Seminar reports

On 3rd and 4th August 1996 IIHP organized a clinical meeting at Lonavala. It was a business cum pleasure trip.

The eminent speakers were Dr Anil Bhatia, Dr P Vijaykar, Dr Kishore Mehta, Dr Purswani and Dr Sucheta Desai. Dr K N Kasad was the Chairperson and Dr Parinaz Humranwala was the moderator. The topic of discussion was "Repetition of Dose".

Conclusions of the discussion :

It was mentioned that a single dose of medicine should be allowed to exhaust its action before it is repeated. However in chronic pathological cases and in patients taking allopathic medicines simultaneously, medicine can be repeated till the vital force is aroused. Once the reaction is established, medicine should be stopped.

One must know the source from which medicine is extracted; eg, Plant kingdom remedies have little depth of action, hence they can be repeated frequently. Metals take longer time to acts as compared to inorganic salts, so repetition should not be too fast.

If a drug requires too much repetition it may not be the similimum. It was unanimously agreed that the medicine should not be given during aggravation time of symptoms. It was advised that to avoid unnecessary suppression and to allow frequent repetitions, 50 millesimal potencies should be used.

The response of the meeting prompted Dr K N Kasad to comment that he had never experienced such lively interaction between the audience and speakers in his 30 years of practice. The listeners enjoyed the grand monsoon session, wherein we drenched ourselves in the rain of knowledge.
