Homoeopathic Work Shop
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 2004 Jul / Aug VOL VI NO 4.
Reported by
Dr N Sreevivaulu

A two days successful homoeopathic workshop was held at CSIC Auditorium IISC campus, Bangalore. On 5th and 6th June. The theme of the workshop was the "Artistic way of Scientific Prescription". This was organized by the Institute of Classical Homoeopathic and Research Foundation and KQHDA.

It started with the melodious invocation rendered in Sanskrit which highlighted the principles of Homoeopathy and Life of Hahnemann, followed by welcome by Dr H L Swamy, Director of ICH and RF and President of KQHDA.

He dedicated the workshop to Dr Pradeep Naik, the former president of KQHDA who met with an untimely death on May 3rd 2004.

Dr B D Patel, Ex - Principal of Govt Homoeopathic Medical Colleges, Bangalore and Chandigarh and Chairman of ICH and RF, was requested to create a suitable ambiance for the learning session.

He talked about the very close resemblance between Vedas and the Organon of Medicine, as both of them need an in-depth knowledge to understand the right interpretation of the real meaning. He quotes a Shanthi Manthram from the Rigveda; "Poornamada Poornamidam Poornath Poornamudachathe, Poornashya Poornamadaya Poornameva Vashishyathe". And he says people just understand the literal meaning but there are many parameters to it unless it is explained in right manner, hardly people understand it scientifically. It can be substantiated, the division of Amoeba is the exact example of the mantra, but philosophical meaning is different etc. In the same way how many of us do really understand the 3rd aphorism, specially the knowledge of disease and Knowledge of Medicine etc. Other example is 26th aphorism. Then again the 3rd aphorism implies that a physician needs knowledge of disease and knowledge of medicine and how to apply the latter to the former. For a common man it appears nothing new in that but the deeper meaning is knowledge of disease not only means (the physio- pathological and structural changes) but which means much beyond those changes. Similarly the knowledge of medicine which not only means what is curative in medicine (ie Physiological, Pathological action of the drug) but which means beyond the Physio Pathological action of the drug.

Main Speakers: Dr J B D Castro and Dr Dhole.

Dr J B D Castro started the work shop with the topic, Where The Homeopaths Fail. He made it clear that homeopathy never fails but homeopaths fail, because of lack of knowledge and proper application of homeopathic principles. He explained the case of Typhoid which was not responding to various treatments for about 3 months but just on the basis of symptom - the patient was lying down quite without complaining or asking any medicine or anything, he prescribed Gelsemium and within next day the fever touched normal.

He gave lots of examples tackled just by observation. I will give here only few cases: A case of Gastritis with long time suffering was cured by Lachesis - just on the symptom - the moment patient enters the doctor's chamber, he takes out his wrist watch and keeps on the table. When questioned by the doctor why he did so? he rqplied he does not want any thing to be tied.

Case 2: He cured with Alumina given on the bases of Gesture- patient was always wiping his face without his knowledge. Case 3 of Ca Rectum where the patient having frequent loose motions was helped by Acid-phos - just on the basis of prolonged loose motions without weakness. Case 4 A lady having multiple problems was helped by Opium, just on the basis of the symptom - "registered fear in the mind: ie say she had fear of drinking water outside home. This fear developed in her since childhood when she suffered with loose motions after drinking water from the tap outside the house.

In the whole presentation of Dr J B D Castro, he talked about topics like artistic use of Repertory in practice, prescription on body language, acute management of emergencies like Angina, snap shot prescriptions etc. He interacted with the audience in the open session quite liberally and enthusiastically, answering many questions clearly and accurately.

Dr Dhole, Principal, Homeopathic Medical College, Amaravathi, Maharashtra, has spoken on different scientific parameters of Nat-mur in curing the diseases.

The delegates came from Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for the first time. Evaluation forms were given to all delegates for feed back. Many asked for work shop with Dr B D Patel with his audio visual cases.

Dr Praveen Kumar, Lecturer - Govt Homeopathic Medical College, Bangalore, who recently successfully completed his MD degree, proposed the vote of thanks.
