One Day Seminar at Vijaywada
The much awaited seminar at Vijaywada with Dr. Sarla Sonawala and Dr. Vishpala Parthasarathy materialized on 4th August 1994 and was certainly worth waiting!
This one day seminar was held by the Krishna District Unit of the Indian Institute of Homoeopathic Physicians of Andhra Pradesh branch at Hotel Illapuram, Vijaywada, Dr. M. Kutumba Rao, former Principal GGH Medical College, Gudivada presided over the function. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. John Appa Rao, Registrar of the University of health Sciences. DR. GLN Sastry was the Guest of Honour and Dr. Satyanarayana, the Chief Guest.
The scientific session commenced with Dr. Y.V. Rao, eminent cardiologist who spoke on Rheumatic Heart disease and the recent advances in its diagnosis. This was followed by a brief lecture by Dr. Sarla Sonawala, leading homoeopathy from Bombay on the treatment of "Growing Pains" with homoeopathy. She cited a number of cases focussing on the technique involved in arriving at the drug diagnosis with specific reference to the late Dr. M.L. Dhawales school of thought.
The highlight however was Dr. Sonawalas and Dr. Parthasarathys dialogue presentation of Sepia and Lachesis. Their unique presentation, lyrical form and slides gave the audience new insights into the characteristics of these two drugs which came alive on the dias.
The post-lunch session started with a brief introduction on nosodes by the Chairman of the session, Dr. GLN Sastry. Dr. S.K. Vashist of Hyderabad talked on certain pharmacological aspects of several nosodes in their origin and preparatory techniques. This was followed by Prof. N.S. Prasanth, Head of Dept. of Organon and Philosophy, JSPS Govt. Medical College with an enlightening lecture on the history of materia medica. He reaffirmed that "Tuberculin" is a broad spectrum prophylaxis of the present day.
The scientific session was finally capped by a superb presentation of five different nosodes which covered Psora, Sycosis, Pseudo-Psora and Syphilis in a most picturesque and memorable manner by Dr. Vishpala and Dr. Sonawala.
This novel and unforgettable experience for the Homoeopaths of Andhra Pradesh was very much appreciated and left all yearning for more.
THE EDITOR ADDS:
Dr. Prabhakar Murty - the little man from Vijaywada, has taken on himself the onerous task of bringing about a spurt, a tolerance, a commitment to Homoeopathy.
Earlier seminars were rarity organised in 1984 and 89. From 1993 he has decided to have biyearly seminars. Doctors from Bombay feature high on his list.
The turnout and the arrangements were impressive considering race, and the people were simple, warm and sincere. My apprehension of the intellectual reception while covering the evolutionary aspect of the mind with stress on the life situation and the mind and miasm was laid to rest. They listened patiently, even understood... how much indigestion, was caused, will remain anyones guess!
A number of remedies were presented - Sepia and Lachesis, Psor, Tub, Medo, Syph, Carc and even Magnesium. A number of philosophical aspects like relationship, miasms, prevention, planning and programme of treatment, the use of the repertory to narrow down to the group of remedies which then can be differentiated through the Materia Medica, understanding the evolution of the patient in his life circumstances were all discussed in the cases and the Materia Medica sessions.
After the one upmanship, the rudeness and complexity of Bombay and Delhi, AP with its simplicity, sincerity and easy pace won over our hearts. All in all an experience we will treasure. We too learnt about dealing with pandemics in which the prevention schedule of entire villages was practiced by Dr. GLN Sastrys BCT vaccine - (Belladonna - Calcarea- Tuberculinum) which in a certain schedule helps build up the resistance to fevers. A meeting at Hyderabad with Dr. Lakshminarayanan & his lovely warm wife were very stimulating obviously both ways as is evident from his rejoinder in this & the next issue.
