Organon of Medicine is a vast subject. Every physician tries to explore it according to his ability and understanding capacity. To study Organon requires good knowledge of English. It is very difficult, especially for students, particularly for those coming from rural areas, to understand the Organon, through stalwarts like Dr Kent, Dr Stuart Close, Dr H A Roberts, Dr Sarkar, have explained Organon in very lucid fashion. To this end Dr P B Thombore has compiled this book " Gems of Organon".
He has divided the book into parts according to the ground plan of Organon. In each section he has added meaning and explanation of various words. He has tried to elaborate definitions of various words (eg constitution) along with comments of different authorities. Gist of each aphorism is given in a chart form at the start of each section. First each aphorism is stated and then the explanations are given. A ready reference to the aphorism is an added advantage. But it would have been better if the author had offered comments on the footnotes and the foreword. There are many spelling mistakes.
In spite of such drawbacks this book will serve as a good guide to the students studying for the exams.
I hope Dr Thombore will add more information and useful material in the subsequent editions of the book for the benefit of the physicians.
