CASES MATERIA MEDICA GENERAL ARTICLES ABSTRACT MISCELLANEOUS Q & A

The Healing Process
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1996 Mar / Apr Vol V No 2.
Chetna Shukla.

J Francis Leddy, President - university of Windsor says -

"If there is a soul, you are not going to see it.
You are not going to find it."
"If there is a principle of vitality or life,
What is it?".

The problem is that "the soul does not exist anywhere specifically, geographically. It is everywhere and yet it is nowhere in the body.".

This soul, the vital principle, the vital force is the animating and controlling force in living things which is distinct from chemical and physical forces. Regarding this vital force (VF), Dr. Hahnemann quotes in 15 of the Organon:.

"The organism is indeed the material instrument of life, but it is not conceivable without the animation imparted to it by the instinctively perceiving and regulating dynamis, just as the VF is not conceivable without the organism, consequently, the two together constitute a unity.".

That is, there is no meaning to the concept of the organism being separate from the VF. That is, there is no meaning to the concept of mass separate from energy.

According to Ernst Stahl, the nature of VF is unknown and unfathomable. It is different from the thinking mind, but it is endowed with motion and sensibility. It has the power to maintain form, expansion, situation and tension in all bodily parts and to restore normalcy in case of disturbances in the movement and sensibility.

Thus, the VF has the power maintain form, uniformity and the ability to restore this uniformity in case of disturbance.

According to physics, the property of any matter by which it remains in a state of rest or, if it is in a motion, continues in the same direction and in a straight line unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force, is termed INERTIA, and is stated as Newtons First Law of Motion.

Newtons 1st law applies to any matter of nature. According to Einsteins equation E= mc2 and according to 15 of Dr. Hahnemanns Organon - there is no meaning to the concept of mass separate from energy, to the concept of organism separate from the VF. This universal law, thus, finds its applicability to the motion of the material organism animated by the VF, in life.

According to Newtons 1st law, life is a state of motion, in particular direction. Health thus is a state of uniform motion, continued in the same direction (as regards sensations and functions), steadily (in a straight line), unless it is acted upon by an external unbalanced force.

This external unbalanced force is the disease force in health and the medicinal force in the process of healing. Both these forces, the disease force and the medicinal force, are capable of altering the state of uniform motion in a straight line.

The disease force causes a change in motion as regards sensations and functions, the resultant being abnormal sensations and functions which we term as morbid signs and symptoms. When in this state of abnormal sensations and functions, the organism as a body has the tendency to maintain this state also (applying Newtons 1st Law) unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force, the medicinal force in this case.

Having understood the concept of health and disease, let us first understand about the medicinal force. This medicinal force is the small doses of potentized medicine.

Potentization is a mathematical-mechanical process which reduces, according to scale, the inert substance in a crude form to a state of physical solubility, physiological assimilibility and therapeutic activity. The process results in a quantitative reduction of the drug substance but a qualitative increase in its medicinal or therapeutic property. Potency is the term used to denote this quantitative reduction and a corresponding qualitative power of the therapeutic property of the substance.

Any medicated globule can be conveniently compared to a body with a force imparted to it by the process of potentization. This force is capable of a uniform motion like any other body as regards sensations and functions verified indirectly through provings. Like any other force, this force when applied to another body is capable of changing that bodys magnitude and direction of motion.

To ensure healing, we administer the medicinal globule on symptom similarity. Symptom similarity is the similarity in the direction of the forces as regards sensation and functions. The medicinal force is capable of a direction as regards sensations and functions similar to that which the organism has taken when disease force acted upon it to change its uniform motion.

What must be happening in the process of healing?.

The organism, a body, is moving at a certain momentum and the medicinal globule, a body moving at a certain momentum collide. (Momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body). On collision, Newtons Second law of motion, also a universal law, comes into action. According to law of conservation of momentum "If bodies are travelling in the same direction and there is a head-n collision between them, it is found that the velocity of one body decreases while that of the other increases. Thus one body loses momentum and the other body gain momentum.".

In the process of healing, the medicinal force loses momentum and the organism gains momentum.

According to the universal law of Nature 26 the medicinal force is of a greater momentum than the organisms VF, so the organism gains momentum and the medicinal force loses momentum.

Newtons 2nd law states- "The rate of change of momentum is directly proportion to the impressed force and takes place in the direction of the force.".

The rate of change of momentum of the organism is directly proportional to the quantum of the impressed medicinal force (the potency) and takes place in the direction of the medicinal force.

Thus, if the medicinal forces direction as regards sensations and functions is not similar to that taken by the organism as regards sensations and functions when a disease force acted upon it, then the organism will not be able to restore the original position.

Imagine the direction to be different, then according to the 2nd law of Newton, the organism will take the direction of the medicinal force and hence will have a totally new state of motion and the original will not be restored.

Thus, Newtons 2nd law also proves that the chief method of cure can only be Homoeopathic one -"The Law of Similars!"
