My Experience With Hypertension
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1996 Jan / Feb Vol V No 1.

Some of the important remedies with very brief indicating symptoms are given below-

  1. When the cause is extravasation of blood brought on by least exertion and fatigue by intellectual labor resulting in the patient sleeping into aggravation Lachesis should be the first choice. Lycopodium and kali carb may be administered as intercurrent, if necessary.

  2. When the patient has a family history of attack of coronary thrombosis and poor arterial wall causing violent ablution of blood in brain in the evening, Thuja is the remedy.

  3. When lassitude, lack of inclination to work precede the attack, which is mostly sudden (Tendency to sudden and violent rush of blood to head and heart or irritability and excitement by opposition ending in congestive headache), Glonoine gives immediate relief.

In a monthly meeting of our Association of Homoeopathic Physicians, a reputed physician said that she had recently been shocked by the death of her very loving aunt. She had cried over the incident for a number of days but could not control herself yet. She had no inclination to attend the meeting. After the meeting started, suddenly, she became abnormal in her look and she began to sink with pain and pressure in the occiput and forehead. Another lady physician, Mrs Biva Kanjilal requested me for a remedy. Thinking of her recent mental shock I told her to give a dose of Natrum-mur 200 , But, Dr (Mrs)Kanjilal objected and asked why not Glonoine"? I felt ashamed in not thinking of the sudden attack following her reluctance for any work and the pain from occiput to frontal and agreed with D Kanjilal. The remedy Glonoine was given orally in 3x potency and within ten minutes. She became totally free from her indisposition an carried on the proceedings without any difficulty.

  4. natrum-mur is also a remedy for reducing high blood pressure with throbbing headache and palpitation of hear. Pulsation for general ablution of blood is felt over whole body in slightest movement. The cause of attack is suppressed anger. The patient must have craving for salt, and slough be of sentimental nature.

  5. Thuja is a remedy of continuing hypertension with frequent attack in persons having history of coronary thrombosis in the family.

I cured with Thuja a medical representative having frequent attacks of a feeling of violent ebullition of blood in the evening, only by seeing his extreme spend thriftiness, a prominent characteristic of Thuja.

  6. Besides constant brain work, either for studies, business and emotional disturbances also causes surging of blood to brain and decongestion of blood of head. Ignatia is a remedy for such cases, when the cause of attack is result of depressive thought due to emotions. disappointed prove, or such other grief. The patient is troubled with great heaviness of head, as if it were full of blood.

  7. There are some persons who can not give vent to emotional shock by crying or talking. This remains locked from rise of blood to brain, Gelsemium is the remedy for such persons who can not make mental release.

  8. Belladonna is a common remedy for sudden violent onset caused by rising of blood in brain with carotid throbbing and rendering the skin intensely red and hot. The whole brain and membranes are involved causing increased blood-pressure the headache is neuralgic increasing and decreasing. The patient moans and become delirious. Besides emotional disturbance, trouble is also caused by sun, summer heat, hair cutting, exposure to cold air and high fever. In modern medicine, the malady (Hypertension) is kept under control by regular intake of tablets. But the Homoeopathic remedy, if rightly selected, causes speedy recovery. I am citing two cases resulting in rapid recovery with the similimum.

CASE 1:

(My Own): I am aged about eighty two. A phlegmatic patient with a hereditary history of diseases of lungs. I had attacks of pleurisy in the past.

I mostly treat mental patients and sub-normal. children. I generally devote long hours in studies of materia medica and analysis of symptoms of patients.

A boy of about thirteen was brought to me with a complaint of watery discharge like tap-water running with force from his ear.

I began to study over the complaint for seven to eight hours at a stretch and found out the remedy tellurium. But I could not enjoy the joy of success for long as I fell down with heavy pressure and pain from occiput to whole of head extending over the eyes, I had no power to find a remedy for myself. The unbearable pain and partial loss of senses made me severely ill with a feeling of paralysis of the left lower extremity.

A local allopathic physician, a friend of mine, came to my rescue. He examined by pressure and detected the systolic pressure to be 200. He gave me an injection, some capsules and tablets to be taken hour after hour and advised me to take complete rest in bed for a week.

I did not feel any improvement and even with my severe pain I began to think that continued mental exertion must be the cause of my Hypertension. The remedy I remembered was lachesis with symptoms on left side. I requested my wife to prepare a dose of lachesis 200 for me and to give it orally.

The remedy made me fit immediately and the day after, I even went to see an ailing patient.

CASE 2:

The second case was of an old lady, who had been taking blood pressure tablets since a year or more. Her allopathic physicians advised her to taken the tablet everyday as long as she lives. On a thorough examination of the lady, I found he to be a chronic patient of Arsenic-album with evening flatus which probably was the cause of her hypertension, by exerting a pressure over her heart. Lycopodium 200 cured her within a week. Later on, the remedy with Arsenic-alb in alternation was continued for a few months.
