Obituary: Dr Ramesh D Jain
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 2001 Mar / Apr VOL III NO 2.
Dr Smita Trivedi

Short Life Sketch: Dr Ramesh D Jain, popularly known as RD Jain, was born on 1st May, 1954.
Education: B Sc1975 - St Xavier's college, Bombay University.
LCEH Jan1980 - CMP Homoeopathic Medical College, Mumbai and graded degree course BHMS from Pune -1989.
1980-89: Joined Mumbadevi Homoeopathic Hospital as Hon physician and Lecturer, Homoeopathic Materia Medica and Physiology at his own alma mater, CMP Homoeopathic Medical college at Irla, Mumbai.
1990: Principal, Virar Homoeopathic College, Virar. His abiding interest in HMM made him continue as head of Homoeopathic Materia Medica department.

His Main Contribution: Research on application of elements of periodic table in Homoeopathy. Fortunately he has left behind a treasure in his book on the subject, which was reviewed last year in NJH His other areas of extensive work was on leucoderma, psoriasis, diabetes, heart diseases and Cancer.

He presented several scientific papers on the subject. Some clinical provings of new medicines on basis of Periodic Table: Cesium-iodide, Cesium-chloride, Lanthanum-nitrite, Ruthenium-iodide, Rubidium-iodide, Magnesium- fluoride, Kali-fluoride, Tyrosine, Yttrium, etc.
He was publisher and Author of two books:

  1. Universal Materia Medica with Pharmacodynamics: explaining how to use the periodic table elements in Homoeopathic practice.
  2. Biochemical Tissue remedies with Therapeutic index and Zodiac signs: explaining how to use biochemical medicines in practice.
This Homoeopathic Sun set down suddenly before shining in full bloom by cruel hands of destiny. He died on 30th April, 2001 by massive brain-stem infarct.

What he had achieved in his life was due to his own effort and excellent knowledge in patho-physiology and in Homoeopathic Materia Medica. He will always remain alive and immortal in Homoeopathic history through his excellent work and dedication for homoeopathy and his two books.

He has left behind 2 young children: Dinak (XII), Ruchi (FYJC), Mother Bhikiben, wife Pawan, an elder brother and six sisters. May God give them strength to absorb this shock!

Editor: I knew him personally for many years. He has written extensively for NJH. He was always a very helpful soul, practical and approachable. He would always take pains to share his experiences and thoughts. To lose life in the prime of life is really sad; he still had much to offer. I am just glad he did not suffer much. He got the headache on and did not ignore it. He went for a check up and next day only he went into coma, never to recover. In that sense God was kind.

But we have lost too many Homoeopaths of late; old and young. We should request God to protect our tribe and not let it become an endangered species.

Our other losses in this year have been Dr Lakshminarayan of Hyderabad. Especially NJH will very miss him. In spite of his age and business, he always made it a point to write critical comments about NJH issues, most have been printed in these pages. This is one angle we have not a single other replacement. In fact it is one of the banes of NJH that our reader's page these days is going empty. We request readers to fill this lacuna.

3. Dr SR Wadia, the grand old man of homoeopathy, another one of those who always wrote me a 2-liner for any event or happening, despite his age and health and business. Fortunately, all these three have gone away with their working shoes on.

My very own, acute personal loss this week has been of my darling Churchill, who has regaled you with stories all through the NJH history. He breathed his last on 6th July, 2001, midnight, on the operation table, being attended to for a freak and acute emergency of Volvulus - torsion of the colon - leading to distention, diagnosed within 2 hours, confirmed, acted upon, but to no avail. But he gave us 10 lovely years and went with dignity and grace and again with little suffering.

Dr Farida Talati, NJH life-member; and long time associate of Dr SR Wadia, shares her feeling with us.
