World Congress-A Report
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1998 Jan / Feb VOL VII NO 1.

A World congress on current research in Homoeopathy organized by the International Institute of Advanced Homoeopathy [IIAH], was held in the Science city, Calcutta between 7th and 9th February 1998. It was inaugurated by the Governor of West Bengal K V Raghunath Reddy. He also donated Rs 10,000/- to encourage research in Homoeopathy.
During the initial scientific sessions, the President of IIAH, Dr Parimal Banerjee and Dr Daga introduced the delegates to the new concept of Advanced Homoeopathy. According to this concept, there could be more than one disease influence affecting a patient at a given time, each acting on a particular physico-mental dynamic plane [PMDP], so that each PMDP requires one medicine.
The potency of each medicine also is fixed according to the type of symptomatology [eg: Arsenic-alb 6 for coryza and 200 for abscess, etc] This not only saves time from taking a detailed case, but also brings uniformity [specificity] in prescribing. A number of papers, which were presented during the subsequent scientific sessions, consisted of clinical cases treated according to the concept of Advanced Homeopathy. Dr Parimal Banerjee who sees a large number of cases a day, has arrived at this new concept after repeated clinical verification in his practice which now spans 4 decades.
Among other papers, Dr P K Sudhir of Salem in his research on cases of adenoids has found increased S. Calcium and lowered S. Alk phosphatase levels, a possible relation to the frequently indicated Calc-phos [40% cases]; Agraphis was also curative in 50% of the cases.
Mr Nishant, an internee from Bhopal, in his research has found that in bacterial infections, the medicine indicated according to the totality of symptoms also has control over the growth of the bacteria in vitro. He has coined a term "similibiotics" ie when the infected discharge was subjected to the action of the indicated medicine in a culture medium, the bacterial colonies failed to grow. In this regard, Dr Kasim Chimthanawala suggested culture sensitivity of the infected discharge with all probables and try with the medicine which has inhibited the bacterial growth the most.
Dr Parimal Banerjee in his paper on Carbuncles and its therapeutics has advised the following -Antim-crud 6 before carbuncle formation, Belladonna for severe pain with areola of redness followed by Ars-alb 200 and Lachesis 200 [either singly or in alternation]. Anthracinum 30 has action only on the necrosed parts. The wound is to be cleaned with Calendula 1x[5 drops: 50 ml dist H2O] and sprinkled very lightly with Calc-sulph 3x + Calc-fluor 3x [1:1 proportion] powders. The "Banerjee Dressing" consists of a thick pad with a concave surface kept over the wound followed by bandaging with gauze, so that the discharge/ oozing is not suppressed.
Dr Kasim Chimthanawala in his paper on environmental pollution drew the attention of the gathering to the involvement of the activated miasms as the fundamental cause for increased susceptibility towards the pollutants. Excepting for the very highly polluting areas, the rest of the cases of pollution hazards should be and are amenable to constitutional treatment complemented with yogasanas. Modernization has forced man to compromise on various fronts due to transgression of nature's laws and bringing in artificiality in life. This has stimulated the miasms to grow and evolve so that Psora which was predominant during Hahnemann's days has given way to the more life distorting organic miasms [esp sycosis] even by the time of Dr J H Allen and more so today. So, the solution lies in going back to the good old Nature's way of life -simple living and high [spiritual] thinking.
All in all, as there were many papers on the basis of Advanced Homoeopathy this new concept must have been unacceptable to the orthodox Homoeopaths, but this could be the possible explanation as to why and how even polypharmacy seems to work. The congress was well attended by some foreign 'delegates'; prominent among other Indian delegates were Dr Jugal Kishore and Dr D P Rastogi.
