CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

A Rare Remedy for Toothache
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1997 May / Jun VOL 5 NO 3.
Dr Sonu Mehrotra
'Coccinella

I am practicing for last 10 yrs and have come across many cases of dental neuralgia, one of which is memorable. A lady aged 30 years, suffering from neuralgia of the right upper jaw since long and she could not get relief inspite of antibiotics and other allopathic medicines. She could not tell from which tooth the pain was emanating. She was having severe pain all over the right side of the mouth and was sleepless since 3 nights. I examined the location and found that there was no abscess of swelling. The pain was worse at night, extending to the forehead and there was a cold sensation in all teeth.

Merc-sol came to my mind first but it was ruled out since excessive salivation and spongy gums were absent. On referring to Boericke's Materia Medica I saw under Coccinella that this medicine is indicated for neuralgia of teeth, gums and mouth, throbbing toothache agg at night and cold sensation of teeth; the most significant symptom which confirmed this remedy. I gave her one dose of Coccinella 200 after which the patient got complete relief and sound sleep.
