This seminar by Dr Prafull Vijayakar organized by Homoeocases.org at Birla Matushree, Mumbai, 16-17 August 2003, was attended by 1000 students and Homeopaths.
THE FIRST DAY: Inaugural Session: Many books were released:
1. Dr Vijayakar’s book on Miasms, "Mysumptions of Miasm".
2. Dr Pravin Jain’s ‘Essentials of Pediatrics’ and ‘Simple and Easy Keynotes’.
3. Dr Bandish Ambani ‘Practical Cases’ .

According to Dr Vijaykar ‘Miasm’ is the defense an individual adopts in a particular illness. There are only three miasms: Psora, Sycosis and Syphilis.
PSORA is manifested as Irritability, Sensitivity, Anxiety at the mental level and as an inflammatory process at the physical level.
SYCOSIS is of two types: Sycosis excess and Sycosis shallow.
SYCOSIS EXCESS : manifested as show, extravagance, display, facade, haughtiness at the mental level and induration, accumulation, hyperpigmentation at the physical level.
SYCOSIS SHALLOW: timid, bashful and unintelligent at the mental level and hypo functioning, hypopigmentation at the physical level.

SYPHILITIC MIASM: "out of control" - patient cannot control his emotions. Everything in him is distorted, perverted, and ugly. At the physical plane, all destructive processes come under this miasm. The syphilitic miasm is of two types: Apolysis and Necrosis.
In Apolysis, the individual is genetically programmed for self-destruction. Hence, auto-immune diseases fall in this category. At the mental level, they have anxiety conscience, as if guilty of crime. In such cases remedies which are self killers like Aur-met will help.
Necrosis- The genes are programmed to destroy a particular part. Mentally these people are violent towards others and not towards self. Remedies which come under this category: Fl-ac etc.
Merc and Nit-ac come in both the categories.

Cancer belongs to the syphilitic miasm where there is loss of control over cell division and growth. Therefore, psoric remedies do not help nor do remedies which are only sycotic.
Even so called incurable diseases when treated with Homeopathy should show:
a) Hering’s law or b) Compensatory cure.
Eg cancer goes away and diabetes comes.

The reason for failure in getting good results is:
1. Finding right simillimum and
2. Not understanding Hering’s law.

CASE 1: A man, who, 15 years ago, was in the I.C.U on respirator, now suffering from collapse after acute cardiac failure. The collapse was sudden: while talking to his son-in-law, he went into collapse and nothing would bring him out. All had given up hope.
Since, patient was collapsed, there was paucity of symptoms. He chose one strong rubric and differentiated the various remedies.
Rubric taken was-Sudden collapse.
Hahnemann says never select any remedy until the disposition matches.
The patient was an austere man, a man of principles- holding high positions in organizations-Authoritative-Dominating-Positive. Started lot of organizations and single handedly took them to success.
Arsenic-alb 200 was given after ruling out all the other remedies in the rubric - sudden collapse and positive.
Immediately the patient started moving his hands. Within 24 hrs, he passed urine - a sign of elimination of toxins. The patient is now 85 yrs old and still healthy.

Explanation of the various kinds of positivities
- Ars positivity is leadership quality, censorious and Critical.
- Sep positivity is a negative positivity. It is a positivity because of helplessness, grief. She has to carry on work in this direction.

CASE 2: Coma.
A 67yr female was admitted to a hospital in Kolkatta with coma after filarial lymphadenitis. She was diagnosed as septicemia with metabolic encephalopathy.
The symptoms were;
Does not recognise anyone or talk.
Unconscious, opens eyes sometimes.
Recognises no one.
Slow gradual collapse.
Journey of disease:
Fever due to filarial infection in the left leg. Rx heavy antibiotics as diagnosed as UTI with pus in urine. The pus cells decreased, but the kidney started failing. Serum Creatinine increased and she went into coma.
Analysis of the case:
Question-was she tolerating A/C or fan in the hospital?
The patient became very sensitive to draft of A/C two days before she developed coma and asked to change the direction of the blower.
Question - What was her mood before she went into coma?
She was not talking much, which was not her usual nature. She usually talks well with the family. She was quite reluctant to answer questions. Did not smile or talk to son, daughter, daughter-in-law who are near and dear to her.
Observation - She constantly wanted to move the upper part of her body.
Analysis-

• Activity - Dull, Chilly, Thirstless
• Disposition - Anger when obliged to answer.
• Restlessness of the body.

