Nux Hurried and Worried, Till he is Buried
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1993 May / Jun Vol II No 3.
Dr Sarla Sonawala.
` Nux-v.

Once upon a time
Sitting idly at seashore, humming gleefully
Was a man with not a care in the world
"Why dont you work?" Busybee quipped
"What for?" - queried the man"
"To make money" - "What for?"
"To have luxuries and comforts"
"What for?" - insisted the man
"To enjoy life" - persisted Busybee
"Ah, that is what I am doing right now".

Doesn't Busybee belong to the zealous tribe
Of highly civilized refined urban clan
Named "Nux Vomica" in homoeopathic parlance?
Architects of modern civilization at its peak
Skyscrapers, neon lights, fleeting cars, crowded bazaars
Even skies invaded by jet planes jumbos
Caught up in a whirlwind - wild and fast
In a mad, mad, mad world.

Telephones ring - two at a time, urgent calls
Rigmarole of meetings and clockwise appointments
Conferences committees conspiracies conflicts
Man earns to spend and spends to earn
More.. still more.. not enough.. still better
Seems to be the motto in the name of progress
Makes millions, billions, unsatiated trillions
To turn into a mere machine for minting money.

Ardent, zestful, tidy over trifles, not a detail missed
Executive wizards to see thro big projects
Lawyers, accountants, students - with ambitions high
Nux belongs to intellectual elite of insolent kind
"Tension" is the word of mind as well as muscle
Temper tantrums that kick a row and fling a file
Curse and swear at contradiction least
Such contentious contrariness is cussedness pure.

Habits sedentary, love for highly seasoned food
Born epicurean, he selects best, but digests none
Hangover of choicest whisky and wine
Release in nilly-willy dalliance with dames
All these end in irritation - of tummy and temper
Reversal of peristalsis, fitful colonic spasms
Liver - the largest manufacturer of vital nutrients
Falls a prey to indiscreet deeds of mindless man

Man when strives to rise beyond his "liver"
To land on moon and touch the twinkling stars
Bitter and battered, he is hurled down to Earth
As cream rises till it turns sour
So man rises to his level of incompetence
If Peter Principle so perceives mans rise and fall
Nux narrates the nagging tale of the mortal man
Who is hurried and worried till he is buried.
