Dr H T Gholap - World's First PhD in Homoeopathy

The University of Pune has recently awarded the degree of "Doctor of Philosophy" [Ph D] in Homoeopathy - Materia Medica to Dr H T Gholap for his research work. According to the information available Dr Gholap is the first Ph D in Homoeoopathic Medical Science in the world.
Dr Gholap's topic was - 'Efficacy of Homoeopathic Medicines in Liver diseases/disorders with special reference to Infective Hepatitis.' He has been working on this topic for the last six years. During the course of this study he examined, investigated, treated and studied 156 patients. He chose this topic as, Liver is one of the most important organs of the human body. Complications of Hepatitis, if not treated in time may prove fatal. Liver transplantation is still a mirage. Moreover, whatever we eat, has effect on the liver. Majority of problems related to improper digestion are due to impaired liver functions. These problems are aggravated due to modern lifestyle consisting of minimum physical exercise, sedentary living habits etc. The no of patients suffering from liver troubles has also increased due to Alcohol and intake, epidemics of Hepatitis, unnecessary intake of hepatotoxic drugs etc.
'Another reason, Dr Gholap added, 'is that there is no medicine in other streams of medicines on the liver diseases. In Homoeopathy hundreds of drugs are effective in liver diseases. It was my endeavor to select a few specific diseases.' And he has become successful in finding out a few drugs giving good results. He said the following drugs are very much effective: Nux-vomica, Lycopodium, Sepia, Lachesis, Natrum-sulph,Chelidonium, Phosphorus, Bellodonna. Of course, these medicines should be administered on Homoeopathic principles.
Dr Gholap is practicing as a Homoeopathic consultant for the last 20 yrs. Along with his practice, he is also teaching and actively involved in social work. He took initiative in starting a public health programme in village "Solu" near Alandi, Pune. He has organized more than 25 health camps for the needy with the help of Lions club. He is also serving people at Sanjeevan Hospital located off Karve Road, Pun for last 20 yrs, and gives lectures in Homoeopathy for the common man.
In his long practice he has received good results in treatment of various Liver diseases - mainly Hepatitis, post hepatitis liver damages, hepatic damage due to excessive alcohol intake, liver cirrhosis, arthritis, indigestion, liver abscess, urinary calculi, nasal phlyp, DNS, asthma, allergy, chronic skin diseases, pica, stammering, deafness, middle ear infection, mentally retarded children, psychological problems, headaches, pralysis, chronic sinusitis, tonsillitis, piles, fissure, fistula etc.
Dr Gholap as the first PhD from Homoeopathic faculty, carries a great responsibility now. He should guide fresh graduates in Homoeopathy to establish as successful Homoeopathic consultants. He intends to continue research on various diseaes, herbs, animals and minerals found in India. He has an ambitious plan of establishing a well equipped Homoeopathic centre/hospital/laboratory to study the medicinal properties of herbs and minerals found in India.
