Our Materia Medica makes every one of us a specialist in every disease, unlike the Allopathic Specialist, whose knowledge is circumscribed within certain limits only. Homoeopathic Materia Medica commands our special attention as there is a hidden treasure in the innumerable lesser known remedies. These have not been thoroughly investigated but still in many cases they prove of inestimable value. We are much more likely to think of the well proved remedies, the so-called polycrests of our Materia Medica such as Sulphur, Calcarea, Lycopodium. Pulsatilla, Aconite, Belladonna, Bryonia, etc., in every case of disease that presents itself for treatment, and we very often do not even think of these innumerable lesser known remedies which have been incorporated in our Materia Medica. To-day I commend some of these to your attention.

Acalypha-indica - It is a unique remedy for haemorrhages when its peculiar symptoms present themselves in a case. All pathological haemorrhages have a markedly morning aggravation, e.g. rectal haemorrhage, pulmonary haemorrhage, etc. For pulmonary tuberculosis it is a well-tried remedy and I remember that two of my cases of incipient phthisis were cured by this drug. I prescribed it in the 6th potency in both these cases, and was led to its exhibition by these symptoms, viz, dry, hard, racking cough, bloody expectoration; all symptoms worse in the morning including weakness.

Aceta spicata-Actea racemosa all of us know and prescribe. But how many of us use Actea-spicata? From experience I known it is a valuable remedy in rheumatism, especially of the small joints. The pains are worse from touch and motion. A case of wrist rheumatism which defied every treatment was cured by me with this drug in a short while. Most people are likely to think of Bryonia where Actea spicata ought to be the prescription.

Aethiops-antimonilis: Remember it in scrofulous, scabby eruptions, oozing foetid pus with glandular swellings. Here use it especially when you have a reasonable doubt of hereditary syphilis.

Amygdalis-persica: Constant nausea and vomiting is a condition for which this remedy is remarkable. When in such a case Ipecacuanha and other well-known remedies selected according to symptoms fail to produce any result, give it; it will not disappoint you. It must be given in five drop doses of the mother tincture. In a case of "vomiting of pregnancy" where abortion seems inevitable on account of excessive nausea and vomiting, do not fail to give this remedy a chance.

Castor-equi: It has proved to be a highly useful remedy in my hands as well as those of others in cracked and ulcerated nipples; the nipples are very sore and tender and pain when the child sucks. It has helped many a nursing mother who has suffered from this complaint without any other constitutional symptoms.

Chenopodium-glauci: When there is a fixed pain under inner lower angle of the right shoulder blade, one knows how Chelidonium majus helps, but when there are severe pains in the region of lower inner angle of left shoulder blade, running into chest, remember Chenopodium glauci.

Epigea repens: In acute cystitis when there is burning during urination with great tenesmus in the bladder, Cantharis is a well-tried remedy and often helps but when it does not help, especially in chronic cases, prescribe Epigea repens. There is mucus and pus in the urine and also a sandlike substance of brown colour. Tenesmus is especially worse after urination.

Ficus-religiosa: In haemorrhages from any orifice of the body remember this drug. The blood is bright red, lacking the restlessness which would make it an Aconite case and lacking the nausea which would make it an Ipecacuanha case. In the case of vomiting of bright red blood from stomach, where every other remedy prescribed failed, the first dose of this remedy gave the desired effect.

Fucus-vesiculosus: This remedy is to be remembered in thyroid enlargement in fat people, especially when there are no other symptoms to guide for the selection of another remedy. It has cured a number of cases of thyroid enlargement, when prescribed in mother tincture.

Liatris-spicata: Its action in some cases of dropsy due to the derangement of liver, spleen or kidneys must be seen to be believed. Here, under its curative action the suppressed or scanty urine increases to enormous proportions and carries away the dropsical fluid with it. In some case, however, it proves utterly useless. I have not able so far to define its exact indicating symptoms so that no mistake may be made in unnecessarily prescribing it.

Myristica-sebifera: It has a marked action on inflammed tissues and acts like Hepar or Silica, but more powerfully. It has a specific action on panaritium.

Naphthaline: In children suffering from whooping cough sometimes there are no guiding symptoms to lead to a definite prescription. In such cases Naphthaline comes to our rescue and often cures the case. Use it in 1x trituration, three or four times a day.

Nuphar-luteum: In sexual weakness with spermatorrhoea we more often think of Phosphoric acid than anything else, but here is a valuable remedy in this complaint when it is too far gone. The parts are relaxed and there is complete absence of sexual desire. Involuntary emission of semen occurs while passing stool and urine.

