Thrombocytopenic Purpura

I had a few experiences with rare remedies in my practice. I illustrate 2 cases here.
Case 1:
I was requested to see a girl of 14 years admitted in one of the most
reputed institutions. She was suffering with "Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic
Purpura" and was given cortisones and packed cells thrice already. When she was
admitted, she had a history of menorrhagia, bleeding per rectum off and on and severe
epistaxis on exposure to sun and dust, ankle oedema, exertional dyspnoea, and profound
weakness. Her lab reports revealed that she had Haemoglobin 6 gm percent, platelet count
40,000 / cu mm and clotting time 2 min. After each transfusion of platelets the
thrombocytes count used to rise by few thousands but would again fall back. I gave her Sanguisuga 200, daily 2 doses for 3 days. Before giving this remedy
the platelet count was 60,000 / cu mm. After giving the medicine on 4th day morning the
count rose to 10,000 / cu mm. Sanguisuga is prepared from
Leech and is very good medicine for haemorrhages. For ITP, Sanguisuga
and Crot-hor stand ahead of all the others.
Unfortunately, in the above case, inspite of a very good response splenectomy was done stating that the recovery was only a temporary phenomenon.
Case 2
A doctor in one the premier institutes was finding it difficult to operate
as he developed tremors of the hands. He clearly attributed it to the bronchodilators and
other drugs he was using for his respiratory allergy. I gave him several drugs like Ars, Ars-iod, Ipec, Carbo-veg, Nux-vom, etc. but to no permanent
relief. He had to climb many stairs in his hospital which was a herculean task for him. He
was having a burning in chest, throat, choking sensation in the throat and lungs, and
dyspnoea with cough. I suddenly got the idea of a poison-weed which used to give prompt
relief to my close friend and classmate always suffering with "Allergic
Pharyngitis". I took out one dose of this poison-weed 200 (Wyethia)
and gave it to him. Within 48 hours he had much relief and since then he has not only used
only homoeopathic medicines for his entire family but also suggests to many.
