Iron contributes in building up a peculiar personality. An iron woman will never bend or break although she can rust gradually, becoming anaemic or an emaciated. A piece of iron when hammered will keep expanding but never break.

We get iron from our food which includes green leafy vegetables and fruits particularly fenugreek and mint. Mango, apple and dates are the richest sources of iron. Pulse especially soya beans, black beans and grams contain sufficient iron. The fenugreek, corriander and tumeric also contains sufficient iron. but unfortunately most of the iron gets destroyed while cooking food.

The iron in natural form increases the stamina and strength. In olden days our great grandmothers would insist on frying dal with a iron spoon or vegetables cooked in pure iron utensils. The use of irons Mortar and pestle for the purpose of making home remedies by the process of repeated hammering was also in practice.

The sick iron personalities who need iron are oxygenoid constitutions in whom, emaciation and inflammation are marked characteristics. The iron individuals are pale and anaemic with disposition to langor and rest. Rheumatic ailments such as sudden pain in shoulder with restlessness of the affected limb respond well to Ferrum metallicum.

Here I would like to share my experience of iron which helped a case of Asthma.

She was 28 years old, lean and dark. After her first delivery, ten years ago she developed this problems, simultaneously with bleeding piles. She visited us on 23-7-94; Dr. Shahida Baig, my wife, took the following details :.

Recurrent cough and cold.
Sneezing with watery discharge.
< cold fruits, <cold things.
<warm room.
Asthma daily <3 a.m.
Asthma >open air.
Aggravating factors - smoke ++, Dust + (and bleeding piles rich food).
Feet become cold with fanning, then pain.
Heaviness in head and vertigo.
Menses regular with bearing down pain.
Patient bold and confident with little anxiety.
General modalities - warm 3 + chilly 2 +.
Family history of asthma.

She was prescribed Phos by her, which gave her some relief and that was reason she kept on coming for many months till we got her prescribed Sepia, Kali carb and many others, but they helped in just reducing the intensity of her suffering.

One day she came in a state of severe asthma; it looked as though she would faint but by sheer will power she managed to keep going. A flush in her cheeks and the excoriating nostrils attracted my attention. Her nasal discharges were responsible for the cracked nostrils, she revealed. O/E Thyroid enlarged. She was very weak but was applying her will power to hold her up in the clinic. She was <cold things; < night and sep after midnight aggravation from dust, smoke and in warm room., when as amelioration in open air.

I prescribed her Ferr-iod 30/2 doses which finally cured her in every respect. Here no Repertory was consulted, only the essence of the remedy was applied.

Reference : Kents lesser writings and Phataks Materia Medica.

The most important part of this case was the causation that all her sufferings had started after the first labour where she had lost her vital power.
