NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1998 Nov / Dec VOL VII NO 6.
Separate Directorate Demanded:
Dr V K Gupta, the newly elected president of the Indian Institute of Homoeopathic Physicians said to UNI after the XVII National Homoeopathic Congress, that the authorities should without bias give an opportunity to Homoeopaths to prove their mettle in tackling diseases whose character were changing over the years. In his view there was need to restructure the 51 units of the CCRH for making them result oriented. CCRH should identify urgently the thrust areas for conducting research in the context of the inability of the modern medicine to cope with bacterial and viral disorders arising from drug resistant strains of bacteria and viruses. Irrespective of the nomenclature of the disease Homoeopathy can effectively tackle such diseases including dreaded epidemics as the system proved itself in Surat Plague epidemic.
He emphasized the fact that Homoeopathy can easily tackle psychosomatic disorders, which are on the increase, as it believed in treating the individual and not body parts as the modern medicine.
He stressed the need for developing institutions of excellence in Homoeopathy through CCRH, by identifying areas where the different systems of medicine had their efficacy and patients can choose the system according to their need.
He also pleaded for constituting a separate directorate for Homoeopathy for its effective functioning, instead of the present arrangement of functioning under the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy. He also added that it was unfortunate that Central Govt Dispensaries are under the management of allopaths, resulting in step-motherly treatment to other systems of medicine and Homoeopathy. He called for extramural research by dedicated experts from outside the Govt for doing research in Cancer, AIDS, Diabetes and cardio-vascular disorders.
Dr Gupta said that the Indian Institute of Homoeopathy had decided to set up 'epidemic cells' for each zone in the country for tackling the situation arising in the event of outbreak of epidemics.
