Dr Sundaravaradan of Chennai had compiled the observations of eminent Homoeopaths for the treatment of Tuberculosis. Some of the tips are reproduced below:
- Calcarea-carb is indicated late in phthisis when large cavities are forming; it particularly acts upon the middle third of the right lung.
- Dr Farrington - Calcarea patient is always tired: exhausted and takes cold easily. These colds settle in chest and ultimately develop into TB; Calc-carb cures this tendency and prevents TB. It encourages calcification of tubercular areas. Even in advanced cases it arrests progress and stimulates calcareous deposits.
- Dr Junkarmann - Digitalis is most suitable to subdue the hectic fever of phthisis.
- Dr Boehr - I am fond of Lycopodium in cases of suspected phthisis in young women, where there is yet no evidence of tuberculous deposit.
- Dr Hering - Tuberculinum is not only specific for pulmonary tuberculosis but it is also a good remedy for bony suppurations specially for those cases not responding to other remedies.
- Dr Francis Cartier - Bryonia and Gels for continued and profuse sweats in phthisis.
- Dr Douglas - Sulphur is indicated in tuberculous lymphadenitis complicated by caseation, breakdown and multiple sinus formation with secondary infection-a condition described as scrofula and met with emaciated, older subjects where tuberculosis is rife.
- Dr DM Gibson - I find Insulin very useful in sinuses formed after suppuration of tubercular glands of the neck. In the first stage of inflammation Calc-iod, Tuberculinum etc in high potency are very effective in curing the enlargement without going into suppuration. When we get cases where the glands have given way and draining pus for a long time or go into suppuration in spite of treatment, with gradual emaciation and anaemia, Insulin, in potencies from 30th to 200th is very efficacious. It not only cures the sinuses but also regenerates the health of the patient within a short period of time.
- Dr Ghosh - Silicea has proved of value in Tuberculosis of lung, skin, bones, abdomen, lymph nodes but in advanced cases should not be given in too high potency. The remedy possesses an ability to stimulate absorption of fibrosed and scar tissue. It should therefore be avoided in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, where there may be encapsulated pockets of tubercle bacilli, which might be released to cause a fresh active disease.
- Dr DM Gibson - I have wasted much time in trying to find a remedy in cases with a history of TB in the family. Now I give a dose of Tuberculinum and miracles happen. I like very much to augment Tuberculinum with Syphilinum.
- Dr Wilbur K Bond - Phos, Silica and Lachesis are three dangerous remedies when there is a pre-tubercular tendency; the wrong potency or too frequent repetition may drive the patient into active tuberculosis.
- Dr EW Hubbard - Tubercular meningitis: As a prophylactic measure, which has been widely, practiced in cases where there is a tubercular inheritance, Bacillinum 10M, 50M and CM at 6 to 8 weeks interval will frequently eradicate this tendency.
- Dr Kent - Zofy recommends Kali-hydroidium and Cannabis-sativa for TB. In his 60 years practice, he used the above in alternation and asserts that no remedy in the entire material medica has such an influence in lessening the cough, the expectoration, the colliquative sweats and the hectic fever.
- Dr Dewey - Phellandrium-aquaticum is an excellent remedy in the last stages of phthisis when the expectoration is terribly offensive.
- Dr E A Farrington - An excellent remedy for offensive expectoration and cough in TB, bronchitis and emphysema esp TB affecting the middle lobe. Everything tastes sweet. Sticking through right breast, near sternum extending to back under the shoulders. Cough with profuse foetid expectoration compels the patient to sit up.
- Dr Junkarmann - Pulsatilla is often useful, valuable palliative in nocturnal loose coughs as of phthisis.
- Dr Hughes - Tarentula-cubensis soothes the dying sufferer in Pulmonary TB as I have never seen any other remedy do.
- Dr Kent - Rumex in advanced stages of phthisis is a great palliative; Arnica relieves the soreness; if Arnica is insufficient, Pyrogen will help. Tarentula-cubensis will relieve the diarrhoea.
- Dr Sundaravaradan - Kali-carb will often ward off future sickness when there is a family history of TB. It is often suitable and act as an acute remedy in advanced stages of phthisis, in cases where it is not the constitutional remedy; where it is indicated as the constitutional remedy it will do damage in the last weeks.
- Dr Junkarmann
