Dr Parful Barvalia: Acute Diseases: acute diseases are transient explosions of the latent psora and though the patient may be on a constitutional remedy, an acute episode with its characteristic symptoms, demands the administration of an acute remedy. He demonstrated this with one of his Thalassemia cases who was on Manganum. However when this patient developed penumonia with pleuritic affection, a tubercular remedy like Phos had to be given. Dr Nimesh Shukla gave interesting practical tips on cough symptoms of various remedies:
- Imp Causative factors
- Cough resulting from gulal: Spongia
- Cough from sugar: Zinc.
- Imp Modalities
- cough ameliorated by drinking water = Causticum, conium, cuprum met,
- Cough of Rumex was agg just before sleep which differentiates it from Lachesis having agg after falling asleep.
- Concomitants:
- dryness of throat with cough would suggest spongia but cough with dryness of mouth would indicate Bryonia.
- Certain examination findings could also point to remedies:
- an elongated uvula indicates Hyoscyamus or Coccus cacti
- Cases of bleeding after curetting should be given Nitric-acid or Thlaspi-bursa-pastoris.
- Delayed labour: Belladona and Gelsemium were most useful. Gels has a sensation as if foetus were ascending but Bell would have a rigid effect.
- Mag-phos is the first remedy used in dysmenorrhoea. Has given her best results in patients with scanty menstrual flow.
- A live case of recurrent Malaria. The participants were asked to question the patient and derive the totality & the remedy. The patient had lot of suppressed anger following domestic problems. Had history of masturbation. Taking the fever totality into consideration, the patient was given Hyoscyamus.
- Dr Sheth also presented a case of diphtheria where he stressed that more importance should be given to the characteristic symptoms rather than the disease symptoms. Taking the following characteristics like shift of symptom from left to right, white shiny appearance.
Dr C C Desai spoke briefly on injury and its therapeutics.
Awards sponsored by Qutbi builders, in the memory of late Mr Ebrahim Sidhpurwal, were given to meritorious students.
