This year on 5th & 6th February 2000, NJH Mumbai organized a Genius Seminar at Aurangabad, under the guidance of Dr Pradeep Garge - Chairman of Genius Trust. Speakers were stalwarts from Calcutta, Dr S K Dubey and Dr Mahendra Singh.
In the typical NJH tradition, seminar was inaugurated by garlanding of Dr Samuel Hahnemann's portrait by Dr S K Dubey and lighting of lamp by Dr Mahendra Singh. Dr P Y Kulkarni, CCH member, presided over the function. Special guests of honor: Dr Ishwar Das, Advisor on Homoeopathy, Government of India, Dr Bhasme, Principal Beed College, Dr Sunil Parse, Dean of Homoeopathy M U H S, Nasik.
1St Session: Dr Dubey discussed Kali group and started with Modalities. Kali has early morning aggravations (Natrum Group) Discharges eg Kali-mur - milky discharge from the nose, which then becomes thick yellowish in Kali-sulph, followed by the stringy discharges of Kali-bich. Then this nasal discharge adopts chronicity, acrid, excoriating & thick type in Kali-iod. He then illustrated dropsical swellings of Kali-carb and Kali-iod. Fidgetiness of hand in Kali-brom. Odematous swelling is a characteristic of Kali group. He also described the spotty type of periodic pain of Kali-bich, which also applies to duodenal ulcer pain. While describing skin he highlighted the use of Kali-ars in neurofibroma of skin - in nodule under the skin. Carcinocin follows Kali-ars in this type. He also gave practical tips: do not give Carcinocin when there is open cancer - ie established cancer. It is always given in pre-cancerous stage. Kali-brom, Kali ars are very important acne remedies. He warned never to give a Kali when there is fever. Kali- bich is a wonder remedy in frontal sinusitis. The sinusitis with sciatica is a key note of Kali-iod.
Second Session was by Dr Mahendra Singh, a doyen of Organon & Philosophy. He gave a detailed account of history of medicine. He gave many references of the past. He also highlighted the contents of the book: Divided Legacy by Dr Harris Coulter. Though this session was more academic or theoretical, Dr Singh made the topic very easy by his witty and simple exposition.
Third Session: Dr S K Dubey on management of Asthma. Constitutional and Palliative treatments were discussed. He cited many acute drugs to be prescribed in paroxysm of acute asthma. In asthma fundamental cause is sycosis. In Psoric asthma there is 80% recovery. Syco-Syphilitic asthma has the worst prognosis. He gave detailed therapeutics of many drugs for asthma with their characteristics. Typical wheeze & Rhonchi in chest, which were brought back to normal by Hepar-sulph & Kali-carb. Palliative medicines for asthma include Aspidosperma, Cassia, Aralia, Robeliain Q
Case-Taking By Dr Mahendra Singh: He illustrated the different aphorisms of our Organon from 84 to 104. He emphasized the need to take into account Dr Kent's teachings on case-taking. He also explained how to reach the similimum through proper interrogation of patient.
Second Day: study of nosodes, a Brahmastra of our homoeopathic repertoire by Dr S K Dubey. He started with explaining the sources of homoeopathic Materia Medica, which includes proving, clinical observation, and knowledge of toxicology. Sources of pharmacy- are divided into animal, vegetable, mineral & lastly nosodes, sarcodes, impondrobilia etc.
Drugs from Vegetable kingdom are short acting except Thuja & Lycopodium. Animal Kingdom that is Apis, Lachesis, Crotalus act in subacute to chronic ailments. Minerals such as Arg-nit, Stannum, Aur act on chronic conditions. Nosodes act on chronic conditions. The first indication of nosodes is "when best selected remedy fails". When all nosodes fail, think of Carcinocin. Nosodes are polycrest remedies. The most powerful medicine. He warned about misuse of nosodes. He cautioned that one should never start treatment with nosodes. Nosodes are a must for Rheumatic disease. In chronic cases to complete cure you need nosodes. Nosodes are never given in low potency; always given in high, with little repetition.
Second Session BY Dr Mahendra Singh: was very interesting. He gave full account of 1st and 2nd prescription & relationship of medicine. He said the 2nd best prescription for a Hahnemann Homoeopath is Placebo, this means do not be hasty while going for 2nd prescription. He was very critical of the practice, where they gave multiple medicines in different potency at a time. This type of practice is ruining true homoeopathy. He advised to stick on to golden rule of single remedy and single dose at a time.
The Last session with Dr S K Dubey was on Materia Medica of Medorrhinum in a lucid style. He quoted each and every line from Allen's Key Notes and Boericke's Materia Medica on the drug based on his experience of last 50 years. He asserted that each and every word in the two references is important when you read Materia Medica. Main Indication of Medorrhinum was on constitutional effect of suppressed gonorrhoea. Its effect on suppression from diseases of gout, spinal diseases, diseases of meninges etc. He gave a case of enuresis which was cured by Med with H/o sycosis in the past.
Last Session was question hour. Every delegate participated.
