CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

Letters to the Editor
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 2002 May / Jun VOL NO 3.

Thank you Editor, for reviving the ‘OPEN FORUM’ section in Feb 2002and Dr S K Rana too for his excellent question: "Are Mother Tinctures Homoeopathic Medicines?"
Dr Rana starts smoothly on the subject, but then he goes zigzag and finally misses the truck. But FIRST, we should define Drug, Medicine and Remedy. Each have specific meanings in Homoeopathy. To Quote Late Dr J N Kanjilal on ‘Homoeopathic Remedy’
Question: Is Quinine a Homoeopathic Remedy?
Answer: No
Question: Is Tincture Cinchona a Homoeopathic Remedy? Answer: Divided-Yes and No!
Question: Is Cinchona Q a Homoeopathic Remedy? Answer: Yes.
Question: Is China 200 a Homoeopathic Remedy?
Answer: Yes, of course.

But the reality is, neither Quinine nor Tincture Cinchona, nor Cinchona Q, nor China 200 is an allopathic or Homoeopathic medicine per se. A medicine neither becomes allopathic or homoeopathic by dint of name, nor pharmacist nor prescriber.
A drug becomes a medicine when made suitable for prescription. A medicine becomes a remedy when applied against a particular diseased condition. A remedy becomes homoeopathic only when applied on the principle of ‘Similia Similibus Curentur’. Any remedy applied on any other basis or principle, can be anything but not a Homoeopathic remedy.
Of course, in accordance with the basic principle, the method of preparing and prescribing medicines differ in different systems of medical science. And in consistence with the basic principle of symptom-similarity, the Homoeopathic Remedy is, as a rule, prescribed in minimum dose, in potency, to secure deeper action and avoid aggravations. But these are ALL. Based on this principle, not only basic tinctures or mother tinctures, even crude drug in material doses, if necessary, eg various external remedies, the remedy is nothing but Homoeopathic. On the other hand the highest potency applied in minimum possible dose, cannot become a Homoeopathic Remedy if not prescribed strictly on the above principle.

More clearly, Dr Kanjilal says that:
Question: A case of sore throat has come to you, what remedy will you give? Answer: promptly- Mere-Sol.
If that fails? -Phytolacca
If that again fails? - Baryta-carb
Such answers come not only from an examinee, but often from full-fledged Homoeopathic practitioners!. No wonder!! This ‘hit and miss and hit again’ method is totally inconsistent with the very term Homoeopathy. Without getting the symptoms how can you find the remedy?

Homoeopathic Prescription is always on the totality. Even in the busiest chamber you must first secure at least some keynote symptoms (the key, constitute the basic note of the totality), before you can think of finding the Homoeopathic Remedy.
Hope readers including Dr Rana (Editor: The Similitude) will be satisfied with Dr Kanjilal’s explanation.
Dr P G Chowdhary

It was heartening to read from your pen (2/02) that " I find that my greatest happiness comes when a patient tells me: I feel so good after i have started coming to you.............we care for our patients and it shows". For us, physicians can any reward be greater than this?

I would like to add my greatest joy and happiness is epitomised when our patient says," the visits to you are so much exciting and learning, that each time I come to you, I feel I leave as a better person and that I have learnt something in life" Beautiful words!
You got my name wrong in the article on Stress. It would sure be nice if you rectify the mistake
Dr D J Sutarwala, Calcutta

In reference to your letter dated (Ref No.: 358) 16-08-2002, As a fact I have not called to undertake this case. But, I have been cured 5 cases of the same problem: one: hearing impaired, two voice suspended and two cases of the vision completely suspended (Photophobia), with Phosphorous 10M, which gave (single dose) perfect recovery of all the problems and they are all well since 7 years of time. The Phosphorous should be administered single dose which generally produces in 48 hours, convulsions of severe nature which continue from 2 to 48 hours in rare cases. First this medicine produces resulting in sensitiveness of any part of the body with severe burning for 24 hours, later two consecutive nights where in that process, thick grey sweat eliminates along with free flow of urine and stool for 2 to 3 days later the convulsions subsides itself, and the menses appear naturally for 4 to 5 days and continues forever according to the natural system. I have two paralysis completely recovered. We cannot see any evidence in any repertory, or materia medica of such symptoms after ‘lumbar puncture’. So its my doctrine only if you found true in my words, you could publish, or you could observe such cases in future and come to conclusion than only you could publish. No one is authoritative for this research work. It is not possible, as you written often. Its 100% true to my knowledge as I have been observed more than 25 cases in which the same blunder (Lumber puncture while in 104 degree fever stage) and still they are suffering since that day. All are not ready to use our medicine because it produces, severe convulsions with Phosphorus.

I am having several researches in this field which cannot be understood and accepted by the so called well qualified homoeopathic practitioners, because they always want to do routine job, without much desire to tackle problematic situations. The world is not ready to accept.
