CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

"I am allergic to odours..."
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1998 Jan / Feb VOL VII NO 1.
Dr Nina Doshi
'Dios

Mrs M came with pre-sternal pain on 10th Oct 1996.
Pain mid-sternum, radiating upwards, on sides and back. Acute since a week. Constrictive sensation with heartburn > when busy. A week earlier, she had had flatulence. She had a tight feeling in the lower abdomen, a crampy pain with restlessness, panting respiration. > vomiting < lying straight. agg by touch. A/F fasting.
She also had frequent headaches - right to left with droopy eyes; empty sensation, with desire to eat but no satiety. Pain in right deltoid > sudden jerking movement at elbow. Skin cracks < winter > rains, < summer.
Mentals
Feels bored to go to office, wants company, is friendly. Wants absolute peace and quiet. Anticipatory anxiety with frequent stools. Unsatisfactory, shy stools. Allergic to bad odours - garbage, etc. Smell retained for a long time, causing a tingling in the head, eyes and headache. She was short tempered and sensitive but did not speak up. Childless, 45 years and staying alone with her husband. Been working for 25 years. Suppressed menses - before Jan 28th 1996.
Describes herself as a workaholic with domestic worries. A perfectionist and a person who cannot keep things pending, she was invariably late for office and therefore lost her desire to attend office.

Past History
Skin problems before puberty with boils in the eyes and behind the ears; Koch's axillary lympth nodes (1976). Recurrent Paronychia. Tonsillectomy. H/O pulled ligament. Toothaches aggravated by hot / sour. Desires sweets, salt, sour, onions aggressive. A stauch vegetarian. Sweats all over the body. < cloudy weather Tongue - indented edges. BP 110/70 mm/Hg Dioscorea VI prescribed on the local physical generals of pain in abdomen.
10th October - Unsatisfactory stools. Plug like feeling in throat. Domestic worries.
22nd October - Sudden catch in left hand. Pain in shoulder. Sudden starting in sleep.
22nd November - Got her periods which lasted for days (after 10 months)
Red rash over arms, itching with dryness, belching with normal stools. Less anxiety now. 24th December - Improved in all respects.

Phatak writes on this remedy: Errors of diet easily affect them, feel cross, nervous and easily troubled. Any bad smell remains on the nose for long. Hurried desire for stool. Indolence - Loss of ambition.
Dioscorea was given for her constitutionally too as is apparent from the overall relief in physical as well as mental symptoms.
The symptoms for which Dios was given were her peculiar pain in the abdomen, flatulence, and recurrent tendency to paronyclia.
But when constitutional relief was seen, Phatak's MM was referred to and the matching of her other symptoms with the drug symptoms was astonishing to say the least.
