Hypertension:Naturopathic Treatment
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1996 Jan / Feb Vol V No 1.
Sayali Prabhu

Hypertension if treated before becoming chronic, complicated and without any pathological cause can be treated with the help of naturopathy. A combination of homoeopathy and Naturopathy. A combination of homoeopathy and Naturopathy does a good job in treating such cases.

Following steps are taken in this treatment-

  1. Change the outlook and life style-Hypertension is the result of a fast and busy life. Tension has become our friend in todays modern life. If the patient has a tense and irritable personality he should be asked to change his attitude and way of looking towards life. Becoming tense on least provocation should be avoided. A day in a week or better few hours a day should be spent as relaxation period in order to make the mind free of day to day worries and tensions.
  2. Diet change-It is wellknown that excessive intake of salt is the cause of hypertension. Actually, there is no need of salt in our daily food. The salt present in our vegetables and fruits is actually sufficient to meet our bodys needs.
The excessively salt in the diet is to be cut down. Use of pickle papads, potato chips etc. should be reduced. In the same way intake of high calorie diet should be reduced. Foods rich in oil, fats, carbohydrates should be avoided in order to reduce the obesity, as obesity is one of the indirect causes of hypertension.
  3. Stress on physical exercise_Daily exercise helps in reducing the Blood Pressure because it not only reduces the weight of an individual but also improves the blood supply, improves the heart function and all other systems of the body by increasing up the excretory capacity of the skin.
Exercise can be outdoor like walking, swimming, jogging etc. and indoor exercises like Yogasanas can also be preferred. The person should choose any of the above types according to his age, capacity and type of hypertension. Yogasanas like Padmasana, Dhanurasana, Matsyasana, and Shavasan are most beneficial ones. Yogasana like Shirsasana or Sarvangasana are strictly prohibited in which the body is held upside down.
  4. Giving up of alcohol and smoking.
  5. Magnet therapy-Magnetic wrist belts are effectively used. Right wrist is treated with northpole or both poles. Water treated with magnets can also be used. Application of north pole below right ear, on carotid artery for 20 min twice a day.
  6. Acupressure therapy-This therapy helps in reducing systolic Blood Pressure rapidly but the diastolic blood pressure comes down gradually.
Some acupressure points have been identified which should be pressed two to five times in a day. These points should be pressed rhythmically and firmly for I min the thumb in lying down position.
