Seminar On Mentals Of Metals
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1999 May / Jun VOL VIII NO 3.
Reported by
Dr Umesh Vanahalli
This seminar, on 11th April commemorated the 244th birth anniversary of our founder, was held at Khincha auditorium and organized by the Karnataka Qualified Homoeopathic Doctors Association. The inauguration was by the respected Justice Saldanah- whose speech was apt and full of humour. He stressed the need for Homoepathy to get its due place in society.
The Seminar was divided into three sessions and a panel discussion
Session 1 on Cobalt and Cadmium
Session 2 on Palladium and Magnesium
Session 3 on Ferrum and Potassium
The main speaker was Dr Parinaz Humranwala, Her presentation was excellent with clear expression, clarity and understanding of the subject. She took the delegates into the beautiful world of the mental states of various metals.
The understanding was presented through cases:
Case 1: Of a Palladium businessman, in which she showed how he behaved at home, not talking to anyone; but was different outside the home- free, sharing even his personal details with the doctor.
Case 2: Of a reckless teenage girl who got snubbed by her mother as she spoke out of turn, whatever she felt like speaking.
CASE 3: Of a small child evoked great interest. When the child was asked to sing a song, she sang: "Doctor and I went up the hill and the doctor fell down."
Most of the cases described were a repetition for those who heard her in Mumbai, Delhi and other places, but for those who heard her for the first time it was wonderful and instructive.
Magnesium- Mag mind develops when children are brought up in a house, where the parents fight without caring for children, when children feel neglected. She compared it to Karna of Mahabharata, his feelings when Kunti requested him to join the side of Pandavas, whereas, when he was born, she abandoned him in the river. One peculiar symptom of Mag-mur is palpitation better by movement; this was confirmed by Dr Patel's case as well.
Cobalt is generally used as an antidote to cobalt therapy especially in cancer cases but it should be used like any other drug on the constitutional basis. The case described was of a businessman having lumbago with modalities of Rhus-tox, but his mental state of guilt feeling guided her towards Cobalt, which promptly relieved.
Ferrum was compared to Margaret Thatcher's personality: Rigid, hard working, stiff, very positive, resolute, abusive: the rude iron lady. They feel they are right and everyone is wrong. But Ferrum-phos has forgiving and lively nature. Saddam Hussein was compared to Merc-Sol, who never repented killing his own relatives or damaging his country; who is spontaneous and strongly impulsive. Kali group is full of anxiety, worry, and embarrassment; with delusion of being arrested and doomed.
Many other metals were also discussed.
In the Panel Discussion Dr Narshimham laid stress on mental symptoms. Dr Patel added few important symptoms of the metals, not touched earlier in the discussion and presented some cases from old records.
