A Seminar on Homoeopathic Paediatrics was held on the 10th of March 1996 at Jaisinghpur, near Sangli at the Dr J J Magdum Homoeopathic Medical College, organized by the Sangli and Jaisinghpur Homoeopathic Medical Colleges. Dr Parinaz Humranwala was the speaker for the day. It was a day long seminar attended by 500 students and doctors. A laudable feature of the seminar was that it was held free of cost for doctors and students by the organizers, which is very heartening, because teaching should come free or subsidised and not exorbitant as is charged in major cities. After the formal greetings and garlanding of Dr Hahnemanns photograph, Dr J J Magdum who is the founder of the Homoeopathic College and on allopath gave a short speech on the benefits of Homoeopathy.
Dr Parinaz Humranwalas topic was "Paediatric case taking". She explained in detail the steps to be covered. She stressed that keen observation of the child, whilst hearing the mothers version of the childs complaints and giving the child freedom to move around, could give a clue to the remedy. Few examples are cited here.
If the child wants to be rocked violently, Chamomilla could be the remedy. If he wants a mild, smooth rocking-Pulsatilla should be considered. A Bromium child wants to be bundled could be Arsenic or Pulsatilla. Babies who hate to be bundled could be Medorrhinum or Sulphur.
The presence of toys in the clinic attracts the attention of most kids but their preference differs. For eg Pulsatilla child loves dolls and kitchen sets. Lycopodium child will like a business game. Toys with remote controls and fast movements are preferred by a Tuberculinum child. Belladonna loves to fidget with switches, torches and light related objects and play with balls.
Older children should be asked about their choice of subjects in school. Mathematics loves could be Lachesis, Nux-vomica, Crocus. Nux-vomica, Pulsatilla and Sulphur hate poetry in school. Natrum muriaticum loves history. Carcinocin loves geography. Lycopodium, Rhus-tox, Oleum-jecoris, Sulphur hate languages but perform well in other subjects.
In the second session, the drug pictures of Tuberculinum and Carcinocin were discussed.
Tuberculinum: A restless, always wandering, irritable child with fear of furry toys. He may by born with congenital anomalies. Hits, bites, an abusive and violent child. Prone to asthma from dogs hair; very cruel to animals, (Internally ear of animals) Teases people. Sleeps in knee chest position. Grinding of teeth and bedwetting.
Carcinocin: A fastidious, responsible and sensitive, child suggests a Carcinocin personality. This child usually has grown under strict parenting and hence he mimicks them. He behaves like an adult, appreciates classical music and dance. Great love of nature, always watches the Discovery channel on TV. Very sympathetic towards animals. Sleeps in knee-chest position and craves for butter, chocolates and cold drinks.
In the third session video cases covering Lachesis, Mercurius, Belladonna, Carcinocin and Tuberculinum types of children were shown.
The day long seminar in the Sugarcane growing area of Maharashtra was applauded by one and all.
