CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

Is Terrorism A Sickness?
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 2002 Jul / Aug VOL 4 NO 4.
Dr S K Mamagin

Terrorism is the act of terrorizing ie use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, especially such use as a political weapon or policy. In present era the terrorism has taken enormous dimensions, the terrorists are not using force or threats only; they are killing innocent people to terrorize. They are using not only highly sophisticated weapons and explosives for the killings; they are using other methods of destruction and killings. The destruction of twin World Trade Towers in U. S. A. on 11th September 2001 through high jacked planes is one of the examples, where the desire to kill has become very prominent, although the killer also loses his life in such acts.
As a matter of fact, the healthy and rational mind does not think to harm others, does not threaten others to demoralize rather he thinks to help others tries to boost the moral of other people. He thinks to become useful to his family and his society. Only a mind irrational in itself thinks the opposite. The chronic miasms pervert the mind of their preys in there own ways.
Syphilitic miasm is the most destructive among the miasms. It is quite probable that the terrorists are infected with Syphilitic miasm.

ORTEGA P S, writes about Syphilitic Miasm in "Notes on the Miasms". The pattern of our reasoning about the Hahnemannian principles appears quite clear at this point; in the syphilis miasm we group all that is destructive, in man’s organs as well as in his mind. Destructive and degenerative alterations will take place from his skin in, to his bones. Corrosive acne, osteomyelitis, alopecia, scald head, an ulcerated callous, duodenal or metritic ulcer, and malignant glioma - all will have the reddish tint of this third miasm. We have already said, and never tire repeating, that in the clinic we never find it isolated, just as little as we find the other two isolated; most of the time one of them predominates.
Mentally, the patient with the syphilitic miasm will, openly or in a veiled manner, be prepared for violence in his reactions to his family and to society; he upbraids those close to him on the slightest pretext or harangues the multitudes to take up arms and commit acts of terrorism - in street fights as in international disputes. He will not hesitate to carry through monstrous resolutions or to harm humanity; he will regard as appropriate both the death of an individual and the explosion of a nuclear bomb over a town. In our patient we recognize rancor, hatred, the desire to kill or to commit suicide and to destroy there is wickedness, fury and rage-whether concealed or ready to explode.
The mental defects which remind us of solutions of continuity are cruelty, contempt for others, blind unbridled jealously due to extreme distrust, and an individual who is tortuous, degenerate and blindly insistent-to the point of destruction or exhaustion.

CHOUDHURY H. says in "Indications of Miasms": Timidity is usually psoric, just as ostentation or fatuousness is sycotic and the desire to kill is syphilitic (PS O.). Morose, Mistrustful,
Desire to kill and to commit suicide. Slow in reaction. Imbecility. Cruelty. Jealousy
Homoeopathy is a science of therapeutics in which the mental symptoms are of great importance for the selection of the curative medicine. The homoeopathic Materia Medica contains numerous medicines which pervert the mind of provers in their own manner causing desire to kill or commit suicide, to destroy, wickedness, etc., etc. The pathogenesis of some of the important medicines for the above morbid desires and temperaments are compiled hereunder compiled from the sources mentioned against each medicine:
Silicea-Terra
- * Mind, TORMENTS those about him (SR p 197: alum, Calc, lach) She torments everyone around him. It means, making someone do what you want for your own egotistical desires. Terrorization. Capital remedy is Calcarea-carbonica. You also have Silica who can be obstinate and who cries when someone speaks kindly to him. - This is the behaviour that Calcarea can have, but which is not a general idea of Calcarea. [Hom Links 1999-Winter]

MERCURIUS the great homoeo-syphilitic, which obviously includes syphilis in the first place, then psora, and finally something of sycosis, quite logically has the characteristics of the third miasm: destruction, involution, perversion, spasms, ulceration, and mortification. In the mental sphere it includes the sickness which the psychologists call "existential anguish" but which should more correctly be "existential anxiety" because, in its most acute stage, it gives rise to true anguish, that is, fear in its highest degree which weighs us down and seizes us, isolating us more and more from any point of support until we erupt in an unvoiced cry, and appeal for help which is not even made or, if it is made, is useless since we remain with a feeling of restless unbearable solitude in our heart or spirit, in our innermost being. As our MATERIA MEDICA states: much anguish with excessive internal torment, fear of going insane, as though he had committed a crime, which causes ceaseless agitation and inability to rest in any position; as though he were crazy, dejected, or with a vague anxiety without knowing why, "an inexplicable feeling of insupportable internal malaise which leaves him outwardly undaunted". (Hahnemann). "He believes himself undergoing martyrdom without being able to explain what he feels, is constantly in a state of anguish and restlessness, which is aggravated at night as though he had not been in his right and at the same time suffers hallucinations of true dementia, such as for example, to him water seems colored, he says stupid things, does stupid things such as making a fire in the fireplace on a warm evening and does not even want to eat; is irascible, rough, defiant, picking fights with everyone, unable to bear contradiction, continuously grumbling, or totally unable to think, or with loss of memory and will-power, loss of consciousness, loss of speech, terrified of liquids........ Syphilis makes the mind aggressive and limits it by destroying it; therefore, the symptoms largely justify our calling this third miasm "destructive", and the version of the symptoms given in the MATERIA MEDICA is absolutely correct. We should note well what Allen has written: "Sharpness of thought is affected", and then he states: "loss of will in a characteristic form", "loss of memory, forgets the names of persons or places". These are like mental gaps in which we note the destructibility of the mind, the inclination to suicide, the desire to kill; in the mother, the desire to throw her child into the fire. All of this perfectly brings out the desperation to which the MERCURIUS patient is brought by the delirious form of his life. [ORTEGA P. S., "Notes on the Miasms"]

Nux-Vomica 15C - Violent; desire to kill; disposed to reproach others; oversensitive
[BOUKO LEVY M., Homeopathic and Drainage Repertory]

Lachesis-mutus - The ensuing unconsciousness may be a defensive strategy to discourage the most extreme manifestation of her jealousy, the desire to kill (‘Kill, desire to’: 1 and ‘Jealousy, kill, driving to’: 1 P. Schmidt’s Additions to Kent’s Repertory). [CANDEGABE E. F., Comparative Materia Medica]

Mercurius-solubilis - Another peculiarity of Mercurius is a strong desire to commit murder.
This desire is not the effect of a premeditated plan of vengeance but it is simply a desire to kill - sometimes directed against persons, she is particularly fond of.
Something urges her to kill her husband of whom she is very fond and she implores him to hide his razor.
Such abnormal state of mind should receive our special attention.
At times, this desire to kill is directed towards her own self. [CANDEGABE E. F., Comparative Materia Medica]

There comes a certain point at which Hepar will become very nasty and irritable, because they can’t stand it any more and then they shout, they yell. They hear one little word and feel that they are being contradicted and they can’t stand that sense of contradiction. It may produce in Hepar the desire to kill, they may have an impulse to kill, but this is a later stage. [MORRISON R, Burg Hamsted, Sept 1988]

She also fears that people will use her vulnerability against her and as a result does not show herself to others readily. The defense response of Hyoscyamus is the desire to destroy through vindictiveness or maliciousness or to kill. In contrast to Stramonium, Hyoscyamus is independent and not in need of anyone. The wall of Hyoscyamus can be summed up through the following personality traits:
rages hysterical selfish

emotional pain no self-esteem
reproaches self destructive
victim takes up a lot of space
