A Report on the 7th National Homeopathic Conference, New Delhi 11th & 12th Feb '97

The venue, the air force auditorium of the 7th National Homeopathic conference organised by the 'Research Society of Homeopathy' was conducive to our pure, unpolluted human friendly system of medicine. The conference was inaugurated by the vice-president of India Hon Shri K R Narayanan and Mrs Usha Narayanan.
The programme began with 'Guru Vandana' and Vande Mataram' followed by the welcome address by the Vice-president, who reminisced how Homoeopathy had cured him of stammering in his childhood and observed that Homoeopathy was the second largest system of medicine being practiced in India today. The Vice President on this occasion presented to Dr Hahnemann Memorial National award 1997 to Dr Girendra Pal of Jaipur besides honoring a number of renowned Homoeopaths from all over India. He released the book Rheumatism, Sciatica and Spondylosis' by dr Suman Dhama and Dr K P S Dhama and two books by CCRH.
The 1st Scientific session was on 'The Role of Homoeopathy in Gynaec and Obstetrics problems. This session was chaired by Dr B K Bhatnagar and Dr S Haque. During this session Dr Suman Dhama presented her paper on Menopause, which included Anatomical, Neurological, Emotional, Cardio-vascular, Endocrinal changes in this phase. She stressed the need for the doctor to investigate and examine the patient thoroughly and continue with periodic examinations until the woman had adjusted with the onset of menopause, and the treatment depended upon the fundamental miasmatic cause which could be either hereditary or acquired especially after marriage. The second speaker of this session Dr Sucheta Desai spoke on 'Hystera woes' Hystera is Greek for womb'. She presented four cases 1] Amenorrhoea of 4 mths. A/F of Mortification. Indignation. Remedy - Staphysagria 2] Anaemia Thalassaemic trait with irregular periods - Remedy Phosphorus.
3] Irregular periods in an Indolent female - Remedy Opium
4] Sever dysmenorrhoea in a Dominating, Haughty, contemptuous spinster - Remedy Platina.
She said that one had to arrive at the core the theme, the gist, feel the pulse and the pace of the remedy. Having done this just a single dose would set the ball rolling towards cure, no more repetition may be required.
The second scientific session on 'Lesser known Remedies' was chaired by Dr Hari Singh and Dr R K Kapoor. During this session dr Parinaz Humranwala in her inimitable style gave an audio-visual presentation of a case of 3 ½ yrs old male child where she prescribed Agaricus. She brought forth a facet of Agaricus, hitherto not very well appreciated ie 'Internal Restlessness' and 'Fearlessness'. The other speakers of this session Dr Subhash and Dr Anil Khurana presented papers of studies conducted by CCRH on Indian drugs like Cephalandra indica and Azadirachta indica.
The last and the most lively interactive session of the day was a panel discussion on 'Chronic Miasms'. The session was chaired by Dr R P Patel and ably conducted by Dr Miss K H Matani. The panelists included Dr D P Rastogi, Dr V K Khanna, Dr R K Kapoor, Dr R P Mishra, Dr Girendra Pal and Dr R Duney. The Chairman Dr R P Patel in his summation explained in a lucid manner what we mean by disease and miasms. The day's programme ended at 8 pm.
The second day started with the session on 'Role of Homoeopathy in Neurological Disorders'. This session was chaired by Dr V K Khanna and Dr R S Pareek. During this session Dr Kamal Kansal presented various clinical cases like 1] Peripheral neuropathy treated with Sulph 200.
2] Cubital tunnel syndrome treated with Lach 200 3] Tubercular Granuloma treated with Tubercular Koch 30 4] Trigeminal neuralgia treated with Verbascum 6 and Mezerium 30. Dr Naresh Arora presented cases of seizure disorders with causes like Cysticrosis, granuloma and cerebral calcification. The remedies prescribed were Stramonium, Cicuta, Vir, Artemesia vulg, Bell, Absinthimum, Kali brom, and Lachesis. Dr Manjeet Singh Oberoi, a neurophysician by profession presented various cases of neurological disorders where he had prescribed Homoeopathic remedies and relieved his patients.
The 2nd Scientific session was on 'Latest Research in Homoeopathy'. And was chaired by Dr R Islam and Dr R Dubey. Dr Praful Vijaykar presented his paper on 'Understanding the Human Constitution.' He presented his chart of the 7 stages of suppression and explained how Hering's law of cure can be scientifically seen to be coming true with a genetic constitutional similimum only. Dr R K Pareek ably aided by dr Alok Pareek presented a paper on 'Documentary studies in the management of Ecological Problems in Homoeopathy.' He started with a verse of Wordsworth and went on to explain the effect the environment and air pollution has on the human being and how Homoeopathic medicines selected on individual basis could help the patient. Shri H C Gupta and Dr Sunil Kumar of CCRH presented their papers on 'Standardization of Homoeopathic Drugs.' And Rare drugs and Reprovings respectively during the session.
The 3rd and final scientific session of the day was a panel discussion on 'Different methods of prescribing.' Chaired by Dr Jugal Kishore and conducted by Dr R K Manchanda. The panelists included Dr V K Gupta, Dr S Haque, Dr B D Patel, Dr P Panday and Dr R S Pareek. This session was lively and at times a little chaotic as there were some dissatisfied participants with unanswered questions and this left a slightly unpleasant taste in an otherwise sweet and friendly homoeopathic atmosphere.
The conference concluded with a valedictory address during which Ms Shanta Shastri, Secretary ISM and Homoeopathy in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, addressed the delegates assuring all help within the regulations. She presented certificates and momentoes to the committee members. The chief guest Dr Sudhir Joshi released a monograph on Hydhrocotyle Asiatica. The announcement made by Dr Anirudha Verma about the next conference being in Lucknow in 1998 brought the conference to an welcome end.
