NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1999 May / Jun VOL VIII NO 3.
Reported by
Dr S.S. Vithal
A two-day workshop on classical Hom was held in Khanna (Pb) on 27-28 Feb 1999.
First Session: 'Physician Patient Interaction'. With Cartoons and graphs, Dr Ajit Kulkarni showed the changing roles of physician and patient and how they are to be comprehended in the first interview and in the subsequent follow-ups. Various role models like Active -Passive, Passive- Passive, Active- Active, Guidance- Cooperation, mutual Participation, Soial Intimacy etc. were discussed. He advised physicians to focus on the need of each individual patient and set his own role and behave accordingly so that he will be able to vibrate with the patient in a better way. Citing various cases, Dr Ajit kulkarni highlighted the special benefit of integrated, classical homoeopathic approach, which is reflected through the clinical interview, making the physician more versatile and mature in his personality; only demerit being early deprivation of childishness.
Second session: The study of material medica. " Dr vitthal, a classical homoeopath of khanna, released a second and revised edition of " A select homoeopathic Materia medica- Part-I" authored by Dr P I Tarkas And Dr Ajit Kulkarni. Dr Vithal commented, "This is an excellent work done by any author on M.M so far. Homoeopathy is like a sea and this M.M is like a beautiful pearl in the big ocean."
Dr Ajit Kulkarni described various ways of studying Materia Medica like
- Source of origin.
- Personal and family characteristics
- Identity
- Morphology
- Habitat
- Physical and chemical Properties
- Family relationship
- Elective affinity
- Doctrine of Analogy/Signature
- Physiology and toxic effect
- Medicinal and Non-Medicinal uses
- Group study of M.M
- Repertorial Study of M.M
- Miasmatic study of M.M
- Relational Data base study of M.M. etc. He underscored the need to study the drug also from various (allied) branches viz. Psychology, Psychiatry, Biochemistry, Pathology, Physics, Biology, Mineralogy etc. He explained the doctrine of signatures through Bry, Bufo, Lyco, puls, calc, Natrum-m and silicea (an Example of the remedy ca...is.... in the MM section of this issue) Cactus is given:
Day 2: "Relationship of remedies." Dr Tarkas has formulated a lot of new relationships with the use of more than 50 word- a sort of reshuffling. Many of them are abstruse and need explanation. With graphs, Dr Ajit kulkarni justified the idea underlying the relation.
To illustrate:
Counterpart: mostly similar but opposite in some respects Lyco, is counterpart of Arg-n and Caust. This connects Arg-n, Caust. And Lyco with kali-c.
| "Miasms revisited" he explained the concept with a lot of graphs. | |||

Then he asked the participants to work out a case of allergic bronchitis from miasmatic standpoint.
Session "Psychiatry and Homoeopathy". Dr Ajit Kulkarni took a live case and discussed before the participants. The case was of cyclothymic disorder"(at least a 2-year h/o recurrent episodes of depression and hypomania). He gave features of grief sadness, misery, neurosis, anxiety depression, pyschosis, schizophrenia etc. and differentiated them from clinincal point of view. Several remedies like Aur, Nat-m, Caust, Staph, puls, Ars,. Lyco, Silicea, lac-can, were presented briefly in "Differential World of M.M"
The last session was on "Potency Selection". He presented his thesis in a brief manner.
The participants felt that two days workshop was too short to listen to this humble, dedicated homoeopath.
