CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

Palladium in Comparison
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1998 Sep / Oct VOL VII NO 5.
Dr [Mrs.] Sayali Prabhu

Editor's note: This article was received on 26/9/98, by which time precious metals Issue had gone for printing on 15/9/98. Palladium MM was not covered so this is being carried in the DUB issue.

Palladium, as we all know, is a less known and rarely used remedy. It belongs to mineral kingdom resembling Platinum in colour and ductility.
The dictionary meaning is 'A statue of Pallas, on the preservation of which, the safety of ancient Troy depended'. So, a safeguard.
Palladium was first proved and introduced to Homoeopathy by Dr C Hering in 1850.

If Platina and Palladium are seen together, both show little difference in their effects. But minute differences exist. Platina and Palladium both have a sensation of tallness. Both are proud and haughty. Both of them always think that they are tall and things around them are small and insignificant. Here Palladium also resembles Stramonium.

Platina and Palladium both have uterine bearing down pains, but this sensation of uterus coming out is more marked in Platina. Platina also has more effect on uterus while Palladium has marked action on ovaries especially on [R] ovary. Sepia and Lilium-tig also have bearing down pains, but Sepia is dull and indifferent, while Lilium is aimless, hurried and worried.

Palladium has a peculiar sensation as if an animal is snapping and tearing off small portions inside the abdomen. Remedies like Crocus, Thuja and Theridion also have sensation of something alive bounding about inside the body, but Palladium's sensation is snapping and tearing into small pieces.

Palladium has marked action on skin. Sensation of crawling as from fleas, especially on back, arms, thighs, ankles & abdomen. Actual fleabite-like spots seen with violent itching.

Along with the bearing down pains in abdomen, Palladium has great pain in abdomen, only relieved by heavy pressure. The patient asks another person to sit on her abdomen, which relieves the pain. This differentiates it from ovarian pains of Platina.

Palladium too is very rich in Mental symptoms.

  • Delusion as if she is neglected, insulted
  • Weeping and tearful mood
  • Ailments from bad news, egotism
  • Desire for company < alone
  • Anger, Discontented, Egotism, Irritability
  • Fear of evil
  • Hysteric, Haughty
  • Obstinate, Easily offended
  • Strong inclination to use forcible language and violent expressions
  • Mortification
