Magnesia-carbonica - Simulates A 'Jail'?
NATIONAL JOURNAL OF HOMOEOPATHY 1993 Jul / Aug Vol II No 4.
Dr Markhand Bhatt.
` Mag-c

The symptomatology of Magnesia-Carbonica can be likened to the atmosphere of a Jail.

  1. A jail is where there is darkness. Similarly in Mag-carb symptomatology the discharges, especially the menstrual flow, is dark. The convict has to live in the dark and wants to go out in the open air. Similarly the complaints of Mag-carb patients are also aggravated in the dark, at night and are better in open air.
  2. Normally convicts in a jail are served only potatoes and milk everyday and so they are fed up of eating the same thing over and over again. Similarly Mag-carb has troubles which increase after eating potatoes and drinking milk. Fruits, vegetables and meat are not served to the convicts and they obviously crave for these things; which are also the cravings of Mag-carb.
  3. Malnutrition, living without proper ventilation combined with an atmosphere of fear, leads to a disturbance of the process of assimilation, which in turn results in a pale and anaemic face. The Mag-carb patients face is pale and waxy as if egg white has dried on it.
  4. The movements are restricted in a jail, so convicts feel better when they walk or move about. The Mag-carb patient feels better by motion and at times, no sooner does he stop motion, than the complaints start.
  5. Whenever there is no movement, there comes a stage of stagnation. Stagnation causes green scum which is exactly the colour of stools of a Mag-carb patient.
  6. A convict has constant fear and anxiety. Anxiety and fears are expressed in the delusions and dreams of a Mag-carb patient like Fear, as if some accident would happen. Delusion, sees dead persons Delusion, counting money Delusion, he would be murdered. Delusion, something would happen Fear of insanity.
  7. In a jail the convict is punished at the slightest pretext - beaten, stamped with shoes or dragged by the hair. Mag carb is a useful remedy in complaints after blows and shock. The patient describes headaches as if the hair is being pulled.
  8. All these adverse conditions have a detrimental effect on general health. As a result, many convicts in a jail suffer from Tuberculosis and other diseases. The diathesis of a Mag-carb patient is Tubercular and he may be an offspring of tubercular parentage.
  9. The atmosphere of a jail is not wanted by anyone. Unwanted children are often Mag-carbs.
Other important Mag-carb symptoms:
  1. Sourness - stool, vomit, perspiration, taste, acidity.
  2. It is useful in many conditions like corneal opacity, sudden deafness and pain in erupting wisdom tooth.
Comparison:
  1. Better in open air - Acon Alum, Sabina
  2. Nosebleed while washing face - Amm-carb
  3. Menses mostly during night time - Bovista
  4. Sourness of stool - Calc-carb, Hepar-s, Rheum
  5. Menses difficult to wash - Medorrhinum.
  6. Rheumatism of right shoulder if Sanguinaria fails.
