Make-up And Action: Subacute catarrhal-paretic states (in ocular, respiratory, cystic and
secondarily in gastro-intestinal tracts) in -Fat, sluggish persons of lax fibre (tissues);
plethoric; phlegmatic; reacting imperfectly to colds; fat, chubby children; such old
people. Or, thin women retaining a good deal of spiritliness and moral power.
Generally warm-blooded, like open air and less covering; burning in air - passages, in
urethra when not urinating or before, during after - urinating.
Profuse, clear, stringy, albuminous secretions.
Dropsies.
Injuries: Sprains, bites of angry animals. To eyes.
Mind: Anxiety (only) about ones condition; with cough. Usually cheerful and playful, yet
easily irritated. Very irritable, quarrelsome, despondent; especially forenoon. Suddenly
remembers visits of yore to negligible regions.
Head: Vertigo with roaring in ears. Heaviness, dullness with pressure and weakness in
eyes. Painful shocks through head on coughing. Headache: ext. into eyes, > cold
applicaation., cool air.
Distensive, bursting pain; in forehead. Pain in temples.
Eyes: Catarrhal (paralytic) conjunctivitis. Blepharitis, lids dry and crusty. Dryness;
with sensation as if too large for the orbits. (distensive pain) after eyestrain, stitches
(r) when coughing (in flu). Hypopyon (after iritis) in scrofulous subjects. Extravasation
of blood on retina after inflammation.
Muscular asthenopia (???); with flickering and lachrymation (needing frequent wiping).
Paralysis of upper lids, ptosis or staring. Loss of power of 1) superior rectus and other
branches of oculo-motor nerve; of recti and oblique muscles, esp. superior; of 2)
oculo-motor nerve.
Opacity of cornea, of vitreous Vision: Objects look shaded. Bending head backward >
ptosis, diplopia, hyperphoria (i.e. difference of level of two eyes). After lens removal
(or trauma) to clear up dim vision; for absorption of retained lens pieces.
Ears: Warmth or coldness in R. Humming in. Pain (R) when chewing. Stopped feeling.
Hearing painfully sensitive (acute).
Nose: Sneezes so violently and often that head grows heavy and dizzy, followed by coryza
of thin, water mucus, coryza, commencing with a feeling as if red pepper were pushed in
nostrils and in air passages, followed by a distressing cough. Sneezing attacks after
(whooping) cough with stitches in temples and chest; nose stuffed up with mucus; in a calc
carb girl.
Smell as of a malignant ulcer before nose.
Face : Flushed, from coughing. Heat and hot sweat. Burning vesicles on lips and
commissures. Puffy and rather bloated. Paralyzed sensation (1).
Teeth: Sensitive to sucking cold damp air. Burrowing pain.
Mouth : Slimy or dry. Scraping in mouth, throat and chest < talking. A peculiar
tingling in tongue. Taste coppery, metallic.
Throat: Burning, with rawness, when hawking, as if the membrane were abraded (eroded).
Catarrhal inflammation (sore throat) with burning, scraping, hoarseness, or dry, with the
same scraping. worse talking. Better (warm drinks). Roughness, < evening, with dry
cough and oppression of chest.
Oesophagus : catarrh; irritation, roughens; burning; abraded feeling; structure.
Stomach : Nausea; with salivation; after dinner, during siesta. Gnawing before a meal.
Irritation of gastro-intestinal lining, with vomiting, colic and diarrhea.
Abdomen: Rumbling. Colic during dinner, > after loose stool; with irritability and
flatulence; aggr. evening and rest. Sudden pressure in R. side of abdomen and chest,
evening. Pains (boring, shifting) in umbilical region.
Rectum: Tendency to diarrhoea; alternating with respiratory catarrh. Pulsating pressure
after stool.
Urinary: Catarrhal cystitis; old people. Irritable bladder; frequent urination, copious or
scanty. Spurting from coughing. Scalding before, during; after urination. Urine
diminished, loaded with shreds (threads) of mucus; foamy when cold.
Male: In glans cramp like pain, tickling, burning erections painful.
