CODEX: A major threat to Health Care Freedom- Forthcoming Danger
National Journal Of Homoeopathy 1999 May / Jun Vol Viii No 3.
Reported By
Mitch Fleisher MD FAAFP is a board certified Family Physician, specializing in classical homoeopathic medicine, nutritional therapy and chelation therapy.

CODEX is officially known as the United Nations World Health Organization
Codex Alimentarius [Latin for 'nutrition code'] Commission, the select semisecret group that is empowered to establish worldwide standards for foods, drugs, vitamins, herbs, supplements, pesticides etc, including their manufacture, distribution and international trade. Over 90% of the international organizations 'allowed' to send delegates to the CODEX meetings represent the giant, multinational pharmaceutical corporations.

In Oct 1996, CODEX met in Bonn, Germany to formulate radical changes to the rules which govern dietary supplements for UN member nations.
The three German drug companies' proposals call for the following:

  1. No herb, vitamin, mineral, etc can be sold for prophylactic [preventive] or therapeutic reasons.
  2. Natural remedies can be sold as food, but they must not exceed the dosage levels set by the commission. This means that consumer access to dietary supplements will be limited to the RDA dosage as a maximum eg vitamin C -60mg. Vitamin E - 15 mg etc. Supplements will be limited to the RDA - Coenzyme Q10, glucosamine sulfate, chromium, selenium, bioflavonoids etc would be illegal to sell without prescription because they would all be classified as drugs.
  3. Any country that does not accept and apply these new standards would be heavily fined by the WTO creating the potential for crippling entire segments of that nation's economy.
  4. All new supplements would be routinely banned unless they underwent the CODEX approval process.
The FDA has clearly demonstrated its anti natural medicinal products position through its many notorious, quasi legal raids on natural health care product manufacturers and on alternative health care practitioners.
The FDA website regarding CODEX: www.fda.gov/ola/319.htm

Should this system be adopted in the US, the costs could easily be 10-20 times higher, due to the much larger American natural health care products market ie $7000 to $15,000 per DIN. CODEX and the FDA pose the greatest threat to health freedom in the world today. If they get away with the changes proposed by the Germans, you will no longer find the shelves of your local health food store filled with vitamins. What you will find is little besides only a handful of multi-nutrient formulas in OTC drug form.

Every voice raised in opposition to this impending tyranny plays a vital role in preserving our precious freedom of health care choice.
