Dr Vishal Sheth dealt with the topic of diarrhoea and dysentery presenting three cases. He discussed the case of a fifteen year old boy having recurrent attacks of diarrhoea and dysentery where the stools were watery and mixed with mucus and blood. There was colicky pain in abdomen before and during stools. History showed that the child suffered from indignation and a feeling of neglect due to constant comparison, between him and his younger brother, by his parents.
Past history revealed suppression of skin disease and also itching and burning of soles at night for which he had been treated by allopathy.
Other prominent features were:
1] Aversion meat
2] Craving for sweets, cold drinks and salty food.
3] Tendency to aphtace in mouth.
Calcarea-sulph cured him.
Importance of specifics and nosode in the treatment of diarrhoea was stressed.
Dr C C Desai gave the benefit of his vast experience in the form of simple guidelines and clinical tips to handle cases of acute colicky pains.
Dr Anwar Ansari, while speaking on hospital emergencies outlined the importance of objective signs and their interpretation in relation to the pathology and illustrated with cases which helped participants to understand the evolution of Opium personality.
Dr C M Menon discussed Bronchial Asthma stating the repetition of doses does not always necessarily cause harm but he stressed that doses should not be repeated once improvement begins.
Dr M S Hakimji, who shared his experience in the treatment of infectious diseases and malaria, strongly suggested that these diseases especially acute cases of malaria could be treated by Homoeopathy without any allopathic intervention provided the symptom totality matched that of the drug.
The workshop concluded with a panel discussion and active involvement from both speakers and participants. Bowing to the enthusiasm of participants, another workshop shall be held by the end of this year.
