CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

NJH Seminar April 1997 Amravati
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1997 Mar / Apr VOL VI NO 2.
Dr Waqar Taji
' Ana / Phos / Aur-m

The NJH was invited on one day Homoeopathic seminar on Sunday, 15th April 1997 at TSH College, Amravati. It was organized as a grand finale to the birth anniversary celebrations of Master Samuel Hahnemann.
Dr Alka Rajpuria, official Amravati representative of NJH, was in charge of the programme and it was organized by Dr Tapadia-prinicipal of TSH College and held in the college premises. The speakers were Dr Vishpala Parthasarathy and Dr Nina Doshi from Mumbai. Seminar was well attended with approximately 170 delegates, most of them students. It began with garlanding and traditional lightning of the lamp. Time management was poor and the seminar began 1 hour late.

Morning Session: Case Taking
Dr Vishpala Parthasarathy in her introduction, explained about health, disease and treatment.
ACCORDING TO HER
Health = Equilibrium.
Disease = Dis-Equilibrium
Treatment = Righting the balance.
In a very clear and simple manner she explained how Homoeopathy provides that slight push which helps the organism bring about Equilibrium. She said symptoms represent the disturbed vital force, and are elicited through case taking.

Speaking on the theme of Case-taking, she actually laid out a clear blue print for case taking for more effective and successful management of cases. She stressed the importance of diagnosis and its role in prognosis, potency selection and dose repetition. Other aspects which were highlighted were: the importance of RAPPORT with the patients and the quality of a physician to be totally unprejudiced yet humane.

Drawing on her knowledge of Homoeopathy and case experiences, she went on to explain the methodology for working out the case. The components of analysis, essential totality, repertorial totality and the differentiation between the remedies along with the importance of understanding the underlying Miasmatic background, were explained in a lucid format with the help of cases.

She described six cases. The most outstanding case was of a young woman covered all over with Psoriasis, who after receiving a correct Homoeopathic remedy, Anacardium was almost back to normal in less than a fortnight. This speed of recovery surprised all. Second case was of Infertility in a young, slim fashion designer who received Phosphorus.

The analysis, the differentiation of remedies, the final selection and follow-up were taken up so systematically that it was very clear even to the novice.

The structural (graphic) presentation of cases was done in an artistic and innovative manner, covering all salient features, and making clear the evolution of the personality. Thus, the morning session covered almost all aspects of case taking and subsequent management. It was a masterly exposition of a subject which needs to be learnt from as many masters as possible. The talk was ably supported by some of the best slides ever seen.

Afternoon Session: Learning Materia Medica With Cartoons
In the afternoon session, Dr Nina Doshi presented a totally new and innovative way of learning Materia Medica through the Popular Cartoons - 'PEANUTS'. Through lively sketched transparencies, she explained how the dialogues and gestures of cartoons can be translated into various important Homoeopathic remedies like Verat-alb, Phos, Puls, Nat-mur, Aurum-met, Lach, Sulph. This imaginative way of learning was quite new for most of the delegates present. She also explained various important remedies through cases.
To make this concept clear I give one illustration from her repertoire:
Chart 1 Aurum-met.