CASE 3: Encephalopathy in a 16 yr male patient.
Journey of Disease:
Complaining of severe headaches daily at 6pm. Would go into a delirious state for 4-5 hrs. Headache as if blows which shook the whole body.
(Spasm, constriction, irritation is always psoric, but if it is out of proportion or threatens life it is syphilitic). Patient was on Rifampicin.
Blisters in the mouth before the headache: The disease had traveled from ectoderm to endoderm then to brain-gone into the syphilitic miasm.
The first remedy prescribed was Kali-bi considering the periodicity. He was completely OK for next 2days followed by aggravation indicating that remedy was wrong.
It was later realized that the boy was sensitive to Rifampicin and developed headache exactly 4 hrs after its administration.

The boy was loquacious, full of energy. In one incidence, he wrote letters to the President, Prime minister, Chief minister, Education minister, etc about some complaints in the college which led to a surprise visit by higher authorities in the college. This he had done even though family members had advised him not to.
So obstinate that he would throw off medicine in front of the doctor in the hospital because he knew it was aggravating him.

Nux-vom 200 single dose given on following parameters:

• Sensitive to drugs
• Head Cerebrospinal axis A/F
• Defiant, Obstinate resists the wishes of others.
• Head shock, jerks, blows
• Chilly
• Loquacity
• Positiveness

CASE 4: A little child who came with swelling in the scrotum diagnosed as Hamartoma. He had been operated for hamartoma in the perineal region before this.
A hamartoma is a rare tumour involving all the 3 germinal layers, ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm.
There was a history of hepatitis B injection given to the mother during pregnancy. The mother had oligoamnios, which means Sycosis shallow.
The child was restless, timid, fearful and angry. Hot with perspiration.
History of AF vaccination and above characteristics, given Thuja 200 single dose.
The tumour started regressing, but a fistula developed. Also mind started showing signs of destruction. The child had become violent-causing harm to others. If the father scolded him he would scold back. Thus, a destructive process was on now. Hence, the remedy was changed inspite of the tumour regressing.
The child was restless, hasty, hurried. There was increased appetite and no satiety. He would never say stop for eating food. He was fearless, and there was loss of love for life. He had a habit of lifting the skirts of girls (syphilitic miasm)-sense of right and wrong abolished. He would put his hand in the dog’s mouth fearlessly. Once went to school and did not want to come back. This shows no attachment. Very intelligent child. Sudden burst of anger. When told not to do something, wanted to do just that. All emotions were out of control, showing the child was in a syphilitic state.
Analysis of the Case :
Thuja single dose created a dent in the patient. Thuja had started the process of absorbing the tissue. But we are supposed to cure by Reaction of the body and not by action of the medicines.
Why Thuja had worked at all? Because it covers ‘ailments from vaccination’ plus it is sycotic.
So a remedy has to be found which has a relation to Thuja + hot + very thirsty + ailment from vaccination + very restless + aggressive + intelligent with precocity and destructiveness. Ceaseless activity and defiance. Wants to control others. The remedy prescribed was Merc-sol single dose.
Follow-up:
The tumour decreased, black spots appeared on the skin with no destruction (hyperpigmentation - sycosis. The child’s nature improved. He became more sober and nice and started getting psoric complaints.
Points to remember-
Chronic constipation is accumulation, hence sycotic.
If a child treated for acute inflammation goes into constipation your remedy is wrong.
So also coryza going into snuffles means wrong remedy.
Anacardium is a syphilitic remedy. Pt eats too much, not because of increased hunger, but because of no satiety.

CASE 5: A boy, 7-8 yrs of age developed convulsions because of a granuloma in the left high parietal region. There was a 5 mm cyst. He was diagnosed as LKS, Landor Kefflor syndrome. He started getting aberrations in speech.
Cystosarcoidosis is a space occupying legion caused by a parasite. It should resolve on its own, but in this child it went in the wrong direction and he was put on Tegretol.
After that, he started getting hearing impairment, stammering, missing words and finally no speech.
Journey of disease-
With the invasion of the parasite, brain cells started reacting with inflammation. Initially, he was given steroids which are immuno-suppressants. The psoric condition was not allowed to express itself and he went into a destructive phase.

• A mild child originally, he had started becoming irritable and obstinate since 2 yrs.
• He had convulsions with consciousness. During fits, child would walk from one room to another.
• The video showed him as making gestures. Rubric- Gestures makes.
• Hiding his face . Rubric-Hiding.
• Playing and posing for the camera. Rubric- Antics plays.

• The child was very sharp in mind, quick and active mentally.
• Fear of dark
• Clinging to mother
• Jumping about.
• Rubric- A/F Fright. As a confirmation Dr Vijayakar asked, ‘Was he frightened just before he developed the problem?’ The answer was yes, he had seen a mutilated dead body of a beggar.
