Case 1
Master S aged 1 year had a history of injury on the toe treated with antibiotics and analgesics. The patient subsequently developed pyrexia, albuminuria (3+) with ascites and was later diagnosed as having Nephrotic Syndrome.
Investigations: done on 29/ 8/94 showed the following
- X-ray chest - Mild degree of cardiomegaly
Right lung haziness
Patchy pneumonitis - right medial basal segment - Serum Urea - 31 mg m / dl
- Serum Cholesterol - 385 mg m / dl
- Urine Albumin - +++
Physical Examination:
Puffiness of face with baggy eye-lids, waxy pallor. There was evidence of ascites.
Diagnosis:
I diagnosed the condition as Drug induced (toxic) Nephrotic Syndrome due to inadvertent use of antibiotics and other allopathic drugs.
Treatment:
Arsenic-alb 200 one dose was given on 29/8/94 and SL for seven days. A week later (on 5/9/94) when I saw the patient, the distension had markedly reduced and the attendants said that the urinary output had enormously increased. The case is still under observation.
Case 2
Mr. X aged 25, a student of Engineering studying at Pilani a desert region of Rajasthan and a native of Warangal district AP had an attack of intermittent fever. Blood smear for MP was positive and hence the patient was put on Lariago at his institute. The temperature subsided but later he developed an asthenia like state with pain in abdomen radiating to back. subsequently he developed haematuria.
Radiologically there was no evidence of any renal calculi. Haematuria was present with no apparent reason. He went back to his native village and took allopathic treatment without result. So he switched over to homoeopathy.
Treatment:
He was given a dose of Terebinth 200. Amazingly haematuria disappeared followed by rapid improvement in his general condition. In this connection, I would like to make a special mention that Terebinth is one of the prophylactic remedy for intermittent fevers and African fevers (desert fevers) vide Allens Keynotes.