Respiratory: Catarrh of larynx, stinging pain, vocal cords partially paralyzed, voice
unsteady, hoarse, husky, thorax feels too narrow (stricture), < suddenly when reading
aloud, after coition. Aphonia; of singers with severe burning; hawking often; from severe
cold or overuse; even whispering is painful.
Old asthmatics; with congestive attacks; wheezing breathing and cough are < motion,
ascending, walking against wind. Hard, loud, accelerated breathing with anxiety.
Emphysema.
Bronchial catarrh with sore chest walls to touch, much tough mucus but difficult to raise, breathing oppressed, heaviness, dyspnoea and oppression, or chest feels too narrow; coarse rattle. Chronic, after Bry. stage or it failing; tendency to leave sore and tender spots (like on inflamed areas.) Asthenic bronchitis of old people, with chronic interstitial nephritis or chronic emphysema. Winter Bronchitis.
Chest colds of aged in cold weather (Ran-b), burning in respiratory tract before or
after coughing.
< touch, motion, deep inspiration, pressure on chest as though the lungs were forced
back to spine, < moving, ascending or coughing; as of crushing weight, or weakness
starting from chest. Soreness, < coughing remaining after a (chest) cold (Ran. b); in
spots. Shifting pains.
< stooping, stitches.
Congested lungs. Pneumonia, catarrhal; pleuro-pneumonia; R to L; pain cough and breathing.
< motion (like Bry), pain on waking at night, < rest and pressure (unlike Bry) > walking in open air. Extreme exhaustion. Low fever. Violent stitches, or burning, rattling oppression.
Pleurisy : Chest walls sore from coughing, sneezing, breathing, < rest, moving arms. Tightness and oppression. Pains appear to be more superficial in the pleura. Violent stitches < deep respiration or coughing. Crawling in pleura. False pleurisy.
Cough: hacking; incessant; choking - strangling; shaking the whole frame; ends in sneezing as in a common cold; < in morning while dressing and before and during breakfast and not at any other meal, in evening, in a warm room, in open or cold air, in drafts, lying on r. side (unlike Bry); from tickling and burning in larynx; with coppery taste; trembling. Cough, stays after flu, in an aged whose winter coughs were here before > by Bry. now < in cold air, midnight to morning, mouth gluey, throat feels narrow or closed (choking) with morning aphonia and restlessness, > drinking water, lying on l. side or sitting up; expectoration difficult, gluey, loose, faint, hacking coughs.
Expectoration difficult; thick, copious, ropy, gluey, albuminous, clear mucus like white of an egg, blood-tinged, may even slip back.
Hydrothorax. Oedema of lungs.
Oppression of chest, in open air, rest or walking; with orgasms. Tightness.
Phthisis mucosa: sore chest walls, pressing in chest as if backward. Laryngeal phthisis.
Heart: Burning. Violent boring pain in precordium. Pains < deep inspiring, walking. Violent beating of heart; with orgasms. Palpitation. Some cyanosis. Signs of failing heart early; R. heart begins to dilate and a definite generalized edema of lungs appears. (Pathologically however pulmonary edema - due to L heart failure - develops first, then R. heart failure).
Back : Distensive, bursting pain, on coughing; also in lumbar or renal region. Pressing between scapulae, esp. when stepping hard on motions which may cause (pain in) the chest. Pain under (R) scapula, when coughing; under (L) when sitting.
Weak back, deficient muscular strength.
Extremities : Joint pains, rheumatic complications of sore throats. Trembling arms, jerking during siesta.
Skin : Sudaminous rash (sweat rash) with profuse sweating.
Thermic : Shivering; over back.
Hot sweaty skin, high temperature, with hot sweat; face (l) red hot, covered with hot sweat, weak burning eyes, pulsating headache, dyspnoea, stitches in chest, heat between scapulae, soreness.
Also cold sweat, esp. on upper part of body.
Low fever; during (after) pneumonia.
SLEEP: Sound, stupefying or restless, full of dreams.
Relations: Compare. Caust. Phel, Phos, Bry is in an earlier stage.
