Is supposed to be a fish fossil. Fish are known to be rich in phosphorus, iodine and
sulphur. Should be considered when we are thinking of Sulphur, Ars or Phos.
Though lacking in finer discriminatory details (due to lack of provings), it should not be lost sight of as a close-up (especially renal and arthritic) of Sul and an analogue of Phos.
Eel-Serum
(Serum anguillar ichthyotoxin)
A renal emergency remedy. A close-up of and hence a specialized, more intensified Plb. Nephrocardiac situations of Plb patients may call for this remedy.
Acute (or subacute) nephritis from frigor (i.e. cold), infection, or intoxication with albumin or blood, ischuria, uraemia or even anuria; leading to renal failure or heart or liver involvement. Conversely too.
During heart disease sudden acute kidney involvement. Cardiac stage indicated by hypertension (and oliguria) but sans oedema (like Plb) and uremia.
Heart troubles, functional, secondary to renal mischief; like systolic insufficiency, decompensating valvular insufficiency, dyspnoea, oedema (or none); in particular with advanced nephropathies, oliguria (preparatory of renal failure) and not ruled out hepatomegaly.
At the present stage of our fragmentary knowledge of this remedy, we have to reckon (and not ignore) it as a pathological remedy. Deserves a proving.

Sycotic-co
The considerable research done by Dr. Bach and Dr. Paterson in analyzing the stool cultures of persons suffering from diseases and otherwise pointed out that a class of bacilli are associated with diseases. These were various types of non-lactose fermenting bacilli belonging to coli causing typhoid, dysenteries and para-typhoids. Although these are non-pathogenic and are normally incapable of giving rise to acute diseases or local manifestations, yet, due to persistent poisoning over many months and years, they become pathogenic. The change in bowel flora cause change in the health of the patient. After administration of potentised homoeopathic remedies, it was observed that the patients stool yielded a large percentage of pathogenic organisms; clinical investigations revealed an inverse relationship between percentage of such micro-organisms and diseases. The larger the percentage the healthier is the patient. The more chronic the condition the less organisms are found. It was also established that homoeopathic medicines activated the vital force to produce such non-lactose organisms are definitely related to disease symptom complex.
They also found that the bowel flora can be altered by diet, homoeopathic remedy and nosodes. One of the important bowel nosodes is Sycotic-co (Paterson). This organism is not of bacillary form but is a non lactose fermenting coccus found in the intestinal tract. Dr. paterson appropriately named this Nosode as Sycotic-co, as its symptomatology is very similar to diseases attributable to sycosis. Under sycosis, the patient exhibits different disease patterns depending on the vulnerability of the organs such as vertigo, nervous tension, chronic nasal catarrh, chronic cough, asthma, acute gonorrhea, urethral discharges, abdominal colic, anaemia, rheumatism, fig warts etc. By analyzing some of the sycotic cases, Dr. Paterson found different types of diplococcal organisms in different parts of the body which are specific to each parts. The nosode potentised from such cocci was named Sycotic-co.
The keynote of Sycotic-co is "irritability". It has an affinity for mucous and synovial membranes.
Mentals: Nervous irritability, punctilious, outburst of temper suggestive of Lycopodium. Fear of dark and of being alone. Chews nails and is in constant ill humour. Tearful, timid and hypersensitive. Nocturnal fright. Dreams of dead persons.
Head: Convulsions or epileptic forms of seizures. Irritation of meninges, subacute or chronic headache from infection of sinuses. Headache every fortnight especially frontal and congestive. Better by rest and heat; aggravated by noise. Persistent headaches, particularly in a child which may be a prodromal sign of tubercular meningitis (e.g. Helleborus). Profuse sweating of head at night.
Endocrines: Swollen face, big neck wit swollen thyroid, slight oedema of extremities especially of feet.
Digestive system: Lips dry and fissured. Tongue dry cracked and painful. Ulceration and warts on tongue. Chronic irritation of whole alimentary tract, catarrhal condition, acute or chronic gastro-enteritis in a child. Acid eructations and burning in stomach. Vomiting at night loose offensive stool, excoriating (like Medorrhinum). Urgent desire for stool as soon as rises out of bed. Diarrhoea common. Nausea aggravated after eating eggs (like Ferrum-met) and smell of cooking.
Respiratory system: Throat red and dry as if scalded. Enlarged tonsils and adenoids in children. Acute, sub-acute chronic bronchial catarrh of mucous membranes of nose. Inter-costal pains. Fibrositis of thoracic walls. Pain in the region of left shoulder blades with rales on upper base of lungs. Pleurodynia. Irritable cough at night at 2 a.m. and while waking up Fits of spasmodic weakening cough. Asthma and bronchitis aggravated by humid weather and during frost. Better by seaside.
Nose: Pains in the frontal and maxillary sinuses. Coryza. Dryness of nose with crusts. Epistaxis. Sense of smell diminished.
Eyes: Photophobia. Irritation of the conjunctivae.
Ears: Yellow discharge and dimunition of hearing. Fissures behind the ears.
Neuro-muscular System: General rheumatic fibrositis worse in damp and after a period of rest (if Rhus-tox). Feet painful when walking. Stiffness of neck, shoulders and back. Persisting intense pain in the lumbo-sacral region. Pain in hips. Ameliorated by heat and movement. Pain in wrists, hands and fingers.
Skin: Sallow complexion, oily skin. Vesicular or varicular eruptions on face and body. (Paterson says that after administering of Sycotic-co to children an eruption similar to Chicken pox may appear). Flat warts on hands and feet. Fissures on finger tips and heels.
Genito Urinary Tract: Marked action on entire tract causing irritation of mucous membranes from kidney to urethral tract: albuminuria, a common complaint in children, responds well to this nosode. Nocturnal enuresis and vulvo-vaginitis, pyelitis, cystitis urethritis.
In females, pain in left ovary at menstrual period; cystic ovaries; tubal infections (tubercular or gonococcal); profuse leucorrhoea, yellowish, foetid, corrosive; pruritis vulvae.
Differential Diagnosis:
Dr. William Briggs feels that the mentals of Gaertner-co, another bowel nosodes, are almost identical to sycotic-co. The element of fear is outstanding but additional factor in Sycotic-co is irritation which is exhibited in temper tantrums. While the Gaertner child is thin and undernourished, the Sycotic-co child is often fat and flabby.
CASE 1: A boy of 5 years suffered form catarrhal bronchitis. he had a loose rattling and croupy cough. His nose was full of mucus. Hepar-sulph was prescribed with no result in three weeks. It was observed that he wet the bed every night and stood by the window to dry his body. He was prescribed Sycotic-co and in 2 weeks the catarrhal symptoms disappeared and in two months the enuresis ceased. (Dr. William Briggs).
CASE 2:
A girl aged 5 years, had convulsion seizures similar to epilepsy. The characteristic symptom was a violent temper tantrum before a seizure. This persisted for one year and did not respond to other well chosen remedies. After prescribing Sycotic-co, over two months, the temper tantrums ceased and after four months, she had only an occasional seizure. She was free from epileptic seizure after eight months. (Dr. William Briggs).
