NATIONAL HOMOEOPATHIC CONFERENCE- 1994, was organised by the Karnataka Qualified Homoeopathic Doctors Association and was sponsored by the Asian Homoeopathic Medical League at the Holiday Inn on 16th and 17th April 1994. Over 350 delegates from all over India registered for the conference which was inaugurated by the Special Commissioner of Police, Mr. H. T. Sangliana, Dr. Bhatnagar, Bangalore and Dr. Tiwari from Fr. Mullers Hospital, Mangalore emphasised the role of nosodes as an indicated remedy, an intercurrent, antimiasmatic, as a constitutional and on its empirical use. The treatment and management of Psoriasis under Homoeopathic treatment was discussed at length by Dr. Ravindra Gudivada, Dr. Gune from Kolhapur and Dr. Ramesh Jain of Bombay. Dr. B. S. Manjunath of Bangalore, enlightened the delegates on the use of Computers in Homoeopathy. On the second day, the common use of uncommon remedies and uncommon use of common remedies was discussed through presentation of various cases treated by Dr. B.D. Patel of Bangalore, Dr. Girish Gupta of Lucknow, Dr. Sanjay Krishnan of Bareilley. Dr. Shri Hari of Hyderabad presented his case studies collected over the last 3 years of his work with oncologists in cases of cancer, being treatment homoeopathically along with the usual allopathic course. It was extremely interesting to observe the beneficial effects of medicines like Ipecac, Amygdallus-a, Crotalus, Zingiber and Phosphorus.
One of the most liveliest of the session was on potency selection. Dr. Matani of Bombay presented cases on the remedial effects of carefully selected medicine in the right potency. Dr. Parimal Banerjee of Calcutta dwelt at length on his clinical research and trials to identify the optimum effect of a remedy in a particular potency and how the carefully selected correct remedy may not give the desired results when given in wrong potencies. The grand old man of Homoeopathy, Dr. S.P. Koppikar of Madras ran through his mental encyclopedia to emphasize the selection of the proper potency.
Senior Homoeopath, Dr. A. U. Ramkrishna of Madras, along with Dr. Jayaram and Dr. Shripad Hegde of Bangalore discussed and deliberated on the treatment of Arthritis. An interesting open session concluded this educated and enjoyable conference.
The NATIONAL HOMOEOPATHIC QUIZ- 1994, was held at the Taj Residency on the 19th and 20th of March 1994. A seminar inaugurated by Shri S. P. Majumdar, Honble Chief Justice Karnataka. Over 150 *delegates participated. Dr. Mahendra Singh of Calcutta spoke at length on the life and works of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. Senior Homoeopaths also spoke on the subject of Miasms. Dr. S.P.S. Bakshi presented an audiovisual paper on allergies. He likened allergies to psora. Dr. K.P. Majumdar from Bombay spoke on the constitution, temperament and the recent researches in Clinical Homoeopathy. After the seminar the semifinals and the finals of the Homoeopathic quiz was held. Students from Homoeopathic Medical colleges of Calcutta, Midnapore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Beed in Maharashtra took part. Quizzing in Homoeopathic history and development, basic and allied medical sciences, visual round, buzzer round (homoeopathy) and rapid fire round created a spectacular and exciting event. Students from Hyderabad won the first prize, a cup and Rs. 5000, whilst Bangalore won a cup and Rs. 300 as runners up. The two losing semifinalist teams were awarded consolation prizes of Rs. 500 each. The national Homoeopathic Quiz was telecast on the National Network (television) of Doordarshan on Sundays 10th, 17th and 24th April. The seminar was very well arranged by the Homoeopathic Association of India, Karnataka state branch under the able guidance of Dr. D. Seshachalam and his team.
