At one time my own favourite remedy for Hypertension was Crataegus which appeared to severe me well combined with the constitutional remedy, but for the last ten years my allegiance gas moved to Lycopodium IX tds I find that I need Lycopodium twice as frequently as any other in potencies from 200 to 10M.".

CASE 1:

R M aged 56, a lawyer who complained of redness, occipital headache, rush of blood to the head with confusion, dyspepsia and insomnia. Blood Pressure was initially 240/115 mm Hg. There was slight left ventricle hypertrophy and hydronephrotic kidneys. Blood urea was 35 mg / mg ml. Aggravated 4 to 8 p.m. , heat .warm good. uncovering: (Although he continued in a responsible job, and under Lycopodium given in ascending potencies from 200 to 10 M his Blood pressure came down to 180/100 over a period of 3 months and further subsequently.).

CASE 2:

A 72 year old gentleman had arteriosclerosis and high blood pressure 233/140. His doctor was called urgently at 9 am. The patient was sitting on the edge of the bed, stooping, with a red and swollen face, mouth open, with a besotted countenance, limbs cold and clammy, with a blanket over his shoulders. Very anxious, restless, tossing about with if cyanotic lips, he could hardly utter a word. One could hear a very rattling, noisy and panting respiration with spells of painful coughs with foamy secretion. Numerous rales. Whistling and rattling could be heard even at a distance. Gallop sound at heart, thready pulse at 130. He was literally at deaths door. He had dyspnoea, extreme oppression profuse perspiration over his face, white tongue, extreme weakness, and inability to lie down and collapse of his blood pressure to 150/90 indicated a very serious situation. The doctor dissolved some pills of Antimonium-arsenicum 30 in a glass of water with instructions to take teaspoon doses every 15 minutes and less frequently as he proved 1 M.

After two doses his breathing became more easy, could sit erect and said ":I feel better" Pulse rate dropped to 110, noisy rales much reduced. After 2 hours the crisis had passed off and the patient slept soundly.

Though the blood pressure rose to 250/102 next morning it later came down appreciably and the patient felt remarkably well.

CASE 3:

A woman of 53 years came for treatment of hypertension with severe headaches and cervical spondylitis. While describing her complaints the doctor noticed that the patient was finding it an effort to get her thoughts together. She could not sustain any mental effort as it together. She could not sustain any mental effort as it left her extremely exhausted. She took very long to answer questions (Rubric: Answers, reflects long) and would reply very slowly (answers slowly). She would want to say something but it would not come to her mind memory weakness for what one has first thought). She also gave a history of severe ill treatment by her in-laws which upset her a great deal and it continued to this day.

They would humiliate her in front of others (AILMENTS FROM also had nausea and vomiting during travel (nausea riding in a carriage_. Headaches were worse while reading, writing and watching films. The patient had this problem for the past 15 years for which she was taking allopathic drugs. At the time of consultation her BP was 160/90. In her own words "I think my headache is due to my nature of worrying getting upset very frequently and over exertion." She also mentioned that she had to look after her mother-in law who was very ill for 14 years.

She was given 2 doses of Cocculus 1 M on 6/3/90 and placebo thereafter. Allopathic drug was discontinued. Her condition slowly improved and headaches started getting less after 2 months and her mind started clearing up as well. When the doctor saw her last on 12/7/90 her BP was 140/80. -Dr Sunil Anand.

CASE 4:

Mr P G R consulted for renal failure with no hypotensive action to previously helpful hypotensive allopathic drugs. He was advised dialysis as an emergency measure. He was having breathlessness, occipital headache, was easily tired with no stamina for work. His libido was adversely affected with the previous treatment and there was nasal block, sleeplessness and palpitations at night. Chest x-ray and ECG showed left ventricular hypertrophy and strain. IVP normal.

His BP was very high 260/140 mm Hg. Blood urea 90. Serum creatinum 5.5 All investigations fro hypertension did not reveal any cognisable Aetiology. He was thirstless, hot blooded, mild and adjustable with no abnormal past history. Family history showed that both paternal and maternal side had hypertension and sudden deaths.

Treatment:

For first few months he was given Pulsatilla 200 to 10 M, once dose in 2 weeks. All allopathic drugs discontinued. On other days Aconite mother tincture medicated pills three times a day.

First two weeks no change; later his BP came under control to 140/90 mm Hg and stabilized at the level. Blood urea and serum creatinine became normal. He was able to attend to his work without fatigue. Enjoyed normal sex life He stuck to vegetarian diet and reduced his salt intake. Syphilinum 1 M to 50 M was given intercurrently and to close his treatment (Period of treatment not given).
