To what does the sea - the vast reservoir of water - owe its sound and fury?
Devoid of salt, sea may well turn as silent as a grave - no waves, no whirls
Widely distributed in nature - earth, water, plant, animal
Inherent in human tissues and fluids, hence vitally linked to soul
Salt seeks to emancipate mans ego from sea infinite of cosmic consciousness
To restore it to spiritual self as said Gospel - Ye are the salt of earth.
Man stood witness to his own evolution with wonder in his wide eyes
From pure vegetative existence to powers of will - intellect - memory
Keen perception of pleasure and pain, joy and grief, desire and ambition
As salt embraced organs of perception - brain and nerves
Secretion excretion like urine and sweat, humors of the eye
Tears - shed and unshed - bear testimony as true similimum.
In his flight upward to seek ones self - mortal immortal
Man must cast off all inhibitions - internal as well as external
A voyage dark - from alone to alone - needs to be passed thro
If unable to meet the demands rigorous of transition so long
Man gets disintegrated into fragments - one against the other
Giving rise to a pathology that may find a remedy in NATRUM.
As it emerges from mothers womb, newborn emits its first cry
Mothers milk and warmth make its life sound and secure
Nonetheless, parental conflict may write a destiny averse
Child lets go mothers breast with nursing mouth sore
Goes into marasmus with waxen face, scrawny neck and lanky legs
Refusing to grow he trips over, stutters, bites nails, wets the bed.
In confrontation eternal with father Victorian - stern and strong
Adolescent turns rebel against all authority and conventions Even though an awe-inspiring
father be his alter ego
Turns introvert, upper lip stiff - yet vulnerable to the core
Falls headlong in love, to elope or pine for lost love
To pay with headaches hammering - under sun and stress
Keen intellect, high sense of duty, idealism infused to the brim
A perfect recipe for success and achievement, content and comfort
Nei, NATRUM leads a life of clerk underdog in a dingy shop
Or be an unsung martyr for a cause ever so trivial
Memory that licks its wounds and scrapes its scars - indeed a curse
To cry in wilderness - "who talks of victory, to endure is all..."
With soul so sieged, can body ever remain unfettered?
Malaria inveterate, quinine abused, liver spleen choleric
Anaemia to leukemia, canker sores to cachexia, spasms of asthma
Migraine to hypertension, urticaria - eczema - herpes - psoriasis
Heart flutters in chest like wings of a bird caught in a net
NATRUM falls a prey to its own deeds - done and undone
NATRUMS is a woeful tale - of human bondage - as S. Maugham wrote
A Catch - 22 predicament wherein all guns turn to him alone
Grief and grudge from wrongs - true or imagined - of past remote
Torn by inner strife of dual existence - of repress and guilt
Life - merely an illusion he carries his cross with no reprieve
Forsaken by man and God, NATRUM delivers himself unto devil of despair.
