CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

Letters to the Editor
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1997 Mar / Apr VOL VI NO 2.

Points to Ponder....... a lighter side
It is over two centuries old and Homoeopathy is still an empirical science. On theoretical grounds it has no scientific recognition, may be because the efficacy of the medicine is experienced by the susceptible [the sick] who perhaps cannot rationalize and systematize it. [But as soon as they get in touch with Homoeopathy, they are lured by the attractive claims made; so much that they get addicted to an unending faith and hope and are not prepared to believe that no other pathy is as ridiculously uncertain as this one. Even the most experienced physician cannot guarantee the cure of a single symptom.] And it is not experienced by the healthy who can properly investigate and give it a footing in the scientific world. Not for recognition, but for the surety in success.

Hence all through this time, Homoeopathy is expanding in the literature side only. The same materia medica is being rewritten with different titles - Keynotes ...red line symptoms...black letter symptoms....guiding symptoms.....plastic medicines.....psychic medicines. And so it is with the clinical therapeutics - innumerable diverse experiences, lesser writings, magic of minimum doses, etc. There are synthetic and analytical repertories. Literature architects aren't they?

Inspite of the fact that due to the vagueness of science and uncertainty in results, Homoeopathy is looked down upon, ridiculed and shunned, yet it is adopted by three kinds of people. First ones are as described above [who love philosophy and literature]. The second ones adopt it for a living or for doctor hood. They have in their clinics, Homoeopathy, with all other glamour - saline, minor surgical facilities, gadgets, computers etc. all new and old cases are dealt with here.

Actually, all acute problems require a strict physical, mental and moral hygiene and regimen, which may help one come out of it, more than an additional trouble in the form of a Homoeopathic remedy when one is already fighting with the disease. To add spice to it, most acute problems are self limiting. How about giving polio vaccine when the child is suffering from it? By the way, all vaccines are Homoeopathic in nature [nosodes]. That way a person is immunized against a disease to build up resistance to lead a healthy life. Even the Ayurvedic liver tonic cures liver homoeopathically, alcohol [Q] being administered in small doses! Any way....

The third type, are individuals who are more in need of patients than patients might need them. Homoeopathy is their faith, love, guiding principle and hope; they would strongly cling to it, whether asked or not, ever eager to get down someone's throat not only the medicine but the principles and miraculous history too. (All other 'paths' - allopaths etc, seem to be quite matter-of-fact always). Be it any trouble concerning diet hygiene, social or family circumstances, they would try to correct it with a remedy.....every situation reminds them of a remedy. As though they are out on a welfare mission - 'Homoeopathy the only hope!' How disgusting! It's everybody's pathy - no restriction, no binding. And most of them practice it with their own wonderful understanding of the theory. Even some single remedy doctors are well off, with their - 'Shape yourself' or " Have a boy or a girl " kind of clinics. Some charge for it. Some do not. But what can we do? The literature is so fascinating to read. When an endocrine gland is partially indurated or inflamed, the results may be infertility, obesity, emaciation. Now if a remedy can remove this induration [or cysts, tumors if any] or cure inflammation or restoring soft and healthy tissue, normal secretions can be had and this would bring back everything to normal. But practically in all chronic cases after the use of one remedy another is most likely to be indicated and the cure is not complete till this is keenly observed and wisely and patiently treated.
