Your Ear issue was quite stimulating more for what it did not say than for the positive writings. No article on ear can be complete without recounting the famous story of the French satirist, Anatole France, where the hero marries a pretty woman, only to realize , somewhat late that his wife was dumb. A surgeon operates on her and restores the power of speech. The bride had bottled up many things in her 20 years of life and now let forth a torrent of speech which appeared to be endowed with perpetual motion. Maddened by the torrent of decibels, the hero runs to the surgeon and pleads for restoring the brides status quo ante or else he will go mad. The surgeon pleads his total inability to do so : so they strike a compromise and the surgeon blasts the heros ear drum making him stone deaf like Beethoven in his later life. The hero now faces his beautiful wife with a beautiful face and the decibels bombarding him fall off him like grape shots against the hide of a rhino. He presumably lived happily thereafter.

But what about those who are born deaf-the congenital cases? We know of one disease that is capable of damaging the hearing at the fetal stage. That is Rubella, the German measles, Morbillinum the nosode of our common garden-variety of measles - a more virulent species has a specific effect on the ear. These are acute, sub-acute or chronic ear discharges as a sequelae to measles and gradually leading to impaired hearing. Antibiotics fail, they suppress, but symptoms reappear and ultimately the patient goes under the surgeons knife. I am yet to see a case of restoration of hearing after surgery. Like the hero of Anatole Frances story the surgical cases become permanently deaf.

I therefore propose for the edification of my fellow Homoeopaths the following therapeutic pointers :.

  1. If there is sub-acute or chronic middle ear discharge suppuration with or without history of measles, Kali-bich 30 and above in frequent doses over a prolonged period interpolating Morbillinum, not only cures the suppuration but also restore the normal hearing.
  2. In all cases of deafness, partial or total, Morbillinum or Rubella may be used in all potencies up to CM at ling intervals.
  3. Thiosinamin 6 or above is a near specific in hearing impairment with or without tinnitus in the aged elderly, it must be repeatedly daily for long periods.
  4. For suppurating/ haemorrhaging ring hole, particularly the second one taken after the girl has grown up, (Very few tiny tots develop suppuration when seasoned goldsmith does the job with a copper wire), Staphysagria (jagged wound), Hypericum, Crotalus horr have proved curative.
  5. Cracks behind ears, in folds, eczema and fungal patches are stubborn conditions, but respond to Graphites, with thuja and Bacillinum intercurrently.
  6. Children who wake up screaming in their sleep would go to sleep within minutes if Capsicum high potency is pushed between the lips at 10 minute intervals. In 20 minutes the child is already asleep. In this situation, it is certainly the mastoid, and not the abdomen which is the source of pain. A smart tug at the ear lobe or a light pressure behind/ below the ear would elicit a scream and confirm the diagnosis. The authority for this specific prescription is none other than Dr. Roger Schmidt. I have never failed even once.
  7. Has anybody come across a case of aural vertigo and tried Crotalus-horr or Proteus ?.
  8. Capsicum (high) has been clinically tested by me in pain-ear-air travel in (even when pressurised) in international travellers when one patient forgetting to pack the medicine and suffering severe pain between Bombay and Chicago, but was happy in earlier and later flights over the same route. She was over 60 at that time.

Those who are interested can look up the early volumes of Dr K.S. Srinivasans Quarterly Homoeopathic Digests- late 80s and real how one keen Homoeopath of Chennai, Ms Mabel Arul saved an international traveller from surgery on his ear for persistent severe pain following a flight, using 10 M of Capsicum and gave it the day before the date of surgery. The surgeon lost his fat fee and the patient saved his hearing. She had read in an earlier issue of the Digest, my clinical advice on the use of Capsicum in pain-ear following air journey.

The issue of NJH is packed to overflowing with repertory rubrics and what the old masters did. With the largest population of Homoeopaths in the world New Masters should venture into this most intricate of sense organs. Yes,believe me, Homoeopathys potentialities to handle, and cure most ear disease keeping at bay the dark shadow of surgeons knife are vast. The latter is often more destructive than the disease left untreated.

I was eagerly waiting for the Ear issue. Yesterday,I saw. it was very happy to read that, you are awarded the prestigious "GREAT MASTERS AWARD" I congratulate you on this achievement.

After going through the Aurangabad seminar report I found that Dr C H Asrani who delivered a very nice, elaborative lecture on " Bedside manners for doctors" and who carried over the seminar environment created by you and Dr Rashmi Nagar successfully was not mentioned.

I request you to kindly add Dr Asranis name in the report and publish his creditable work of giving practical hints to you budding Homoeopaths.

I have not received the first two issues of 1996.

EDITOR : Our readers tell us to report NJH Seminars in report section and of course we do each time, But why nor come FIRST-HAND if you can. Next year we will have a two-day Seminar so outsiders can come too.

EDITOR

THE FIRST EVER MAILING directly from Milan office on 20-11-96, IM Potence issue reached 100 percent subscribers. But a small goof up by post office who wrongly informed us about postage amount. So some of you had to pay a small amount ! But may be this ensured 100 percent delivery. Should we then stick to this system ??? Okay, okay just an idea!! Dont panic! I have had many letters saying, we had to pay Rs 2/4/6/etc. and it should not happen again. But think how many complaint letters you will save!!.

Hope you all are coming to the SARLA SONAWALA MEMORIAL SEMINAR on the 5th Jan97. See if we speak as good as we write.

This seminar is unique in two ways :.

  1. It is the First-ever homoeopathic seminar dedicated to the memory of a Contemporary Homoeopath.
  2. Combines CLINICAL MEDICINE WITH HOMOEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING - both aspects vital to the Homoeopath.

Are we serving a purpose with this Seminar ? Are we fulfiling a need ? We can only know if you come and tell us. So see you on Jan 5th... of course special rate to NJH family of Rs 150/ till 28/12/96 and spot registration 175/ ... and we will give you lunch too ... we always look after the brain and the brawn too you felt about the Seminar.