Pix-liquida: A useful remedy in bronchitis when its peculiar symptoms are present. Pain at a spot about the third left costal cartilage where it joins the rib, is its red line symptom. The expectoration is muco-purulent and is offensive in smell and taste.

Many cases of maltreated influenza will not run into consumption by the timely use of this remedy but its characteristic pain must be present to indicate it.
The few remedies, spoken above, were taken at random and one could go on writing on such remedies as there are many more in our Materia Medica, but that would have made this address unduly long.

Leaving the subject of the lesser known remedies here, I now come to another subject which deals with treatment of the patients by their own SECRETIONS. I have adopted this line of treatment in a number of cases in the past few years, where other seemingly indicated remedies failed to have any effect and where, in my judgment, I have reasonable prospects of curing the case by following this line of treatment. I will here narrate, a few cases successfully treated by this method.

Case 1
Mr. A, aged 28 years, married seven years, suffered from nightly seminal emissions. Mrs. A, aged 26 years, suffered from profuse leucorrhoeal discharge. No child was born through this union during seven long years, in spite of the operative treatment and numerous injections taken by Mrs. A, I potentized the seminal discharge of Mr. A to the 200th potency and gave him one dose of this. Similarly the leucorrhoeal discharge of Mrs. A was potentized to the 200th potency and one dose of this was given to Mrs. A. The complaints of both the husband and wife were relieved in fifteen days and after three months Mrs. A became pregnant. General health of both the patients improved steadily and Mrs. A gave birth to a healthy child in due course of time.

Case 2:
Mr. R, aged 26, Mrs. R aged 24. married seven years. No child was born to this couple. The doctors said that Mrs. R had an infantile uterus and no pregnancy could ever take place. She also had a hard, movable tumours in her breasts. I gave her Sulphur and Thuja without any effect. After that the above described treatment was given to both of them, one dose only. Pregnancy occurred in five months. Tumours of the breasts disappeared slowly but completely. After the full term Mrs. R delivered a girl, who was weak and rickety. She was also given one dose of the same remedy which her father had received. The girl began to improve after this dose and put on flesh. She continues under my treatment. Mr. R had symptoms strongly suggestive of hereditary syphilis.

Case 3
Mrs. P aged 34, suffered from tuberculosis of the intestines after the delivery of her third child. Persistent pain in the intestines and bladder was present. Stools loose; temperature varying from 102° F to 103° F. A specimen of her stool was potentized to the 200th potency and one dose was given to her every month for four months. Improvement occurred in fifteen days time so that she could retain her diet. Diarrhoea and vomiting stopped. Pain abated. She put on weight very rapidly and was restored to perfect health in four months.

Case 4
Mr. J, aged 28, suffered from tuberculosis of the lungs for about one year. X-ray showed cavities in the apices of both the lungs. He coughed blood and the temperature remained around 104° F. I potentized his expectoration to the 30th potency and gave him one dose of it. After one week the pain in both the lungs was markedly increased as well as the haemoptysis. At this time I gave him one dose of 200th of the same substance. The patient improved remarkably after this dose. Blood stopped within three days. In three months the cavities in the lungs had healed and the patient gained 22 pounds of weight. It is now seven months and he keeps perfectly well.

Case 5
Mrs. H, aged 78, had cancer of the pylorus. The cancer hospital at Bombay declared the case incurable and did not even admit the case in the hospital. Pain was present in the epigastric region for all the 24 hours and a distinct mass could be felt in that region. Liver was enlarged. First I gave one dose of Ornithogalum 200. Vomiting of blood took place and the pain was increased. Swelling of the feet came on and cold perspiration all over the body every four hours, stopped the perspirations. Pain continued unabated. At this stage I potentized her saliva to the 30th potency and gave her one dose. In eight days the patient was able to retain liquid diet. Then one dose of the 200th potency of the same substance was given. Within a months time the pain disappeared and the growth also could not be felt. Only burning during urination was present. General health improved. The patient continues under my treatment.

Case 6
Miss M, aged 18 years. She suffered from psoriasis since she was eleven years of age. I took her blood and potentized it to the 200th potency, two doses of which had been given to her at an interval of a month. Psoriasis has disappeared. Previous to this, she had both homoeopathic and allopathic treatments which failed to have the least effect.

In this connection, gentlemen, I must impress an important point upon you. Since no facility exists to-day to carry out organized research work in Homoeopathy, every true homoeopath should become a research scholar in his own dispensary and clinic, and keep a full record of his work and publish it as soon as he is satisfied with the results obtained by him. Our research should specially be directed towards finding out antidotes for every new poisonous drug discovered by the allopathic school.
