 hourly. He was asked to maintain a Temp chart.

On 1.4.04: High fever again the previous evening. At my clinic at 11.30 am, it was 99F. Thirst changed to few sips of water, extreme weakness, no appetite, restlessness, Ars Alb 200 3 hourly given. Again reported high fever in the evening, restlessness. Keeping typhoid in mind, specially with evening rise of temp, gave Baptisia 30 1hourly, till fever comes down; then give it 4 hrly.

On 2.4.04: His temperature was 98.4 F in the morning for the first time in so many days Baptisia 30 repeated for two days. Widal test was again negative.

4.4.04: Pt reported a change in the pattern of fever. Temp is normal in the morning rising from 3 pm staying till midnight. Headache starts when temp comes to normal.

Murphy's Repertory referred, fever from afternoon to midnight - Stramonium 200 4 doses at 3hours

5.4.04: He had fever till morning. Complained of severe headache during apyrexial phase Murphy’s Repertory - Rubric taken: Headache, apyrexia during, as a peculiar symptom (Ed: Cannot find the rubric), Sulph 200 - 1for 1 day as an antipsoric, was given as no pathology was found and only functional disturbance was evident followed by Ignatia 200 for 4d 3 hrly.

His temp at 6 pm 99.4, 9 pm-100.8, 12 night-101.2. He slept after that.

6.4.04: 1pm temp 98.4, headache much better. Appetite not improving. Ign 200 4d given and advised to be taken only if he again has fever. Temp at 6 pm 99.4, 10 pm-100.2, 2.30 am 100.8

7.4.04: Temp in the clinic at 1pm 97.6 no headache, weakness better. Previous night he did not have chill before fever. Sweat absent. Restlessness of legs during fever. No appetite but once he starts eating, he eats properly. Remedy given China 200 2d and Rhus-tox 200 3hrly.

8.4.04: No fever, but at around 1.40 temp was 99. Medicine repeated.

9.4.04: Fever from 10 p m to 2.30 a m last night. Now a definite pattern of fever at night noticed Syphilinum 200 for 1d and Sac-lac was given and asked to report after 2days.

11.4.04: No fever (to my great relief!!). Appetite Improved. Weakness +. Kents Rep- Weakness after prolonged fever - Selenium 30 TDS for 5 days.

He is perfectly fine now as I keep asking his cousin who is my regular patient.

This type of cases show the strong role of nosodes where a plateau is reached and are required to arouse the reaction.
